  1. I think people who are feeling distressed about this should take a deep breath, and maybe go to the quiet room for a while.
  2. I know you didn't say it, someone else did. I doubt he would like to. I have no doubt the premier gets top legal advice.
  3. Hyperbole is coming from both sides. "Doug Ford is running a dictatorship."
  4. Now that's what I call perfect symmetry. Modern politics has been distilled down to the simplest of choices- pick your preferred dictator!
  5. Will be interesting to see what kind of welcome he gets when he's out.
  6. It's all about opinions. The judge gave an opinion, and it is being questioned by many who have deeper knowledge of the interpretation of the charter. No one has come out to say that Doug Ford is out of line, or that what he's doing is illegal. Even the PM hasn't said much, other than how disappointed he is about frivolous use of the notwithstanding clause. I'm sure they're all consulting with law experts right now and looking for alternatives. We shall see. Aside from the legal aspects involving the charter, the overall initiative to reduce government bloat sits well with many Ontarians. Many Torontonians have voiced support for the change, including councillors themselves, which tells me that the principle for making this change is justified. I watched CTV tonight and they interviewed people in the streets to ask what they think. Not a one had anything bad to say about the idea of reducing the size of city council. I was a little surprised at that. I thought I would hear a lot worse. ETA- I disagree that is the reason. Has that idea ever been tabled for serious discussion in Toronto? If not, why not. I say with the current system in city hall, they could never pass a change like that. The councillors would oppose it... there is the real issue.
  7. She also pushed through the sex ed agenda, other things. Those are what made people turn towards Ford. Actually I believe they would have elected whomever was the leader of the PC party. I couldn't care less what you have defended. I am talking about these issues, not you. I 'm no partisan, and you are welcome to ignore me. I don't particularly like the way Ford was elected. At the time of the election I posted that the election of Doug Ford was an example of stupidity of the electorate.
  8. We have had government by decree for a while now. Maybe it didn't bother you because you liked those decrees. Many however did not, hence we now have Doug Ford. CTV article shows that many people who know these laws quite well disagree with the judge's decision. Legal scholars surprised by judge's reasoning in Toronto council cuts decision
  9. I gave the example from someone who makes it very clear.
  10. Many feel that he is right, at least in principle. Not trying to "f*ck over the largest city in the Country". It is doing that already.
  11. Go get 'em, DoFo!

Why bother with an elected government when activist judges can do the job

  12. Gonna be long, cold, hungry winter without that US produce.
  13. Are zombies allowed as supreme court judges?
  14. Shut up, Serena.

She says she's fighting for women!   Waaaaaaah.  She thinks the rules doesn't apply to her.

I felt sorry for the Japanese young lady - Serena took the spotlight from her.

Lol, Serena will be remembered for this drama.

  15. Back to mine, which it seems you misunderstood. How would protests from a 20% (minority) continue to grow? I mean, if the opposing view is held by 4 times as many people. If the majority has the political power, all they need to do is work within the system.
  16. Sometimes small groups of protesters shout loudly, acting as though they are the voice of the majority.
  17. The Canadian government was naive to believe it would turn out otherwise. As though Mexico would say no to a good deal with the USA, because they care so much about Canada.
  18. cutting off nose to spite face
  19. How so, if it's what 80% of Canadians want? Because the other 20% are louder?
  20. This annoys me greatly. I want to know more about what's happening in Canadian politics, but can't find it. Instead all I get to hear is opinion panels talking about all the most absurd minutia, about some other country's president. I suspect avoiding talking about Trudeau is by design. There is nothing.
  21. I have said neither, but I do not doubt there are Marxist sympathizers among us. Why would anyone think that Trump is a communist, or wants to give support to China? For that matter, why believe he wants to disband NATO? According to NATO president Jens Stoltenberg, Trump's work has helped to make NATO stronger.
  22. We have a PM who shouts anybody down if they dare to give a different view than his, calling them racist. That would be the media response, Jacob Rees Mogg or no. Just look at Bernier. ETA- maybe that's why they DON'T speak up very much, they know what would happen. I certainly can never discuss my personal views at work, or even around most of my family. Because they are being totally brainwashed. There is no way I could explain it to them, I'd be labelled just another racist old man.
  23. Only commies are thinking about it... and sending their spokesmen to preach it.
  24. Anyone who dares to stand up to it will be immediately and completely vilified. Only a person with great determination and a very thick skin could withstand the attack. Only someone who's a rude boor... who doesn't give a heck if what they say is offensive to anyone.
  25. Actually what you are saying is exactly what I've said. I see nothing to disagree with. What I said is they were initially perceived as being anti-progressives in principle, re-open old debates etc. but in fact what's happened is quite the opposite. Yes, they are drifting more towards the 'left' if we need to call it that. Therefore we now have Bernier. Depending on how he positions himself, he might just get some significant support. Well, that's based on what I'm hearing from people around me, who generally aren't the most political types. To put it simply, people are getting fed up with what we now have. Given the previous set of options, we could only go from horrible to terrible, to fucking scary. Now there'sa possible 4th option. Maybe we should be saying thank you, Maxime!
