We have inefficient transit because we are and have been a car culture. Tokyo, density is absurdly higher than anywhere in Canada. And they built their system right after the US gave them everything after WWII. Hong Kong is even higher density in a area smaller than GTA. NYC has been building their system for well over 100 years to get where they are now. London same as NYC, over 100 years and still building. No sense to buy a car because there is no place to park in any of those places LOL Nothing "woke" about it. Our municipalities and the people that live in them would rather drive than take transit and not that it cost an absurd amount, it is less palatable. Comparing to cities that have had this for over 100 years is stupid.3 points

North American public transit is deficient because of wokeness? What can't you people bogeyman with that? 🤣3 points

The hypotheticals have to be plausible. If you want to propose that Trump might say he is going to turn into Godzilla and eat nuclear reactors while he stomps on large cities... are we supposed to be worried that will actually happen and spend time worrying about the consequences?2 points

ANTI-FA is the most fascist organization in the country. They use violence and threats of violence to promote their agenda. They demonize, belittle and attack anyone that dares have a different opinion. They consider everyone that isn't on board with their agenda to be enemies, calling them traitors to invoke a sense of nationalism. ANTI-FA is the most fascist organization in the country. Maybe even in the world. They don't have the original tenet of "right-wing ideology", but they embrace all the tactics. In many respects, they are very much like Mussolini.2 points

Just in case people here are starting to forget just how much support there is for Hamas in Canada, this article is from Oct 9th, talking about pro-Hamas rallies from the day before. The day before was actually the very first evening since the Palestinian terrorist attack. At that time, there was still smoke coming off of the babies who were burned to death. Palestinian terrorists were still sharing those videos with their proud parents, and putting them on social media. No one was buried yet. The death toll was still coming in. Israeli officials were still sorting out the dead bodies to figure out who was missing. https://kitchener.citynews.ca/2023/10/09/toronto-police-boost-presence-ahead-of-israel-palestine-rallies-warn-against-hate/ Protesters gathered at Nathan Phillips Square in front of Toronto City Hall on Monday afternoon, many draped in or waving Palestinian flags as the crowd chanted, “From the river to the sea" One sign read, “Occupation is a crime, resistance is a response.” Let's not pretend that it wasn't a 'Palestinian' terrorist attack on Oct 7th... Hamas is the government in Gaza. The 'Hamas' attacks are truthfully Palestinian attacks. Palestinians aren't condemning those attacks, or trying to stop them. They're out spitting on the naked corpses with their kids. When the US gov't goes into Iraq it's not "The Democrats" or "Republicans" at war, it's America. Clinton, Obama, Trump, and Biden don't launch attacks, nor do their parties... America does. Similarly, support for those wars at that time isn't for the Dems or GOP, it's for America, and support for what the Palestinians are doing is support for Hamas.1 point

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/doctors-retirement-capital-gains-1.7181885 Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is rejecting a call from some doctors for his government to reconsider its planned capital gains tax hike. The doctors warn that the tax change could undermine efforts to recruit and retain physicians in Canada and threaten the stability of the health-care system. Canada is facing a severe doctor shortage. An estimated 6.5 million Canadians are going without access to primary care as family physicians retire en masse and medical schools struggle to recruit new residents to replace them. Driving doctors out of canada - that's probably a winning election strategy. 🙄 It's like he's not even pretending to be on Canada's side any more.1 point

Gaza was free. The Israeli gov't completely pulled out of there over a decade ago and left them to be 100% autonomous, but with free electricity. The Gazans spent all that time making Gaza beautiful, and creating prosperity for their people. 😂 J/K, they spent all their time and money getting weapons and rockets, plotting genocide, and then tried to overwhelm the Iron Dome with 15,000 bombs. Hezbollah was supposed to launch some of their 150,000 rockets at the same time but thought better of it.1 point

Um, no. They already had a 2 state solution. The Arab world, including the Palestinians at the time, rejected that and went to war against Israel. As part of that war... Israel certainly did expel some Palestinians... it was war. They lost. If you don't want to suffer the consequences of losing a war... don't start a war.1 point

I have a friend in the US who, for many years, has been very 'Free Palestine". I have always kind of avoided any discussion with her on the topic because in her view Israel = evil, Palestine = 100% innocent angels. And I've always suspected the truth lies somewhere in between there. The question for me is "What does 'Free Palestine' mean to the government and people of Palestine?" These demonstrations and rallies in Canada and the US, in my opinion, show that to Palestinians - it means the eradication of Israel as a state and the killing of Jews worldwide. I am upset to see these ones openly chanting about killing Jews and watching gov't and authorities do next to nothing about it. In Canada.1 point

This is hilarious. And unlike Colorado and other Nazi states trying to overturn the Constitution, this is a matter of incompetence on the part of the DemoNazi party. (These rubes come closer and closer every day to resembling the Germans in Hogan's Heroes.) https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-missing-ohios-general-election-ballot-due-key-deadline-issue-election-official-warns Biden may be missing from Ohio’s general election ballot due to key deadline issue, election official warns President Biden may fail to get on Ohio's general election ballot after the state's top election official warned his campaign about missing a key deadline on Friday. Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, a Republican, notified top Democratic officials that their party's national convention is scheduled to occur well past the deadline for certifying a presidential candidate in Ohio. "The Democratic National Convention is scheduled to convene on August 19, 2024, which occurs more than a week after the August 7 deadline to certify a presidential candidate to the office," LaRose wrote to Ohio Democratic Party Chairwoman Liz Walters, according to the letter first obtained by ABC News. The Nazi courts of Colorado tried to illegally prevent LEGALLY ELECTED PRESIDENT TRUMP from being on Colorado's ballot, based on an ACCUSATION of ordering an insurrection (which never took place at all.) The United STates Supreme Court smacked down those FASCISTS. And it looks like the Dumbasses from the DemoNazi National Committee might be losing out on Ohio's Electoral votes because they didn't file in time. Of course, LEGALLY ELECTED PRESIDENT TRUMP would probably take that state in a landslide anyway, but I think it's funny as hell.1 point

The thought actually did occur to me as i wrote that. Most (not all) of what today's conservatives believe actually was the heart of what used to be "liberal" beliefs 100 and even 50 years ago. Individual freedoms, freedom to choose your own way and not be forced to societal norms, no 'class' society (nowadays called intersectionalism), "all people being treated eqaually under the law", etc. All of that is opposed by the left and the so-called 'liberals' now. Liberalism has become socialism, which is the opposite of being 'liberal'. But the line you quoted referred to conservatives, and by and large it wasn't conservatives who were interested in compelling people to take the jab by force.1 point

We saw some movement in early january and trump took the lead by a nose (but - like a fairly big nose. An "italian" lead if you will), but since then the polls have been largely stagnant - they just bounce around a bit within their margin of error as you'd expect but there's no real movement. In elections there tends to be specific points where the undecided or 'soft' votes tend to move one way or another, and they tend to be fairly stable in between. The first week or so of an election, right after debates, the last 4 days etc. I think right now we've just gone through the 'pre-eleciton' phase and barring something significant happen we're probably not going to see a lot of motion between now and the start of the election, where people start paying attention again. Maybe at the nominations where there's a little media coverage of the 'official' candidates. But obviously the start of the race is going to see trump with a slight advantage over biden. The campaign will decide who wins in the end tho, campaigns always matter but this time more than usual i'd think.1 point

Of course it is our business and even more of NATO's. The entire point behind NATO was forming a strategic alliance in opposition to the expansion from the Soviet Union and that threat did not die with its collapse... because here is Russia still expanding. There is also some convoluted history to our support of Ukraine when they gained their independence from the Soviet Union. They took a lot of Nuclear weapons with them and voluntarily disarmed in coordination and agreement with Western nations. The US has an interest in promoting peace and stability in the world to some extent, including opposing continued Russian aggression.1 point

We all know what Joe's handlers are attempting to do to President Trump. They even promoted a man that is well known for his ability to attack politicians WASHINGTON — A unanimous Supreme Court on Monday overturned the bribery conviction of former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell in a ruling that could make it harder for prosecutors to bring corruption cases against elected officials. Are they doing this to others? I think so. And this isn't limited to Trump or Republicans. June 2022 AOC refuses to endorse Biden for 2024 as Democrats doubt his ability to win And then in December 2022 Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is subject of House ethics investigation And suddenly in Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez supports Biden’s reelection bid What a coincidental turn around? But if it happened again that might mean something right? May 2023 [Mayor Eric Adams's] eagerness to point a finger at the White House has infuriated top Biden aides, who note the issue’s global complexity. Sept 2023 In Escalation, Adams Says Migrant Crisis ‘Will Destroy New York City’ And then in November FBI agents are executing a search warrant at the Crown Heights, Brooklyn, home of Brianna Suggs, who is a campaign consultant linked to the mayor. This law enforcement action may be the reason the mayor abruptly returned back to the city, although a spokesperson declined to comment. The , in December 2023, the come to Joe meeting: Eric Adams receives last-minute invite to White House during DC trip Remember when Matt Gaetz was accused during his campaign? The sex-trafficking investigation of Matt Gaetz, explained And then he was exonerated. Is Matt Gaetz Exonerated? What Happens to Sex-Trafficking Accusations Now And they are doing it again. I honestly don’t think anyone is going to pack up their family and relocate to foreign country because of a hypothetical additional tax they might incur decades in the future And unless they do so before June when the CG increases, they’re only to end up incurring the tax now instead of decades from now Besides doctors make a lot of money it’s not like selling their business is their only retirement option they have more opportunities to save and invest than the vast majority of society. They can invest in stocks and bonds and mutual funds like the rest of us plebes. Not to mention that in addition to their day job many also dabble in all these private healthcare rackets doing corporate and executive wellness programs and side-gig consulting for insurance companies etc. They’re not going to be retiring in poverty.1 point
-
To be honest - many are leaving already. This is another kick in the teeth. Doctors used to be paid as 'income' and letting them incorporate and sell their practices as retirement benfits as 'capital gains' and such was basically instead of giving them a raise. Now that's being taken away as well. And of course it's not just if they retire. If they move from one place to another they tend to sell practices as well. I mean, you can't say it's "no big deal it doesn't mean much" and then justify taking it away - if it's minor, then let them have it. And many countries pay their doctors better. The states for example pays much better than Canada does and it's fairly easy to transfer your certification. And it's within walking distance Don't try to put lipstick on the pig. This was a bad, bad idea.1 point

Lol. I didn't know whether you live under a rock, or what, but Trump by the time Trump left office a robust economy had become a dumpster fire and a howling mob of his supporters had just finished hunting Trump's vice President through the halls of the Capitol. "Disarray" was being generous. I don't think you have any economic knowledge or the ability to check historical data, you don't actually need the media to tell you anything. One can simply look at the data.1 point

It wouldn't, because underwriters use gross (pre-tax) income to qualify borrowers. That's true for both the lenders, and even more so for the insurers who underwrite high-ratio mortgages. It's kind of a non-choice. The math on this would be so bad that it'd be nothing but a latent tax trap that would keep lower income families perpetually poor. Unfortunately you're wrong. Lack of supply is definitely one of the biggest problems, but real-estate speculation has driven up prices dramatically as well. There was something like 1.3M vacant homes in Canada in 2022 - airbnbs, foreign students whose parents needed somewhere safe to park cash etc. 25 years ago, investment companies didn't play this game at all. Now, over 20% of purpose-built rentals are owned by large financial landlords (think REITs, fund companies etc) that make their money by turning over tenants any way they can and jacking the rents. No, but it will discourage speculative investing. I suspect we're going to see a lot of these airbnbs etc hit the market before the new rules take effect.1 point

The Republicans ALWAYS rack up bigger deficits than Democrats. ALWAYS. Biden’s spending on Taiwan and Ukraine is a pee in the toilet compared to the trillions Bush burned invading Iraq. And we don’t give these countries money. We give them military aid. It’s basically a credit card that lets them purchase American military products. So Raytheon gets the money, not these countries. And,like it or not, it gets those weapons tested.1 point
