I think you take this Messageboarding a little too seriously. It's like a thread criticizing your leader is a shot at your pride. CANADA IS AGAINST ME And before you say you don't care, may I point out that you're the one consistently bitching about how you think Canada is obsessed with your country. This is a thread about Trump.2 points

Punish us? Maybe we should just take some responsibility, the thing that conservatives claim they're all about. The Western industrialized world are the worst offenders on a per capita basis because of our consumer lifestyle. People in developing countries have a much smaller carbon footprint because most of them are so poor. We have two cars each, plenty of toys, warm homes, take vacations to foreign climes, eat (and waste) huge amounts of food. We can cut back; what can a semi-starving person with no vehicle, no stable housing and no toys do to cut back. We got ours, we created the problem with our industrialization and modern lifestyle, but now that its time to pay the piper you bunch whine about how it's not our problem, its them over there. If an "extinction event" is in our future, it should start with the self-entitled Westerner who blames everyone but themselves and refuses to lift a finger because, like a four-year-old, they're busy pointing at their younger brother and crying "but Johnny isn't helping, why should I". Maybe once they're gone, the rest of us will be able to accomplish something.2 points

It's all "fake news" (including the CBC)...didn't you know ? Trump did that too....won an election that way. Brilliant !2 points

You don't get that there is a difference between a church demanding standards of dress, and an immigrant bus driver who works for the state demanding local girls dress the way his home nation thinks is fitting for women?2 points

Which is also how I came to the conclusion that a couple extra bucks on a tank of gas wasn't any more inconvenient than bringing reusable bags and go-cups to grocery stores and coffee shops. No individual is killing the planet by taking a winter vacation or warming their homes in the winter. It's millions or billions of us doing so, without any thought or care about the impact of all of us - death by a billion cuts, so to speak. Perhaps the same number adjusting their habits by a little bit would mean life by a billion small changes. Like I said - research led me to believe this was one of the ways which can help. What is your reason for calling it garbage?1 point

Someone should mention to Trudeau that Scheer is the leader of the opposition, not Doug Ford. I guess the whole "Scheer is a white supremacist" narrative must not be reverberating the way he had hoped, have to find a new angle.1 point

As crappy as a wait time is. Many people in the USA simply die because they cannot afford any type of private insurance. Only idiots believe that. We pay for it via our taxes Only in America where owning a gun is a right, but not access to universal single payer health care.1 point

I clearly display my province of residence to the left. BC has a major problem with street drugs/property crime/gangs...not just in my city. Consider yourself lucky if you're unaffected. I think we need a new sheriff in town...a Trump, as it were. But...it looks like the gangsters in suits known as the NDP will be running the funny farm for the foreseeable future.1 point

The ER here is a junkie infested Hell hole that nobody in their right mind would go to unless the bleeding simply would not stop. Walk-in clinics...same deal...junkies and their ilk. As far as the eye can see. Junkie, junkie, junkie... Did I mention the drug problem? Junkies! But thank goodness for free health care. Anyways...back to all Trump all the time.1 point

Indeed...same as was done for Obama & Farrakhan, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Sleepy Joe, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, etc., etc. Suddenly it's bad because Trump is playing the same game....only better ?1 point

One car, got rid of the other one, take transit to/from work and save car for dog-related tasks and grocery shopping. Minimal meat, very little prepackaged foods or eating out. Flown out of country twice in 60+ years, and maybe 3 times in-country. Take bus to visit kids out of town, about 90% of my clothes are second hand. Recycle everything I can. I don't understand why you insist on going to extremes, btw. It's not a choice between having a mansion and 12 gas-guzzling trucks or shivering in a cave and hunting food with a spear while wearing a loincloth. It's making choices to consume less, daily, and being willing to pay a couple of bucks on a tank of gas because carbon taxes reduce carbon use. Its maybe deciding to get that electric vehicle next time you buy a new car, or deciding to let your lawn go brown during the summer. There are lots of choices people can make and one "green" choice tends to lead to more. Framing a bit of adjustment to reduce your personal carbon footprint as unendurable hardship that "won't do any good" is pointless and dishonest. I got many of my ideas from climate scientists who have made changes in their own life. Government is not a particularly good leader for this, imo, though I much prefer Canada's stance over Trump's.1 point

This forum is a small domain compared to the American content that is routinely consumed and regurgitated in Canadian media. Trump just dominates...so much so...Trudeau gets asked questions about...TRUMP ! I didn't even vote for Trump...he is a well known media huckster going back to the late 1970's. But he has used that power to not only become U.S. president, but to bait and hook people in other nations...again...and again...and again. Trump knows how to trigger them like no other. And they give him that power instead of just ignoring him. Even when they know exactly what Trump is doing, they sill get suckered in. Trump has already won...ten times over since 2015. Win or lose in 2020, he will always be the 45th President of the United States of America.1 point

You're still not getting it. This is a matter of a foreigner coming here, saying women here dress like sluts, and then refusing them service on a public bus unless they change their ways to be more in agreement with his people's culture. This is a fairly clear demonstration, in miniature, of what almost everyone opposing mass immigration is afraid of - foreigners wanting to change our culture and values to mirror theirs.1 point

No...my job is simple enough...point out the barbarity of the death cult known as Islam. With daily terrorist attacks and other similar contributions to humanity...from treating women as property to hating dogs & poets & Jews...Islam provides its own rope to hang itself in the court of decency. Islam...even a pig in lipstick is better than this cult started by a child molesting warlord.1 point

Trump knows he's over the top rhetorical, the world knows he's over the top rhetorical, there are no secrets in that regard when it comes to Trump. I look at that clip and I see someone who doesn't take his own rhetoric too seriously, and it's is obvious he could not possibly care less what other world leaders think of him. Unlike Obama, this isn't a popularity contest for him, it's about shaking up the status quo which he appears to be doing quite effectively. I do find it interesting that the laughter sounded like nervous laughter, until he let off the pressure.1 point

You're not going to save anything...and you can pretend I'm the problem rather than China or India with their filthy industries and ballooning populations. So what ? Obama benefited from Bush era policies too. That is the continuity of American presidents, and Donald Trump is a U.S. president, doubling down on tax cuts, more debt, and packing the Supreme Court. When will you learn that you cannot corral Trump with previous rules and boundaries ? All you do from Canada is feed Trump's fire with more oxygen, and he loves it ! Canada be like....we hated Bush...we really really did...but now we hate Trump even more. Why give them that kind of power in another nation ?1 point
-
But why does any American political figure have that kind of media attention and power in other nations ? Caring so much about what the world thinks is a Canadian value, not American. Trump has been very successful by any objective measure, doing it his way. Screw what the world thinks about it.1 point
-
How does any American candidate have that kind of power in Canada..love him or hate him ? WTF ? Trump (or Obama) didn't need the Canadian vote.1 point

I can buy whatever the hell I want in the U.S. Government socialists can't tell me how to consume health care on my dime. It ain't Canada ! Deductibles and co-pays are part of the insurance product....not government run welfare health care with really stupid long wait times for routine procedures.1 point

Racism is the new black....and not just on Netflix. Trump grabbed the media by the pu**y in 2016 and hasn't let go...he will continue to dominate media bandwidth with his very successful strategy. Even Canadian media obsesses on Trump. It's all Trump...all the time. Trump...Trump...Trump. Did I mention he is already President of the United States ?1 point

The entertaining feature about Trump is that he is like an elephant in a china-shop saying things which everyone knows are true but it is somehow considered inappropriate to say them aloud like the recent thing about Baltimore. Btw, years ago Bernie Sanders said about Baltimore that it is like a third world city. Now following Trump's comments he is along those condemning him. I wonder has Sanders become demented and he doesn't remember what he has said before.1 point

Lol. What's up with Buttgieg's so-called "moment" last night? You know, the one about his message to the Republicans when they've reached the twilight of their lives - what will they be remembered for? Whether you had the courage to stand up to Trump, or support his racist views? What's lost to Buttgieg is that not everyone think Trumps comments are racists! Only dishonest anti-Trumps and fake news media try to float that! How about you Democrats? When you've reached the twilight of your life, how will you be remembered? Someone who upheld the fundamental freedoms of DEMOCRACY (such as freedom of speech, etc.....), or will you be cursed for being a part that ripped Democracy to shreds, and instead helped firmly install socialism? Will you be a significant figure in the downfall of America? Lol, one thing we know for sure - this batch of Democrats 2019, will be remembered for being a bunch of scatterbrains who supported the moronic SQUAT! So, there!1 point

I pointed out that the sources they use in this article are disgruntled ex-employees and people who have no evidence he said what they say he said. It's all hearsay, and you have failed to address this point, instead pretending that because Politico used them as sources, they must be credible sources. Stop hiding behind the brand name publisher's credibility, and address the actual claims in the article relative to actual evidence presented. Appealing to authority is not a good argument, it's a logical fallacy.1 point
-
A successful attempt to change the conversation. Now it's all anyone is talking about.1 point
-
I did refute the piece, all of the people saying he said and did racist stuff have credibility issues as disgruntled ex-employees, and there is no evidence that he said or did anything that they said he did. You literally believe it only because it is telling you what you want to hear, so you are willing to grasp at straws like that article.1 point

Trump never said the large rat population is due to Baltimore's large black population. Bernie Sanders said worse things about Baltimore, saying West Baltimore was like a third world country, while his black supporters clapped behind him, and that's not racist. But pointing out Baltimore is infested with rats is somehow racist when PBS says the same thing? When HBO portrays Baltimore as a poorly run city in one of the greatest TV shows of all-time, that's not racist, but when Trump portrays Baltimore as being a poorly run city, it's racist? Puh-lease. Obvious double standard is obvious, it's only racist when the Bad Orange Man says it, Trump's tweets only seems racist to those who already thought he was a racist before he said it, and are looking to view his words through a racist lens. Anyone who isn't doing that can see as plain as day that those tweets weren't racist. If a black dem tweeted that part of Alabama that is infested with rats, is infested with rats, that's not racist at all, and it wouldn't be racist if he criticized a white republican who represented that part of Alabama either. None of that is racist, flip it around, and it's easy to see Trump wasn't being racist, so stop trying to twist everything Trump says into a racist screed. It is not racist to criticize black democrats, and it is not racist to criticize Baltimore either. It's not racist to criticize white republicans, and it's not racist to criticize majority white areas either.1 point
