  1. “Due to the Shutdown, I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan has been postponed. We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the Shutdown is over. In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate,” I understand they were standing at the gate waiting for a plane to pull up when this tweet arrived. Nicely done! And with full media exposure too.

  2. I'll tell you that without a doubt I know a lot more relationships where the wife/woman is calling the shots than the man, and it's not even close. Most men I know don't even see the money that they - or either of them earn. I see a vast majority of women driving the newer/safer vehicle while the man drives the older pick-up, I see women going out to sushi night with the girls way more often than any guy will go out for a hockey and beer night. Men nowadays have very little control over their own lives. I get that your father -in-law had his belief system, but believe me, that pretty much died out about 30 years ago for all but a tiny group of people. This isn't a Don Draper world and hasn't been for quite some time. I don't take issue with the message of the ad, I take issue with the presumptions that the ad reaches.

  3. I agree that the single most important thing about a Trump presidency is that it prevented another Clinton presidency. Everything else is just gravy. Impeachment is a political, not a criminal prosecution, and Trump cannot be impeached for actions before he took office. Articles of impeachment for actions that are clearly illegal (bribes, obstruction while in office) could bring Trump down, but even that is not a given. It is very difficult to remove a U.S. president by impeachment and conviction in the Senate....has never been done.

  5. Is that really what "manly men" means to you, someone who beats their woman? Wow! This is the caricature/stereotype that Gillette has put into their ad, and people are buying it up. I work in a predominately male oriented industry, I know many many men and I don't know any wife beaters, nor do I know any man who would be accepting of a wife beater. I'm sure it happens, but I think it's pretty rare. I actually know more men who are afraid of their wives than anything else. I know that those "yo, baby" dudes get laughed at by us regular guys. I know very very few men will allow their son to bully another person. This ad shows the behaviour of about 1% of the men in the western world. P.S - I've been in a number of street fights and I'll be honest when I say that at least 50% were directly caused by women getting in some guys face..."Ummm, can you cool it dear, I'm the one that'll have to go outside with guy - not you". Yeah, that's how many fights happen.

  7. I think we missed an excellent chance to buff up Mexico's economy at China's expense by not including language in the trade pact which gave particularly tax breaks to companies which located to Mexico from China. Mexico has lower wages, too. The better the economy and the more jobs available the fewer migrants will be trying to climb Trump's wall. So win, win all around (except for the Chinese).

  8. Time for trudeau to do wahrt is right for once. And that is stick with our allies and tell china to take thier government controlled company and shove it. If trudeau allows them to set up shop here, we will have absolutely no friends left in the world. And all back our ambassador from china, because the man is not capable of doing the job. He was sent thier so trudeau could hide him and the chinese know that.

  9. You were talking about "running a country". When it comes to family and friends, if they are talking about themselves, plans that we are making, or other things that they should have clear knowledge or controlling decision making power over, then sure I'll trust them. But if they are talking about politics, the latest "scientific study", or other things they may have heard or seen that they don't have direct knowledge or control over, I assume it's bullsh*t just as if I'd seen it on facebook. Whether I let them know of that fact or politely smile and nod depends on the person, of course.

  10. Agreed. The only way to show your honesty is to continue to be honest for long enough that the person who you are trying to convince of your honesty thoroughly establishes the fact of your honesty in their minds. And then, once they fully trust you, is when you betray them of course and move on to the next victim.

  11. No, she wasn't telling the truth. You think she was. Everyone remembers where a traumatic experience happens. Drinking one beer isn't an excuse to forget so many details. Like the Jian Ghomeshi accusers, she's a harpie who's been known in the past for her left-wing political activism.

  13. The situation deserved a confrontation. He had the right to confront the Democrats and the false allegations against him. This was a public tribunal with no ethics, no morals, one of the accuser of Kavanaugh, Ford, had no proofs, no witness, and all the supposed witnesses she mentioned denied her lies. She doesn't know when, where, how she shot there, how she went back home, she took only one beer that night. Give me an effing break, any normal human being unlike Hillary Clinton when she was investigated would have confronted the illegitimate farce of a 'jury' in front of him. Props on him to stand up for himself, because men of value won't be Supreme Court Justices because of the mess of the false allegations and all the slanders, reputation damage it causes. You really have something wrong to blame Kavanaugh in that case.

  14. Nobody said there was anything wrong with bettering yourself. And nobody said there was anything good about acting like an asshole. I'm simply pointing out that at a part of male aggression displays are related to them seeking female approval. And that this works more often than not. In high school and college, it's not the members of the chess club who have legions of girls going after them, but the the guys on the football and hockey teams. And you know something else you get for aggression? Financial success. Who are the rich and powerful? Nice, gentle, sensitive, caring folks? Or people like Bill Gates, who was, from all accounts, a miserable bastard when building Microsoft, though not as miserable as Mark Zuckerberg at Facebook. Of course, Apple was founded by the gentle, kindly Steve Jobs. I understand his nickname was "Mister nice guy"? Or maybe not. And then there's Amazon's Steve Bezos, a tyrant bulldozering the world. You think there are a lot of nice guy CEOs in their corner offices? You think law firms offer partnerships to a lot of nice guys? You think you rise to the top anywhere by being Mr. Nice Guy? Women reward tough, aggressive men. Society rewards tough, aggressive men (or women) It's more than a little hypocritical to bitch about male aggression and urge men to be kinder and gentler and more sensitive when aggression is rewarded so much more often.

I don't think he's being a dick, I think he probably believes it, it's not different than the Soviet Union wherein the Soviet people were indoctrinated from birth by their propaganda arms Pravda and Tass to be totalitarians wherein the interests of the state and associated propaganda arms was indistinguishable from themselves and their own interests.

  22. Typical dick response.... Yes one could compare the CBC to be almost as non partisan as the Rebel media outlet, thats sarcasm in case you did not get it....Did the Rebel get any of that media money Justin was flinging around....nope...why not...

  23. Just a question , when are the Liberals going to stand up, grow a pair and own their mistakes, why must ever liberal compare their screw ups to Harpers government, it is the Liberal go to statement....Hey in case you have not heard the Harper government is NO LONGER in power , the Liberals are and they have been so over 3 years now....at what point is the liberals going to take ownership of their mistakes....and what point are the liberals sheeple going to see Justin's reign for what it is , one mistake after another.... And it has been pointed out this is not the first case, or second, or third this is a common mistake....for you liberals let me break IT DOWN....it means it happens a lot....and that is not acceptable conduct for a government dept....does not matter if your a liberal or a con.

  24. Someone accused me of "liking" posts that I shouldn't be "liking". To clarify, I sometimes will "like" a post that's a reply to myself to show the person that I have read it. Sometimes, there may be parts of a post I don't agree with but I will still "like" it because I appreciate the feedback, the discussion, the willingness and bravery to put your thoughts out there for criticism and I don't always feel I need to nitpick minor points I don't agree with. In summary - just because I "like" a post doesn't mean I am agreeing with it in its entirety. Thank you! Carry on!

  25. Typical hack response. The CBC is one of the jewels of Canada. It's the closest thing to a non-partisan media outlet. But just because some of their news may upset the cheerleaders of one party, suddenly they are biased.

  26. I've been concerned about this for a while now - the US could easily not feel we are securing our border (probably because we are not) and relations with the US/Canada could get very strained.
