Dick Cheney, who spent eight years as perhaps the most influential vice president in history and surely one of the most polarizing, has died. He was 84.

“His beloved wife of 61 years, Lynne, his daughters, Liz and Mary, and other family members were with him as he passed. The former Vice President died due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease,” his family said in a statement released Tuesday morning.

............. laughable we use to refer to him as Darth Vader - the destroyer of Worlds.

What's laughable is that you guys believed the Cheney/Bush LIE about WMD which was INVENTED to justify the INVASION of Iraq. 🤮

VP Dick Cheney was exactly what America needed at the time.  He is rumoured to have said to bury him face down with boots on when he dies, so his many critics can kiss his ass.  He was also SecDef, House Minority Whip, Congressman (WY), and White House Chief of Staff going back to President Ford.

They don't make VPs like that any more...RIP.

I have similar misgivings about our current politicians. Ever since the greatest generation rode off into the sunset there’s been a succession of clowns in government.

I agree...our current politicians lack "gravitas".

They grew up shielded from the horrors of the world wars, lacking perspective on the very real consequences of political decisions. Bush Senior and men like him were the last of the great statesmen.

Thinking of @bush_cheney2004 😥

I think the real Díck would be spinning in his grave listening to the way his namesake praises Trump.

I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical,

Parsing your comments on Trump, it's difficult to find hard praise that is separate from praise for the American system.

The key 🗝️ is understanding when you switch from pragmatism (economics Trumps virtue) and loyalty (my country right or wrong, your military service etc.)

Not that there's anything wrong with that.  My approach to matters of the public sphere is different, that's all.

Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase !

It is much less about loyalty...more about U.S. history and the much broader context.  Trump is only a relative blip in time, books will be written long after he is gone, just like other presidents...the country will move on.    His media skill is not in great oratory or statesmanship, but expert emotional manipulation that rattles his critics.

Might does not make right....it just makes.

If Bush/Cheney had not so thoroughly tarnished the reputation of neo-cons, we might have had Jeb Bush or Chris Christy instead of the Orange Clown. 🤮

I am surprised I can't find a liberal blaming Trump for his death.

I'm still gobsmacked at his return to respectability after turning Marxist communist and voting for Kamala Harris.

I suspect there's a pile of irrational reasons but none that make sense.

Dementia I suppose...but how does that explain his daughter Liz - it runs in the family?

Once again we see the left celebrating a death. Way to stay classy guys.

He served his country and it's sad to see him go. He was definitely an American icon

"That which doesn't kill me...

Had better start running."

I certainly had many disagreements with his policies and the brand of Republican he represented. Still, he was a true statesman and served this country in many capacities his entire life.
