I had to drive downtown the other day so I brought my 15-yr-old so that he could get a look a the junkie crowd on Hastings Street. Like a "scared straight" thing.

Maybe it was the day and time we went there, but the junkie turnout that day was excessively low. The zombies usually stretch for blocks and the sidewalks have a lot of them, but it was blocks shorter and the sidewalks weren't crowded at all. It seemed for a while as if they had all moved somewhere else, or were relocated, kinda like what they did in San Fran when Xi Xing Pin came to town. 

Anyways, if what I saw was indicative of a real reduction of fentanyl addicts downtown, it's really sad that it took the president of the USA to clean up the drug problem in Canada ffs. (There were 3 really large fentanyl busts here already this year, and when that's happening other dealers start to scale back and take less risks than usual - it's not the wild west anymore)

If Trump didn't threaten us with tariffs, would the junkie crowd still be enormous here? Would our gov't have done anything?

I dunno, like I said, maybe it was the slow time of the day/month for junkies. Maybe on the few occasions I've been there before it was the day after Welfare Wednesday, or Saturday nights... I rarely go downtown, and I don't remember what time of day I usually go there. And sometimes I take the skytrain if I go by myself.  

I'm gonna try to find out if fentanyl deaths in Canada have dropped recently.
