Christia Freeland seems to have the very qualities and qualifications we need most to deal with the issue of Trump and his tariffs.

She's been both Minister of Foreign Affairs and Finance but most of all she knows how to stand up to a childish narcissistic bully.

It took her long enough to stand up to our own childish narcissistic bully. Better late than never I suppose. At one time I thought she would have made a great PM, but that time has passed in my opinion. What the Liberal Party needs now is some new fresh blood.

If Justin steps down as most thinks he will who is going to run in his place ?

So far The Penguin's threats are only threats but they are from someone who's known to break his own treaties and promises regardless. Easy to do when you have no sense of shame whatsoever, your backers even less.

Could've left some things in place, like instead of pushing work from home calling everyone back because of unused office space, selling off that office space. Like pushing utter hatred towards a Universal social benefit while griping about 23 complete bureaucracies costing us too much. Like forcing posties back to work rather than plan a total restructuring while the staff and managers gradually find other work on their own.

But no real options are ever discussed, not even 'trimming the fat' ones anymore. So I see nothing but more than privatization and user fees on the table from PP. Pawned off this time as their 'common sense solutions'.

Persuade Nathan Cullen to reenter federal race. He could explain how the NDP played Trudeau all these years and benefited Canadians in terms they could understand. I mean there's plenty of dimwits that actually use the 'only to get his pension' to cover the fact the can't see past his turban.

Add on those who've yet to mention Freeland's objection to the wimpy uncoordinated response or plans to Trump's threats. Tack on those that think increasing border security and NATO spending will lessen the deficit and cutting or cancelling social programs will win votes.

PP's at it again, calling for his weekly non-confidence motion while he watches the Libs collapse of their own accord rather than offering no policies, no alternatives, no positive reason to ask for support. Foolish. Watch their tower collapse and there will be a better chance of a Mulroney like sweep with Canadians voting in spring rather than mid-winter.

And if they do, even a solid NDP supporter will agree the NDP may lose a few seats and the Bloc may end up the official opposition.

We need a election now, not 4 - 6 months.

Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.

Firstly, Singh's pension is not an issue. He will still be an MP and leader of the NDP after the next election. His seat is not in danger.

But a more serious situation is that four of the G7 governments are in crisis. France, Germany, the USA and now Canada. It seems it is up to Italy, maybe Japan, and the UK to hold the fort.

How is the USA in crisis?

Keep in mind there may be some calculated political moves here rather than just about their current spat over finances. This maneuver means she won’t be in Cabinet when Liberals suffer an epic election defeat and will be able to make a run for party leader sometime afterwards with a “but I resigned from Trudeau” as cover when ppl naturally try to associate her with him. A Paul Martin style coup or who knows maybe these things are all scripted when the party wants to pivot away from the current leader.

As a diehard liberal, is Freeland someone that you could see yourself promoting, or is she damaged goods?

I don't think there's anyone in Canada that hasn't voted LPOC for their whole lives who would even consider voting for Freeland now.

The timing of the winter break is perfect for Freeland. "Merry Chrysmas Justin!" Or more like "Merry Kissmyass"

He will be grovelling to her non-stop throughout the Christmas break, and she can stay away from the media, so they won't be able to beat up on her if she's not supportive enough to him.

"Hi justy, it's me, Big Momma Chrys.... On the first day of Christmas I want my toes licked. On the second I want my arse bleached. On the 3rd, HEY DUMMY, ARE YOU TAKING NOTES!?! On the 3rd I want my car washed. Mostly the bottom of it. With a toothbrush..." 🤣

I wonder if she secretly admired Jody Wilson-Raybould's strength and character for doing the right thing so much earlier, and if she thinks that she's doing the same thing now.

Being the narcissist she is I don't doubt it, but she can't hold a candle to JWR.

JWR gave up several years in a high-profile cabinet position in a government that was popular at the time, and which had the full support of every legacy media outlet pundit and "journalist" in Canada. She basically gave up everything to become a social pariah, and she did it for all the right reasons. She's the Laura Secord of our generation.

Freeland just did enough to help tarnish La Turd's legacy, and she tried to make her seem strong by doing this, but she achieved nothing for the country.

If she invokes the name of JWR to try to draw comparisons to the much bigger woman, I will lose my shit. I'm no LPOC'er, but I'll give JWR (and Philpot) ultimate props for doing the right thing at a time when no one else in the LPOC was showing any signs of integrity at all.

I think it would be suicide to take over the liberals right now with them so low in the poles....it would be much better to allow some weak link to take over for now lose the next election , and after PP is elected rebuild the liberal brand in their making...right now most Canadians the liberal brand is tarnished....right beside the NDP brand...

possibly so but someone has to be leader  and i think any of those 4 would take the chance. cause  theres always a chance in politics and tbh it's carneys job if he wants it post 2025 election so may well take the job if you can  and see if you get lucky.  chance is small but who knows

i wasnt alive back then but i read about it lol and heard story's from my dad about it.. must of been a wild few month ride lol.

maybe not nationwide because lets face it alberta and sask would vote con if even a dog ran under the banner  but as a atlantic canadian i can say harper was indeed hated about the same as trudeau is right now lol you don't get swept 32-0  without being hated

In a small region like that perhaps. But you know the first was hated even worse in western Canada and he still won.

Historically people just get tired of governments and then the next government has a chance, but I think that the memory of what the liberals have done and how hated Justin is will tend to drag on. Which doesn't guarantee anything but it does set the stage for PP if he does well and people see him as restoring canada to it's former prosperity.

There's probably not much of that going on. Not to say that it's implausible but it just doesn't seem to be the case in this particular instance.

Her letter leaves no doubt. She is calling Justin out and saying that his actions only serve himself and not Canada. About the most you can say is she's trying to distance herself from him so that she still has a leadership opportunity later but to be honest this seems to be more along the lines of he wanted her to take the fall for all of his bad economic policy and then bring carney in and she decided she did not want to take that fall and punched him right in his face instead. This was done in a way that very much targets just in himself, rather than just distancing herself from him.

The letter was very harsh, and while some of it is possibly open to interpretation there are clear phrases calling justin out that leave no doubt.

If i had to guess, justin has been talking to Carney and he went to her and wanted her to get demoted and then he'd blame her for 'bad budgets' and promote carney as the second coming who'd save us all.

There's a percentage of !diots out there who'd believe that.  Just as they did with Ignatieff.  The "white knight appearing "  concept is a popular one for liberals.

I would bet she's been arguing with him that his policies were flawed for ages, was probably furious he made her do the 'gst  holiday' thing which has bombed, and is now angry at being tossed aside because his policies didn't work.

I doubt she’s starting all this drama just out of emotions.  LPC isn’t Trumpland, people don’t have public temper tantrums and try to burn down the house just because someone made them angry, especially intelligent accomplished ones like Freeland who’s pretty much the opposite of a hothead. If it was simply frustration with JT she would likely have just politely resigned to “spend time with family” (as Sean Fraser just did) or at most referenced vague differences and it still would have sent shockwaves. Note that she says she is running in the next election.  I am sure she’s genuinely been at odds with JT but I bet she will make a run for party leader after the next election and this decoupling from Trudeau is her opening move.

Nice to see Trump displaying his maturity level, as per usual. There is a lot of speculation in America that the true reason for Trump animosity towards Freeland, is that she stood up to him, during the USMCA negotiations, and Trump actually ended up with an arguably poorer deal than he had with NAFTA. Plus Freeland is a woman, and Trump has had a history of treating women who stand up to him poorly.

Great tweet by Trump!! What a world-wide joke Canada has become. As for treating women who stand up to him poorly, talk about Justin Trudeau. His body count of women he has screwed over just went up again.

Honestly trudeau was wasting money in so many places that you don't even have to cut to save a time, you just have to stop thinking of new stupid things to spend on

Is this your first week watching Canadian politics? They absolutely absolutely absolutely do have public temper tantrums. Watch question period sometime :) But this is not the first spot like this that we've seen, I would remind you of Chretien and Martin.

I have little doubt that she's also trying to keep her reputation clean. That will tend to be true whether she's running for leader or not, she still has to get elected.

He was going to fire her and throw her to the wolves. why would she tolerate that? Demanded you do a bunch of things against your better recommendations and then when it went sideways tried to sell you out as the bad guy to the customers you might react similarly.

And for sure she decides to run for the future leadership it's good to make a break, but running for the leadership is also largely about party support and a lot of people in the party are going to have a tough time about how she did this.

Could not have said it better myself.
