'Small Government' Pierre Poilievre wants you to show your ID to watch Internet Porn

Just curious what would have been your answer to the question...Do you think porn should be restricted to those over 18 years of age....

No, that was not the question.  The question was whether he thought that porn sites should be required to verify the age of users, to which he said yes. My answer to that question would have probably been something along the lines of, "I think it's up to parents to know what their children are doing online and to make sure they learn about healthy sexuality."

His answer was a short yes....Liberals are making it into more than it was intended ...thats there thing, lying and making shit up...being that far down in the poles this is only going to get worse...we the readers need to see past the liberal magic, and lies to see the truth

That's his thing as well, don't you worry, but you're right.  This isn't a big deal, and I don't think anyone is making much of anything about it beyond it being a goofy look worth a couple chuckles.  The real dopes are the ones getting their knickers twisted and making it out to be a pro vs con child pornography debate...one of these clowns is here at least.

were young and someone stole their daddy's playboy, kids are going to access porn one way or another at least a bit. But there's nothing wrong with saying dedicated sites should make some effort to restrict access

No, and as I mentioned, most sites are pay sites, and require a credit card. Others just ask you if you're over eighteen. I think the concern here is privacy, and the security of personal information. Nobody wants to worry about some website keeping a log of what you access under your real name and getting hacked, or something similar.  I think most of these sites are pretty shady, run by a guy from his basement or something. The big ones all charge. The exception are a few ad-supported sites like Pornhub.

Aside: Maybe fifteen years ago one of the guys at work and I were chatting. He was an IT guy and was providing bootleg videotapes of Hollywood movies for cut-rate prices. We were joking about porn videos and he shakes his head and says he was playing poker on the weekend with his buddies and walks past the living room to find his 11-year-old daughter still awake and watching a porn video on cable. He tells her to get to bed and she wants to wait until the movie is over.

That was fifteen years ago. Now it's everywhere. You're not gonna be able to keep kids away from it if they have any interest.

You can't get through Parental Locks.  There are locks on all devices.

But further than that, there's discussion and education to talk about what is happening in the world.

Also to mention that this is explained in sex Ed, if you don't get an exemption.

So they watch it on a friend's phone, or over at a friend's house. How many parents use those devices? And how good are they for teenagers who probably know more about technology than their parents?

I added to my post.

The tech is simple, but you also have to talk to the kids.  Regardless, I don't think making basically every male adult give his credit card is a solution people will like, or is even necessary.

We're heading for more Internet control if Pierre Poilievre obtains majority apparently.

Your OP is a lie and clear misinformation, even according to your own article you posted that you didn't even bother to read:
He didn't offer further explanation, and his office quickly followed up with a clarifying statement asserting that the Tories don't believe in the imposition of a digital ID.
How so though? Internet control doesn't mean digital ID necessarily. It can mean forcing websites to ID people via other means, such as credit card. Mama

I'd like the Liberals or anyone to show where the CPC supports digital ID for porn or anything else.  Trudeau is lying and spreading misinformation as far as in can see

Or it could not.

So the op is sitll a lie.  WHat you're doing is imagining possible scenarios that you think cast his comment in a bad light but that he never said nor suggested.  Do you see him saying websites should require credit cards? No? Hmmmm.

Remind me how you're a total conservative again? :)

So the op is sitll a lie.  And the proposed law isn't even "all" porn,  it just applies to for-profit porn sites.

Bill S210

No it doesn't.

Here's the bill

https://www.parl.ca/DocumentViewer/en/44-1/bill/S-210/third-reading

Show me in there where it says digital id or credit cards?

In fact  - it says any verification method required must:

Age-verification method

(2)Before prescribing an age-verification method under subsection (1), the Governor in Council must consider whether the method

  • (a)is reliable;

  • (b)maintains user privacy and protects user personal information;

  • (c)collects and uses personal information solely for age-verification purposes, except to the extent required by law;

  • (d)destroys any personal information collected for age-verification purposes once the verification is completed; and

  • (e)generally complies with best practices in the fields of age verification and privacy protection.

    Age verification has been a thing for lots of websites for ages. it doesn't require digital id or credit cards

Instead of Over 18 & under18 checkboxes, post a jpeg  of a simple question handwritten in cursive and ask users to answer....🙂

Kind of stupid to write laws like the one that makes the cashier ask pensioners their birthdate to buy smokes. And to hide the Nicorette gum in locked cupboards so no one sees it.

LOL :)   yeah that would do it these days.  Or  -"Please post a video of you starting a lawn mower".

Amusingly these days AI can tell if people are of the age of maturity with reliability from a camera, and damn near every device comes with one of those now.  Enter a user account and password, turn the camera on and it says "yep, he's of age" and discards the pic,  and the account is verified.

Sure - there's no way sophisticated modern AI could possibly be trained to recognize a picture vs a real image  ;)

Let me guess - given your level of technological prowess you still call the microwave the 'big clock in the kitchen" right? :)
