Happy Canada Day to all Canadians.

Interesting how certain groups get special status in Canada, making  the rest of us second class.  Even the French who married natives are called Metis and given special status.  Figure that out.  What makes them so special?  Some Canadians with special status get certain benefits the rest of don't get and have to pay for ourselves.

"The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) sponsors the Métis Health Benefits program to provide eligible Indigenous Métis residents of the Northwest Territories access to a range of benefits not covered by hospital and medical care insurance. Through this program, NWT residents receive coverage for eligible prescription drugs, dental services, vision care, medical supplies and equipment."

NWT Métis Health Benefits Program | Health and Social Services (gov.nt.ca)

I mean sure. On the other hand it's hard to buy into a corporate health insurance plan, when all you have in trade is wampum.

We don't hear about crimes in BC here in Ontario either unless it is major and people get killed. Canada is a vast country.

It is not about bringing in White people but good people. All those Russian mafia gangsters or Bosnian criminals or Eastern Europeans involved in gang related crimes or prostitution and pimping are all white and I prefer the honest hardworking black African or even a hard working middle eastern Muslim or a hard working honest colored west Asian to those white trash gangsters who will contaminate Canada by their arrival.

Your mind is so blind with racism that you see everything as black and white. I feel sorry for you. Your heart is filled with hate. You don't enjoy life as every time you go out and most likely see a colored face, your blood pressure goes up and your heart filled with anger. You are imprisoned in the cage of your own hate.

Calling white people "white trash" is racist. So, you must be an anti-white racist, eh? Would you dare call a non-white person of color "trash"? No, you would not dare to do so. Only white people can be racist. BS.

There has been many non-whites that have been brought into Canada who have been committing many many gang related crimes. You even said yourself that Middle Eastern men are committing crimes in Ottawa. There has been plenty of gang related shootings and murders by East Indian drug gangs here in BC these past few years. It certainly does not look to me that some of these East Asians are hard working and honest to goodness law abiding citizen's.

I see white people becoming a minority more and more everyday here in BC and I am dam mad about it. I shop at many different stores and businesses and I can hardly find a white person working in them anymore. In 5 BC cities and one regional district, visible minorities or as some like to call them people of color which looks like anti-white racism words to me, are now in the majority. White people in Canada will soon become imprisoned in their own white homeland. The white people will have no say as to how BC and Canada will operate anymore. They will be overruled by a bunch of foreign non-compatible cultural strangers. It will happen. Believe it or not.

As I have said many times here in the past. I am not against any race of people immigrating to Canada. What I am against is the numbers. Pretty much 80% of Canada's new immigrants and refugees are coming from non-white countries and this has been going on for several decades now. It is not to difficult for anyone to see and figure out that white people will become a minority in another decade, and white people like myself should not be concerned about this? I think that your heart must be filled with hate when you call white people like me "white trash" racist. ?

The statues were toppled as a result of the mass graves found in school yards.  Kids died during the old Canada times.

You think the new Canada is better than the old one and can be celebrated?

As I have said many times here already. Canada died in 1980 when old man comrade Trudeau won the election in that year. Ever since then, the old Canada has been under attack by the communists that are now taking over Canada bit by bit and by trying to create division. The leftist liberal/socialists/communists are trying to do the same thing in Canada as they are trying to do in America. Sow division and mayhem and hatred among each race of people. That is what those scumbags do all the time. They try and create division to try and stay alive with their bull chit racism nonsense all the time.

Where are all of these so called white supremacists groups who are supposedly trying to create havoc and chaos against non-white people? I never see them committing any racial crimes of racism in America. That is because it is not there. It is the leftist liberal lying media that is the problem here. They create the hatred.

White people of today are not running around in Canada trying to keep the old past alive and well. On the contrary, white people have done a hell of a good job of trying to fix the problems of past racism against native Indians. Those white people are now being treated like shit. The toppling of statues of my British heritage really has pizzed me off. I am one quite angry white person that sees racism starting to pick up in Canada against white people. Others may soon want to get in on the act also. That I can pretty much guarantee. Only time will tell.

No one is saying that what happened in the past was good and great for the native Indians but I believe that the white people of today have been trying their hardest to rectify that problem. Toppling statues of my British history when I had nothing to do with what happened at that time period is an attack on my British heritage and white race. The pulling down of those statues was an act of anti-white British racism. A fire cannot be eliminated if more gas is poured on the fire. Get my drift, eh? ?

It depends. I don't think public CEO with a $2M golden parachute for failed leadership, GG with lifetime expenses paid by taxpayers and MP with $185 K plus allowances plus pensions plus all expenses paid by taxpayers have any reasons to not celebrate the new Canada.

The question is different though: will there be enough for everybody (else) and how long will the party last.

Only the Canadian leftist liberal communist elite are celebrating Canada Day. They are celebrating all the years that they have shafted the taxpayer's of this once great British/European nation everyday. They have lied, cheated, stolen and continue to try to take our freedoms away from us every day so why would they not celebrate Canada Day. It's all their Canada Day now and not mine. How this country manages to survive is truly amazing.

The only thing that I can see that is keeping and holding Canada together from disappearing is the political duct tape and political bull shit glue that is keeping Canada together. the party will last forever until the sheeple get off their lazy asses and do something about it. There are many patriotic Canadian groups out there that are trying very hard to save Canada. They are trying to save and make Canada great again and that in the near future we can all celebrate Canada Day with a smile and great pride. The only political party that I see out there that can save Canada is the People's Party of Canada. They are Canada's last hope for survival. Another four more years of the other four anti-Canadian political party's will bring an end to this country once and for all. Just my opinion of course. ?

Again, those things happened before 1980 and were done by ?  the capitalists, since according to you the socialists took over the country after that year.

The statues were appropriately taken down since the genocide was started under queen Victoria and continued under queen Elizabeth.

I could figure out what happened in these lands before any graves were discovered.  It only adds to my conviction.

I wish one day we could be proud of Canada.  If it happens it will be because of what we did from now on.  The past was not too bright.

You’re unbelievable.  You do realize that genocide means the murder of a people?   Not one or a few people unintentionally or intentionally by one or some independent people.  What does Queen Elizabeth or Victoria have to do with it?

Actually I am proud of Canada, generally. Even though I criticize both its past and present.

Or show me a better country in the world...

It's not about shopping for a best country, but one cannot look at how good something is without taking into account the environment. Even if because little is guaranteed forever and someone who can build a house in a desert and make it work, may have better chance beyond the turn that he who sits on riches and sells them with little thought to revel any free minute.

Really, what is Canada's own story in the world in these two centuries and counting? Is there more to it than basically sell whatever can be found, build a mansion and drop crumbles for those worse off to look not just wealthy (that is a must) but also generous and "equitable"? The reality easily breaks the wonderful song though. How equitable for example, is $185 K salary with allowances for a regular "citizen representative"? Highest quality and efficient pubic service? Excellent and affordable services to the citizens? Sustainable communities? Affordable housing? Excellent and accessible public health and not only in emergency? I can keep counting, but what is there beside spending extra fraction of % of the natural riches, that belong not to the companies who extract them, and not to the elites who distribute them, including into own pockets, but to all citizens, those crumbles that create excellent ratings?

Can the best country have Charlie Smiths in courts for decades, tortures in mental hospitals for decades, Phoenix failures for decades, sexual problems in military and police for decades? Maybe we need another pat on the back as the best, and maybe we need an honest mirror. Everyone's guess.

White immigrants from Europe are not involved in crime.  Your insinuation is pure fiction.  Where did you come from?   Did you hear on the news somebody in Haiti just assassinated the President of Haiti?  Great place!  Haiti has a history of instability, violence and coup d' etat.  Even the liberal CBC admitted that this morning.  Yet how many immigrants or illegal border crossers came in from Haiti?  How many of the Toronto gun criminal's parents or grandparents came from Haiti? Those are the kind of places that should be on the ban list.  Trump had the right idea when he closed the borders to certain countries.  Those are the exact kind of places Canada gets a lot of it's immigrants from.

Mostly minor or fake problems that most countries wish they had.  Progress is never complete and there is always fallout.  The real question is whether generally progress is taking place most of the time for most people.  The evidence across multiple metrics, from life span to education levels to living standards, is a resounding yes, including for all minority groups.  I think that, apart from fighting climate change, most of what we are doing policy-wise is minor tweaking, unless we keep the CERB or some form of universal basic income, which is significant.  Climate change can and likely will be used as a stick to oppress people and drive down consumption and living standards for the masses if managed incorrectly.

I absolutely get it that hundreds of unmarked graves for a hundred of years without bothering anybody can be a "fake problem". Life expectancy is not the best in the world, and opioid crisis may have something to do with it as well as education and opportunities. But OK, one sees what they want to see and comparing to others in a country with the riches of a continent, one can always find positive perspectives, it depends only on the choice of the benchmark. Some countries in the third world had rapid trains for years, for example.

Here's the thing though, is there one essential characteristic by which the best country in the world is actually, the best? Beside the ratio of MP salary to the average of course (that also includes MP and CEO salaries).

Yes there are many yardsticks out there.  The UN Human Development Index is one.  You can look at infant mortality rates, life expectancy, access to healthcare, literacy levels, perception of well-being/happiness, upward mobility, which countries’ worst off people are the best off relative to other countries, income levels (by purchasing power), quality of infrastructure, water and air quality, access to higher education, number of patents/quantity of quality research, GDP, tax levels, social safety net benefits, social harmony, treatment of immigrants, etc.  Canada is always near the top.  Norway does better, but it’s a much smaller country with large state-owned oil revenue.  Canada has the best public education system in the English speaking world.

The residential school system was an attempt to provide free education for Indigenous.  It was in English or French and reflected the values of the educators.  No doubt there were abuses, more in residential schools than regular public schools, but teaching people how to read and write and function in mainstream society was considered important and progressive.  It still is.  There’s great shock value in headlines like child graveyards, even if the deaths took place over more than a century and during a time without antibiotics or modern medicine, but it doesn’t tell the whole story.  “Cultural genocide” is a strange term because removing a culture or language and intentionally murdering a people have very different meanings that are thrown together in the same term.  It’s not clear that there was a system-wide ban on children using Indigenous languages.  Different practices took place at different schools and individual educators did different things.  All public education was much harsher than it is today.  Strapping and corporal punishment were commonplace.  Workplaces were harsher.  Work hours were longer.  More people died and become seriously sick with untreated illnesses.  Education was considered an important leg up in the world and the rich paid good money for it before public education.  Much more context needs to be brought to these historical conversations.

It’s clear that the public are easily manipulated. Indigenous today have more benefits than any segment of society.  Injustices happened in the past and not just for Indigenous.  They warred with each other, committed atrocities against settlers.  People are people.  Catholics were mistreated by Protestants in progressive Toronto. Jews were turned away during the war.  Chinese were treated like second class citizens in Canada’s early history.  Yet we were also the land of Canaan at the end of the Underground Railroad for fleeing slaves.  Slavery was banned by Ontario’s first Lieutenant Governor, Simcoe, yet the street named after him in Toronto might have its name changed.  I guess he wasn’t perfect.  Well Canada isn’t perfect.  No country or people or person is.

The country needs to modernize its democracy and governance of public affairs, critically maybe even urgently. The rate and character of changes is nowhere the same as two hundred years back. Climate change, housing crisis, long term care crisis, health care system outside of emergency certainly not up to the highest standard I personally know several cases to attest to that. Who will figure it out, a bunch of top paid bureaucrats in countless meetings like CRTC? Did it ever happen and why would it, even if could? Theirs is a different reality and all is fine with it.

But the thing is, that in all the years we never bothered to create mechanisms of adaptation and change, just like the democracy itself that was given like a used coat, as is wear or throw away. With the obvious result that now it's next to impossible. If the cost of building several stations of LRT is well into billions, how much would a high-speed train cost, trillions? Where would it come from, on top of everything else that just keeps adding percents, ding, ding. Could it even happen or we're going to stay with a 19th century railways into the 22nd like a museum for the world?

And the rationalization of good intentions, of course it explains everything and the bureaucracy has grown expert in it if not in producing results. Failure, did not know, another oh so new, fiasco but the intention was good! so apologize on behalf of everybody and pay compensation out of their pocket and sure Phoenix was supposed to save taxpayer money. Only in what book does it look like the best the world has to offer? We have to be careful about repeating it thoughtlessly before we change not the reality but the standard with which we measure it.

High speed rail is exactly the kind of infrastructure upgrade we should fund because it raises productivity for the movement of people, goods, and services, while also helping the country meet national goals like fighting climate change.  How else do we end short distance flights like France has?

Canada has become overridden by identity politics and demands for more handouts from special interest groups.  I do blame Trudeau for this   He tried to steal the NDP platform to get a majority, shifting the country left, and opened inquiries that became about every left wing wish.  He’s destroying national pride   Now all political leaders do is try to win purity contests on inclusivity, acting sorrowful, and upping the handouts.   Meanwhile China is building the high speed rail network of the future and modernizing the developing world, creating new partnerships.   Wake up!

The definition of genocide means there was no genocide of the residential school children.  There is no evidence they were killed.  Sure they were in many cases abused physically and mentally.  But that doesn't equate to murder.  There may have been neglect in caring for them and some died as a result, but that still doesn't meet the definition of genocide.  The cultural genocide is a false claim.   The purpose of the schools was to assimilate the aboriginal children into white man's society but calling it a cultural genocide is a stretch. Using the word genocide is deceptive and misleading.  Natives drive pickup trucks, cars, and live in houses.  Are they really complaining about that?  No.  They use the public health care system instead of going to a medicine man.  Are they complaining about that?  No.  People who throw the word genocide around need to wake up and act more responsibly with their words.  They are inciting hatred and possibly criminal acts.

A land border that our dear comrade leader Fidel Trudeau does not want to open up. Fidel is trying to keep Canadians prisoners in their country. It has been a crime for those land borders to be shut all this time. It is time to bring back the good old normal days back now. Open the land border up now. Works for me. ?

Future looks pathetic, with this I agree.  We cannot change the past; I agree again.

What I cannot agree with is hiding things under the rug so as to make your British culture look more noble than any of the past or present day dictatorships who live on the backs of other people and or are willing to kill them off to take over their wealth.

But I am sure someone here will somehow manage to shift the blame again to the Communists, Russians, East European gangs and if not very convincing they can involve the middle East, Asia or central and south America - all those are of course banana countries, inhabited by banana people, managed by banana presidents - this is where evil is; it is not us.
