betsy Posted January 17, 2019 Report Posted January 17, 2019 (edited) Remember the influx of refugees from Syria? And, how Goodale and Trudeau assured us about the vetting process? How do you explain this? Quote Person of 'national security concern' was accidentally granted permanent residency A person of "national security concern" was granted permanent residency "due to a series of failures" by the Canadian border agency and immigration department. In light of the incident, both departments have had to introduce changes in what the public safety minister's office is calling a "completely unacceptable" mistake. The changes were outlined in a briefing note sent by Canada Border Services Agency president John Ossowski to Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale in early 2018 regarding the 2017 error. That means the person is entitled to most social benefits — including health care — can live, work and study anywhere in Canada, and is protected by Canadian law and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, but isn't considered a citizen. Most of the details about why this person is considered a security concern and how they were granted permanent residency were redacted because, among other reasons, officials believe releasing information could hurt "the conduct of international affairs, the defence of Canada or any state allied or associated with Canada." https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/cbsa-permanent-residency-error-1.4978765 How do you make mistakes as serious as this? When national security is involved - we can't afford any mistakes! How many more "mistakes" are there that hasn't been discovered yet? The Trudeau and Goodale must be held accountable! These two were the ones who'd open our borders despite concerns about the vetting process! Edited January 17, 2019 by betsy 1 Quote
betsy Posted January 17, 2019 Author Report Posted January 17, 2019 (edited) Quote Changes raise red flags Ossowski told Goodale that the border agency identified a number of "vulnerabilities" and is taking steps to "respond to this incident and to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future." https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/cbsa-permanent-residency-error-1.4978765 A NUMBER OF VULNERABILITIES? How many vulnerabilities are we talking about here? What kinds of vulnerabilities are these when this person was granted permanent residence? Obviously, Goodale and Trudeau lied to Canadians about being prepared to admit so many refugees! How can you trust our leaders when they're blatantly caught giving false reassurances? How can we have confidence in their decisions? Edited January 17, 2019 by betsy Quote

I think that this is probably more common than we believe, and it comes down to process, it comes down to organizational structure and it comes down to investment in officers. So, it's concerning." Last month the Opposition Conservatives called for a review and audit of the immigration screening system after a CBC News investigation revealed a Somali gang member with an extensive criminal record was twice released in Canada. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/cbsa-permanent-residency-error-1.4978765 This should be chilling enough. betsy Posted January 17, 2019 Author Report Posted January 17, 2019 (edited) And here's the latest mockery of our security system! Quote Speedy acceptance of Saudi shows refugee system’s flaws But the Liberal government’s decision to grant her refugee status virtually sight unseen — in effect, letting her jump the queue — is unwise. It confirms what many critics of the refugee system have charged: that it is unfair, driven by politics and open to manipulation. Exactly how she made it to Thailand remains murky. She had been on a family holiday in Kuwait. There she eluded her relatives and boarded a flight to Bangkok, with the intention of travelling on to Australia. How did a young woman under constant watch buy an overseas air ticket, obtain a visa to Australia and lam it to the airport? In the end, both Canada and Australia offered her sanctuary. But the Australians insisted that she go through its standard vetting process first. Canada waived its usual rules and accepted her as a refugee unconditionally. So she came here. Usually, it takes up to two years for Canada to process a UN refugee claim. https://www.reddeeradvocate.com/opinion/speedy-acceptance-of-saudi-shows-refugee-systems-flaws/ Edited January 17, 2019 by betsy Quote

I've been concerned about this for a while now - the US could easily not feel we are securing our border (probably because we are not) and relations with the US/Canada could get very strained. 2 Quote "There are two different types of people in the world - those who want to know and those who want to believe." ~~ Friedrich Nietzsche ~~

Voters/taxpayers/citizens are no better - we're long past the point where we can say its just an accident that our governments are so incapable. Decades of incompetently and stupidly putting up with our shitty governance has resulted in a world where we have to be constantly worried about the increasingly violent reaction to it. marcus Posted January 17, 2019 Report Posted January 17, 2019 A couple of funny things that came out of the total clusterf*ck by CBSA/Immigration are the following: 1) The CBC, the so-called liberal news media that gives a pass to the Trudeau government, is who broke this story 2) The Liberals are following the exact same process and procedure that the Harper government practiced. But the "OMG TRUDEAU IS LETTING IN MUSLIM TERRORISTS IN HORDES!!!!11" crowd don't want to acknowledge that. Quote "What do you think of Western civilization?" Gandhi was asked. WRONG! Was there ever a time when a person that's considered a concern to our national security ever granted permanent resident status? Was there ever a time during Harper's government wherein this same thing happened? Quote Canada waived its usual rules and accepted her as a refugee unconditionally. So she came here.
