During a news conference at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday, Trudeau was asked about allegations made against Hehr on social media. Trudeau responded by saying that it’s “really important to believe and support any woman who comes forward with allegations of sexual harassment or sexual assault and that’s exactly what, my government and myself, we do.” On a day where Patrick Brown got turfed from Leadership of the Ontario Liberals within a matter of hours, will this dude still be in the Liberal Caucus by the end of the day? ?Impact Posted January 25, 2018 Report Posted January 25, 2018 Trudeau wasted no time in dealing with Scott Andrews and Massimo Pacetti, so I wouldn't expect anything different here. Quote

Who knew there were so many nasty guys in the world? Just guys being guys. It's in most men's nature to want to get their hands on a female. Men can't help that because god set things up that way and that is what is making men do or sometimes say nasty things to women. Most sex jokes are done only in jest. The problem today is that those jokes can now lead to sexual harassment. Today women are now being pretty much allowed to make a man's life miserable, and pretty much get away with it. Who knows that maybe one day soon just looking at a women can get the poor batard in trouble. It will and can be abused by women. Hey, you never know, eh? It is getting pretty dangerous for men out there. Gawd help all the men in the world if the women takeover. Wife to hubby: Be home by eleven and finish doing the laundry or else you will be grounded and won't be allowed to go bowling with the guys for two weeks. 1 Quote

OftenWrong Posted January 26, 2018 Report Posted January 26, 2018 Sure men do make advances on women, because they are sexually attracted to them. A man might test her willingness by making suggestive or even lewd comments. I think that's just normal, and if the woman indicates that this attention is not welcome, the man should immediately cease. At that point I do not see any harm done. My point is we need to balance our reaction to these stories in the context of actual harm, if any. The mere act of making sexual advances should not be seen as deserving punishment. 1 Quote

Even if women did take over what reason would we have to believe the nastier dynamics of power wouldn't essentially remain the same? I've often compared the abusive relationships between powerful and powerless countries as being as similarly damaging if not much worse than the sexual abuse powerful people inflict on the powerless and I wish the MeToo movement would focus more on the abuse of power in general than just the sexual abuse. I can't help but feel that the tone of the times really underscores my oft-repeated contention that redistributing wealth is nothing compared to the need to redistribute power more evenly throughout society. Do that and wealth would probably just redistribute itself without much effort.. 1 Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

They'll likely have to go through a similar trial by fire that women have endured, but I for one would like to get to a place where nobody felt they couldn't speak up. 1 Quote

capricorn Posted January 26, 2018 Report Posted January 26, 2018 Quote The tally is in. As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau welcomed aboard each new minister of his cabinet, he shared 22 hugs and 32 kisses. The longest hug—clocking in at nine seconds—was with Kirsty Duncan, minister of science, while the runner-ups were seven seconds long with Bill Morneau, the new minister of finance, and Maryam Monsef, the minister of democratic institutions. The tightest squeeze went to Chrystia Freeland, the minister of international trade, while the quickest canoodles—lasting just two or three seconds—were with Scott Brison, president of the Treasury Board, and Mélanie Joly, the minister of Canadian heritage. The nine ministers who didn’t hug the new Prime Minister got back pats, cheek kisses or shoulder holds, but they still missed out. As Trudeau said to Freeland during the ceremony, “I’m a good hugger.” http://www.macleans.ca/politics/ottawa/from-hugs-to-claps-heres-justin-trudeaus-swearing-in-by-the-numbers/ Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. dialamah Posted January 27, 2018 Report Posted January 27, 2018 (edited) The fact that so many men here can't tell the difference between enthusiastic participation and unwanted advances is an indication of why so many men are being felled for being clumsy oafs and offending women they hope to woo. Now that we've had the enthusiastic participation pic, here's one of the opposite. Pay attention, boys, this info could save your job some day. Edited January 27, 2018 by dialamah Quote

It's probably just that unwanted advances aren't unwanted until they are advanced. I think that, as long as they are not repeated, then there should be no issue. No-one has a right not to be offended. Edit> Sometimes, of course, if one is not inclined to be a hugger, one could just put up with it to be nice. I know all about that!
