Charles Anthony Posted August 24, 2016 Report Posted August 24, 2016 What policy do you want regarding posting images here at MLW? Take your pick:1) multi-media forbidden anywhere in the forum; inline links only;2) multi-media permitted everywhere in the forum;3) multi-media permitted only in the lower forums; inline links only in the upper forums;4) multi-media permitted everywhere in the forum; forced thumb-nails; click to expand in new window;Any other choices? Here are some past threads:ImagesQuoting PDFs Quote We do not have time for a meeting of the flat earth society. << Où sont mes amis ? Derek 2.0 Posted August 24, 2016 Report Posted August 24, 2016 I voted number two.......clearly so called "image trolling" is subjective, as such, should be dealt with like any other forms of "trolling". With that, if one considers honest discourse as an exchange of information and ideas, enabling pics/videos/graphs/maps etc is but an extension of that exchange....text books and manuals etc contain images alongside text after all. Of the forums I belong to, including several professional bodies, I've never seen such a hang-up or restriction placed on the exchange of information.....I can't speak for others, but my interest in this forum has waned due to such unneeded restrictions..........as they say though, not my forum, not my rules. GostHacked Posted August 24, 2016 Report Posted August 24, 2016 A very appropriate image Derek. I'll voted #2 Quote
Bonam Posted August 24, 2016 Report Posted August 24, 2016 I'd say images permitted everywhere, videos permitted only in the "lower forums". Given the choices, I picked #2 in the poll. Also, while you're on images, there is an issue with posting links to images that are in the .svg format (many graphics on wikipedia are in this format). If you have some time, would be great if that could be looked into. Quote
WestCoastRunner Posted August 24, 2016 Report Posted August 24, 2016 I rarely click on a link to YouTube except if it relates to music. Most of the YouTube videos posted here are garbage with nothing to back up whatever is being touted. However, I did vote #2. Quote I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Moonlight Graham Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 Charles I just want to commend you on making this poll and (i assume) taking the opinions of the users of this site into consideration regarding how we should use the site. Should happen more often frankly. Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.

Bonam Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 If you go for 4 I would make the thumbnail bigger than the present setting, at least. Quote

?Impact Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 I voted for a thumbnail display, but it should be based on the byte size of the image. I don't care about screen real-estate, I care about data transferred. If someone posts a large graph that compresses down due to lots of white space then no problem, I just don't want to download someones cat video by default. Quote
Bonam Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 .. I care about data transferred. ... why? Quote
Moonlight Graham Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 #4 is a good compromise. Don't listen to these people... This isn't a democracy... Only because you disagree with the consensus right? What's wrong with having the actual people using the site having input on how the forum they use should work? betsy Posted September 12, 2016 Report Posted September 12, 2016 So Charles, what's the verdict on the image rules? Quote
Charles Anthony Posted September 12, 2016 Author Report Posted September 12, 2016 We are giving this: 4) multi-media permitted everywhere in the forum; forced thumb-nails; click to expand in new window;a test run. What do you think? Quote We do not have time for a meeting of the flat earth society. << Où sont mes amis ? Ils sont ici, ils sont ici... >>
Bonam Posted September 12, 2016 Report Posted September 12, 2016 We are giving this:a test run. What do you think? I'd make the thumbnails bigger so it's possible to see what's in the linked image before clicking it. The thumbnails right now are so tiny it's hard to tell what the image is before clicking it. I'd make them roughly 2x the current size, if possible. Quote
Smallc Posted September 12, 2016 Report Posted September 12, 2016 I like what was done with the quoting. Now, I can quote different things, and it automatically becomes a multiquote. Quote

betsy Posted September 13, 2016 Report Posted September 13, 2016 (edited) We are giving this:a test run. What do you think? How do I put a thumbnail? Does it come with a thumbnail automatically? Edited September 13, 2016 by betsy Quote
Moonlight Graham Posted September 13, 2016 Report Posted September 13, 2016 How do I put a thumbnail? Does it come with a thumbnail automatically? just post the picture as usual and it will automatically become a thumbnail. The_Squid Posted September 13, 2016 Report Posted September 13, 2016 On iPad, I can't even see the thumbnail of the image. Quote
