betsy Posted May 1, 2016 Report Posted May 1, 2016 (edited) Who will Trump pick as a running mate? In his Costa Mesa speech, he said that he was going to be "nice" to Jeb Bush......but not anymore after he found out he slammed him (Trump) in an interview with NBC. Then Trump said, "we need high-energy people. We don't need low-energy." Was he planning on picking Jeb Bush for a running mate? There's pressure being made that he should pick a woman - and I agree! Please, oh please....let it be CONDOLEEZA RICE! I'm a fan! But considering her vast experience, and added that she's a woman, and she's Black, and she's got the dignified poise to counter Trump's "rough" edges - she'll be the perfect choice! GOP women push Trump on VP pickThere are a number of prominent Republican women who could land on Trump’s short list. Lummis floated former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) as possibilities. Ayotte is considered one of the most vulnerable Senate Republicans up for reelection in November, but it’s unclear whether she’d be open to running with Trump. She has not endorsed any candidate in the GOP primary but has said she will support the eventual nominee. “Kelly is focused on doing her job serving the people of New Hampshire in the Senate, and she is running for reelection,” Ayotte campaign spokeswoman Liz Johnson said in response to the vice presidential idea. Rice, meanwhile, has shown little interest in elected office since her days in the George W. Bush administration. And Trump could have trouble convincing her to join his ticket, given his criticism of the Bush family, which Rice served in the White House. http://thehill.com/news/campaign/278101-gop-women-push-trump-on-vp-pick Who do you think it should be? Shady Posted May 1, 2016 Report Posted May 1, 2016 Rice would be great but I don't think she'd be interested. So would Rubio, but I don't think he'd be interested either. Carly Fiorina would've been smart, maybe it's still a possibility. Picking Kasich would be smart in terms of pure electoral reasons. Quote

He criticized and made fun of Cruz for being mathematically dead from winning, and picking a running mate who'd lost at the early start of the primary. I think there's also bad blood now between the two (Fiorina and Trump). But in politics....you never know. Maybe. Edited May 1, 2016 by betsy Quote
Hal 9000 Posted May 1, 2016 Report Posted May 1, 2016 I've always been a fan of Condie. I'm surprised she didn't run for president, actually. Having her on the ticket would be a game changer for sure, but she said in an interview that after GW, she wanted to distance herself from politics. Has enough time passed that she might get back into the ring? Hopefully. Has enough time passed that she might get back into the ring? Hopefully. You're surprised that one of the highest ranking members and biggest cheerleaders of one of the most unpopular and disastrously incompetent White House administrations in modern US history didn't run for president in the years immediately following? Dubya had a 25-30% approval rating when he left, and she pinned her career to his for all those years she worked for him. Condi needs to distance herself from politics because she was terrible at it. Her policies are terrible, her character is terrible, her judgement is terrible, and she hangs around a bad crowd. IMO, she should just stick with teaching. bush_cheney2004 Posted May 2, 2016 Report Posted May 2, 2016 Good thing Condoleezza Rice never worried about her critics, especially those in Canada. She achieved things others can only argue about, and would make a fine VP. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
kimmy Posted May 2, 2016 Report Posted May 2, 2016 John McCain allegedly thought she'd make a fine VP, but was talked out of it by advisors who convinced him that the "evangelical core" of Republican voters would never support her. I doubt that it would be any different just 8 years later. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

betsy Posted May 3, 2016 Author Report Posted May 3, 2016 (edited) Maybe I'm making much out of nothing, but why would Guillani mention Condi Rice? Could it be he knows something we don't? I'm still hoping..... Giuliani: Kasich, Condoleezza Rice Good Running Mates for Trump Choosing Kasich would also give Trump "some of the things some of the people are looking for," said Giuliani, making a reference to Kasich's experience as first a U.S. Representative and then as a popular two-term governor in Ohio. The former mayor, though, also tossed out Rice's name, but didn't explain why. Rice is now a senior fellow at Stanford's Hoover Institution and has remained out of politics after leaving office. http://www.newsmax.com/Politics/Rudy-Giuliani-Running-mates-Trump-Condoleezza/2016/04/26/id/725719/ Edited May 3, 2016 by betsy Quote

Big Guy Posted May 5, 2016 Report Posted May 5, 2016 This is a real change. In the past, when anyone had the potential to become the President of the USA, there was speculation on who would be given the honor of being chosen as VP. It appears in this case that the question is who is prepared to sacrifice their political career and accept a Trump VP job.
