She should be outraged. She bought her ticket and selected a seat. Why should she have to change it. It just doesn't make good business sense to ask her to move. Move the Jewish man, not her.

She didn't have to change it. Other passengers helped to resolve the issue, but she still wants to rage about it, angry that other passengers didn't rage with her.

Look, generally the SJWs are the ones advocating that equality get thrown out the window in the name of not offending others, not hurting people's feelings, to be culturally sensitive, etc. A good example of this are the SJWs opposing gay pride parades in Sweden in the name of countering 'racism'. So it makes no sense to call this person an SJW on the basis that she doesn't want to be treated differently on the basis of her gender.

Now I wonder if this thread's poll results would be the same if a man was told to move because another passenger felt that 'I am threatened by sitting next to men since men are dangerous pedophiles that want to rape me because we live in a rape culture. Thus we should have safe spaces for women on planes where men are not allowed.'.

Given that some people have been kicked off of flights for speaking arabic into their cell phones can't say I'm sympathetic.

It's a make up call since the staff didn't remove him in the first place.

Hence the need for clear policy against jerks like this and Orthodox jews like in the OP.

Yes, airlines should have clear policies so it doesn't fall on befuddled staff to make potentially very controversial decisions. In particular, anyone making a scene should be politely told to shut the f###

up, and if they fail to do so, escorted off the plane for failing to comply with instructions. But they should always be given the opportunity to comply first.

There have been other religious groups that make demands too, such as having the public swimming pool have men only swimming at certain times, changing the menus in public institutions, removing certain foods from the menu, special prayer room in a university, use of a gymnasium in a public school on Fridays to use as a mosque, special prayer breaks on the job, not accepting a female as a teacher or authority over them, etc. etc. Should these kinds of demands be accommodated? Some would say yes, others no. Is this creeping Sharia?

Public swimming pools also have parent-and-child only swim times, adult-only swim times, and 'special event' only swim times. So, I'd call that accommodation, not 'creeping Sharia law'.

All the stories I've read about changing the menus because of Muslim demands are either outright false, or aren't due to Muslims, but because certain foods were not selling in that neighborhood. So I'd call this 'business as usual' and not creepting Sharia.

Using a gym for a mosque: I couldn't even find a story that supported this claim. But taking it at its face that it actually happened, I'd say accommodation - perhaps the usual mosque had been damaged by anti-Muslim forces, and the community decided that until the mosque was repaired, the gym could be loaned. So, again, not creeping Sharia.

Special prayer breaks on the job: People take bathroom breaks, water cooler breaks, and cigarette breaks on the job all the time. So again, I'd call this accommodation, not creeping Sharia.

Not accepting female teacher: This seems to be about boys who refuse to shake teacher's hands, which is different from 'not accepting a female teacher'. In Switzerland, it was decided after a time that the boys would have to face a fine every time they refused to shake a teacher's hand. This is neither accommodation nor creeping Sharia law.

In Australia, at least one school has accommodated boys who do not want to shake female teacher's hands; other schools do insist on hand shaking. I would definitely call this religious accommodation and not creeping Sharia law.
