Yeah... it's pretty stupid...

And you didn't say anything badly about the person either... you criticized her policies!

I'm thinking Trudeau senior's policies are now off the table for discussion. You know, the forum being so akin to funerals and all.

Hmm, so you continuously insult members by calling us names but somehow you just know that I am a troll and my questions are not genuine?

What's with all the insults?

Not close.......too you. It is clearly subjective on what one would consider polite...........so a pass on the funeral question?

I answered. This is not a funeral.

As for the Trudeau Jr stuff, I've change my view... I do think juvenile people are using it deliberately to get a rise out of people who are easily offended. I no longer believe that people are using it in good faith, and I wish they would stop doing it. However, I also wish people would grow up and stop getting riled up over such triviality.

It's all a silly little game to test the mods' boundaries—to see when they will act and when they won't. More specifically it's seeing how much you can "rile up" other posters while staying in bounds. It's literally the definition of trolling. Almost all of us do it to some degree or another all day long.

Not close for me either. Even if BC Chick comments could legitametely be said to have critized the person, Nancy Reagan, she's not at a funeral, and it's doubtful there's anyone here with a personal connection to her. Given that BC Chick criticed a "policy", not a person, your attempted comparison fails even harder.

No. Look back at the previous thread and note that people were discussing Ted Kennedy warts and all, without people having a tantrum and crying that it's mean to speak ill of the dead.

And note that more than one of the people taking dumps on Ted Kennedy's grave were among those offended by BC-Chick calling "Just Say No" a joke. Note that the guy who went apeshit today because people were "disrespecting someone who just died" was the guy who took the biggest crap of all on Ted Kennedy's grave.

How many times have the application of the rules changed since the Kennedy thread? I guess it's open season on the dead now. Good to know, just in time for that sad failure Carter who should croak any day now. I'll be " dumping" on his grave all day long for you polite Reagan objectors.

This is confusing: are you in the "don't insult the dead" camp or "do insult the dead camp?"

Perhaps it's the "insult them if you disagree with them" but "don't if you agree with them" type of thing?

I think I've got that right.

At any rate, you posted this to the wrong thread.

We should be having this discussion in my Nancy Reagan is dead thread.....

First off, as you were among those dumping on Ted Kennedy's grave, I don't expect that will actually be much of a change for you.

Second, I don't think the forum has ever had a rule against speaking ill of the dead. So nothing has changed, actually.

Third, you're welcome to say whatever you wish about Jimmy Carter, before he dies or after, as long as it's done within forum rules.

If its a no, why would I look back at a thread several years before I joined?

To clarify, that was a "no" as in "no" don't insult dead people even if you didn't like them...........not a "no" as in "yes" you can if you find a post from a member of the other team doing the like from years previous to justify breaking forum rules encompassing polite discourse?

I think she was just pointing out that those getting outraged at 'disrespecting the dead' seem to confine their outrage to the dead they like.

As far as I'm concerned there isn't a lot of reason to heap abuse on the dead - in most cases. But I also don't think we should praise them while ignoring their warts if those warts were of sufficient size and quantity to overshadow much of their lives.

Honestly, why would you go to a funeral if you didn't think much of the deceased? Unless, of course, it was out of respect for their surviving family, in which case why would you disrespect them by speaking ill of the dead there?

I've spoken ill of Trudeau senior for years. I did so while he was alive. Why would I change after he died?

As for Carter, why would you want to 'dump' on his grave? He was a very nice man. All he demonstrated was that it's sometimes better to have a bastard as leader than a nice man, which is something I've said often enough w/r to Harper. His presidency was a failure, sure. But it wasn't out of moral failing or meanness or corruption, as in, say, Bush Junior's failed presidency.

Is that because Americans matter more to Canadians ? Who knew that Nancy Reagan had such a hate filled following in Canada !

Hey...why was my post in the new JT USA Relations topic deleted ?

I specifically wished good luck to PM Trudeau on a new softwood lumber deal and that pesky oil pipeline.

Maybe it's just because they don't care as much about being polite as Canadians - so aren't.

Meh....ripping a 94-year-old dead woman is not very polite.

Justin Trudeau said that Americans are so important to Canada.

What is your point?

My point is I have never nor will I report anyone in this forum.

I will try to use the analogy of a basketball game. In an organized league, people have time and money invested. The game is "important" because a number of people have money invested. The game is a win or lose situation, there are physical confrontations so a referee is required because the stakes are high and the participants expect an even playing ground.

This forum to me is like a pick-up game. Participants do so for pleasure, there is no win or lose involved, the participants call their own fouls and no one takes the play very seriously. If some folks are fouling and not playing by the expected rules then you either shun them (they never get the ball) or you leave the game.

Even in a pick up game the participants generally know each other and you take responsibility for how you play. This is an anonymous forum, nobody knows anybody from anybody. The astute, self declared expert on American politics and speaking for Americans could be a 14 year old girl on her computer in her mothers house in Saigon.

When you start to spend a lot of time complaining to the referees then I suggest you review the reason as to why you chose to spend your valuable time here.

Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.
