I'm in favour of allowing embedded content as long as it meets the forum rules and guidelines for text content, I.e., are not memes used to troll or insult. It's a standard feature of forum software everywhere these days and we should be embracing the nature of online content as not linear text but rather a medium of a rhizomatic nature. Requiring hyperlinking, as opposed to embedding images and videos, breaks the reader's immersion in the topic and makes it easier to ignore what is sometimes a salient element of the discussion. I agree 100%........textbooks, instruction manuals etc contain illustrations for a reason.....clearly the human exchange of information, for thousands of years, have contained more than simply text..........if the purpose of this site is the exchange of information, its remiss and doing a disservice in the exchange of ideas among thoughtful people..........what further beggars belief (ruling out an argument of bandwidth usage?) is that its restricted in the sections meant for thoughtful discussion on politics/current events/social policy etc, but is encouraged in the "lighter sections".......... Who would of thought a political website would sanction the posting of a compassionate political speech from a relevant person like Gov. John Kasich........but the posting of sports highlights, classic pop songs from the 70s, 80s and 90s and obscure Indie films is allowed........ To me, not that I have issue with off-topic banter related threads, there seems a disconnect in the original purpose of this website........that might explain the dwindling quantity and quality of use. Both myself and BC Chick have stated that we will no longer participate in this forum if there is no transparency and suspension for Shady. I understand that if this forum loses me, it's no love lost, however, BC Chick is a higher value and if this forum loses her, it's a sad state for this site. When you were warned for calling people trolls, I expect you were surprised then too. BTW, female perspective should be thought of no higher than male. Rules are rules, and it's funny how the females want special consideration here, because they are female! But I'm sure you just want to be treated equal the rest of the time.
