bush_cheney2004 Posted June 23, 2014 Report Posted June 23, 2014 I was defending you, but since I was reported and suspended, it wont be repeated. I apologize for any confusion or offence. It's over...your suspension was minimal. I made my point....this "troll" has teeth. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
cybercoma Posted June 23, 2014 Report Posted June 23, 2014 I was defending you, but since I was reported and suspended, it wont be repeated. I apologize for any confusion or offence. You fell for it. Nothing anyone does is ever trolling on these boards and now pointing out trolling is such a grievous personal insult that it requires suspensions, warnings, and bannings. Quote

Beats me...the very idea of "reporting" another member for the purpose of moderator sanctions is "foreign" to me. Edited June 23, 2014 by cybercoma Quote

Argus Posted June 23, 2014 Report Posted June 23, 2014 I would suspect that one of the main purposes of a troll was to anger others and thus get them suspended while he cackles with glee at his 'victory'. One would have to have a pretty sad excuse for a life to use that as a substitute for success or affirmation, of course. Smallc Posted June 23, 2014 Report Posted June 23, 2014 The member was suspended by the moderator before and regardless of my report. He has a long history of personal "troll" attacks. The other member I accused of trolling (yes I was suspended for it) was banned. That seems to stand for itself. Quote

WWWTT Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 Here's an improvement I would like to see. Every time a thread gets derailed into a debate about who is a troll and who's trolling who etc. etc. Charles Anthony changes the name of the thread to "the big cry baby- he's a troll' no you're a troll" thread! That way, those of us that don't want to waste our time to look for any content about the thread when the thread has been hijacked over "troll accusations" can move on. WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Down over $1,500 in less than one year! Total fail of the moderation on this site! That reminds me, never ask Greg to be a business partner! NEVER!

Can we start a thread about double standards now? cause when I posted this in response to the latest of a brazillion "xxxxxxxx" posts playing over a 7 year period (which wasn't at all a comprehensive search accounting by any means)... yes, I did get suspended for a week. Apparently, quoting someone's own words, verbatim, can be interpreted as a personal attack. Now, when we see this just posted... yes, there certainly does appear to be a double standard! Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmm! of course my post was just a single example... of many that could be put together. Per the MLW forum rules: "We define "trolling" as a message that serves no constructive purpose and is likely to cause offence or arguments." in my suspension notification I was advised that my post was, as I quote "trolling" and that my post was, as I quote "an absurd, excessive and deliberate personal attack that adds NOTHING to the debate." double standard? Say it ain't so! Quote

WWWTT So many times have I had to post to get back on topic, because the thread gets derailed. Calling someone a troll is not a personal attack, as I could say things much worse. The term is aptly applied to the 'Senior Mocker'. Thinking he has had some great injustice done upon him, when he brings it on himself. A perfect example of a forum troll. Quote
cybercoma Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 Nonsense. Someone who baits people into attacking them then runs to the mod isn't a troll. -s Quote

We report it and ignore it. Right? You've fallen victim to trolls before. Apparently ignoring the situation will make it go away. Has it? Quote

bush_cheney2004 Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 "Ignore" works....suspected 'troll' or not. One ignored member hasn't bothered me in years, despite repeated attempts to get my attention. It has the net effect of reducing two-way combative exchanges overall (a good thing), and if one ignored member pursues personal attacks against another anyway, he/she is exposed as the real "troll". BubberMiley Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 If I were using the ignore feature as a crutch in specific situations where I felt out of my league in a debate, I would at least try to get it straight whether I've been doing it "for years" or that I've just started and "should have done it years ago." cybercoma Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 Not to change the topic, but I propose Charles Anthony be allowed to post again. It's not useful to have a moderator who doesn't post because it gives the impression he doesn't know what's going on. Quote

monty16 Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 Throw out all references to the word 'troll' and throw out any silly notion that there is such a thing as a 'troll' on any forum. It's never a valid charge and is always a lame reaction to an opinion of another poster to which the person making the charge doesn't agree. But most important, it is very often abused by a forum's admins and mods in order to move on a poster who is not being politically correct for the forum. (this isn't said with the intent of hinting at this forum's admin, mods.) I do have a personal cause in mentioning it though. I've been politically incorrect with my opinions on some forums and have ended up being banned for it. The only charge the admins or mods could dredge up was some phony charge of trolling. It's no great secret that having people banned from a forum is a delight to some people. That's the ones that will start screeching in desperation to have somebody punished for being a troll. I would appeal to this forum to be able to rise above that kind of nonsense. Quote
