Jack Layton Dies...

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the forum. You'll find several members hate you just because you have the word socialist in your user name. There are quite a few jerks here, just like in most forums. But if you're patient and remember to wear your rubber boots when you come here, you'll be ok!

Ps// you'll get used to the smell

:D

Thank you :D

I post on many forums and it's the same everywhere, I will try to avoid the poo slinging. So far I've only had one warning from the facilitator :D

He did always like a normal leftist...have doctrines - such as that cowardly "death with dignity" - It appears for the information that is coming forth that on Saturday he dictated a very lucid letter to the party and the Canadian public. Then sunday passes and early monday morning he is as dead as a door nail. Looks like Jack took matters in his own hands and "died at home peacefully" leaving the world in a drugged haze.

It's customary to wait at least a few weeks before you start kicking a dead man.

Why is it that all dead people are considered saints? Never speak ill of the dead they say - as for the left wing atheists - I bet you twenty bucks it will be a secularist funeral - with teddy bears and ballons.

Good point, after the next election, outside of the NDP, Layton will be an answer to a trivia question.........With Gaddafi's demise imminent, I'd think there would be more discussion on his impact on the world over the last 40 years.........

Still wish his family, like any other family that suffers through a death, all the best.

I am not a political fanatic, let's get that out of the way. I follow no ideology or faith. In hindsight political belief wasn't the best word...but being immediately labelled and ostracized by people on this board is quite funny considering I haven't espoused any political opinions yet.

You say Jack's political belief shortened his life...

I would like to know how you justify this quote. You blame his cancer on his political belief? If so you are a nutcase

You'll find out very quickly that Oleg doesn't make much sense most of the Time, but he is harmless.

Now I'm thinking, just as it wouldn't be appropriate to make snide comments about Layton, now this isn't the time to pick on Dancer.

... it's always appropriate when dealing with a douche who would make such comments.

Dude, Jack Layton wasn't a communist or Stalin.

Look at Norway, Germany, Switzerland

Not all leftist roads lead to hell

And this is hardly the thread to discuss these things

You sound awfully mature for sixteen.

Then again, given some of the personalities here, I suppose almost anyone sounds good by comparison. :)

And what is wrong with that if it does happen?

It's his funeral, not yours.

Good clip. Jack Layton was a politician; a good performer.

No politician at that level can be much of a fanatic, and this is what I value in our national dialogue: it's a set of compromises made by intelligent people who are doing their best.
Michael, you fundamentally don't get the political game.

----

If anyone of us were dying of cancer, if the doctor said that we had three months to live, would we choose to embark on a political campaign?

News reports typically say that she/he died doing what she/he loved to do - and Layton chose to campaign for his final days. Layton loved to campaign.

He made the most of his politics. There will always be a segment of voters looking for hope, or a handout.....and Jack was a true master at galvanizing them. He had his moment in the sun which is more than most politicians who come and go (Ignatieff and Dion come to mind). It was only after I heard of his passing that I relized how much he'll be missed. Canada has lost an important voice. RIP Jack.

Unfortunitly certain people on talk shows and the papers are using this to attack harper, I just can't not understand that for one day they could have kept to remarks about jack and his career and what he meant to canadians, and of course their is the CBC guy that rip harper for mentioning the deaths of 12 canadians killed in the arctic during the same speech. I don't think jack would have liked that.

Well, what did you expect--- you did say CBC that well known bastion of non-partisan broadcasting, biting the hand that threatens to feed them ---- not so well--- in the future

the relevant comment here being "biting the hand that feeds them" conservatives think the media should be in the pocket of the cpc party just as the Global network is...the cbc does what we expect a national non-partisan media to do, journalists are expected to show no preference, every party and it's leader are fair game...when the liberals were in power and went through the sponsorship scandal they were given no preferential treatment, now that the conservatives are in power the conservatives cpc supporters object when the PMO can't control cbc journalists...it would be much better for the cpc if it could sell the cbc to a another corporate supporter like Global so as they can have complete control the media...

The fact that the man has died does not mean I have to get all phony

about it and say nice things about him.

I came on this forum awhile back and said 2 things. One I said he would

not be around much longer because at the time it was evident he was dying

but none of you seemed to be aware of that.

The other is as much as I dislike the topic I stated he had a reputation for

getting into domestic violent fights with his wife near where I lived and so

for me having seen some of them on the street I am not about to wax

poetic about him.

He was a man with a large ego, a nasty mean streak and a raging intolerance of

people who did not share his views. He was rigid and dogmatic and self righteous.

That said he lived, sleeped, breathed politics. He was a privileged socialist

someone who never went without food or shelter and lived an elite lifestyle of an

academic but fancied himself a working man defending the working class.

All that said, I respect the man's right to his political views and his hard work in

rebuilding the NDP party relying heavily on his personality and ego.

Can't stand what he stood for and the way he treated his wives but I respected his

hard work for his constituents and his ability to engage in politics a nasty sport

at the best of times.

Unlike some I am not going to come on here and hero worship him. I do think it

is sad he died before he had a chance to live his role of opposition leader.

He would have loved the job of being chief whiner of the parliament.

Being a man of good health who always biked and exercised his cancer must have been

hard on him. Hopefully he is now in a better place.
