  1. peeves complaining about jingoism, xenophobia, fanaticism, extremism now there's irony...
  2. the only invasion Iceland was by allied forces in WW2...invasions wars today are infrequent, wars today generally arise from border disputes...
  3. you can get hurt doing anything, it comes down to probability...large picture, too small a nail/screw for weight, picture falls, glass breaks slices open leg/ foot...anything is possible, shit happens...my sister-in-law a nurse used to work in the ER she has an endless list of "you won't believe this" stories...
  4. the biggest orifice to ever join this forum, constantly trolls, flames, insults, taunts, lies, I moved him to permanent ignore a couple weeks back and the forum is much nicer place ...
  5. who protects Costa Rica, no one they and they abolished their military and none of it's neighbours have invaded...in fact the biggest military threat to central american states has always been the USA, it has a well established record of invading there... there are a number of countries that the russians and chinese could crush should they wish and the US would do nothing to interfere as nuclear war is the possible end point...but yet the chinese and russia don't invade these countries, the russian's actually cut loose a number of countries from the old USSR, that's hardly typical behaviour of an aggressive state... the country that has invaded more countries than russia or china is the USA...
  6. true but that's common of most radio stations, djs today we have them here as well....we have a station that sets up awkward situations between couples "hi you've just won two tickets to a concert who are you going to take with you" the man/woman names someone other than the BF or GF who already listening in to the conversation... on one occasion a woman discovered her boyfriend was dating her sister, obviously that wasn't going end well...
  7. from what I've read on the issue the radio station cleared it first with it's lawyers, so the radio station knowingly took active part in the deception... firing employes who carried out the deception isn't on the stations behalf isn't ethical...and if the lawyers are correct they broke no laws...
  8. try call the ER next time someone you know gets admitted and see if you can get any pertinent info...mrs wyly was in the ER years ago after a serious auto collision, the ER called me at home and told me mrs wyly had been in accident and to come in, no amount of questions from me could pry any info out as to mrs wyly's condition, they just kept repeating the original request for me to come to the ER...the important point here is they called me and still they would not tell me anything, because they could not verify it was me on the phone...I'm assuming that the rule is the same in the UK, no matter who the caller claims to be they should've refused to give any information...
  9. the nurses weren't really the victims in this prank, the DJs asked for info on a patient and were given it, where is the victim? it wasn't the nurses it was Kate Middleton, it was her confidentiality that was infringed, the nurses shouldn't have supplied the information...that one of the nurses took personal responsibility for the slip up and killed herself wasn't the fault of the DJ's...
  10. yup..you get good, then you get fast, then you get over confident/careless and there goes a drill through your finger, the end of a finger falls off, a nail through the hand...I hate steel studs, they're always looking to bite you ...
  11. dangerous beyond belief...often those garage services are 220, conduit with planks lain over top before back-filling(don't recall the depth required)...put a shovel through a 220 and some unsuspecting person is in for a lot of grief...I've turned away clients who wanted me to cut corners and not follow minimum code, if something goes wrong it's my name that goes on the lawsuit...
  12. that's surprising...maybe something that should be extended to every province...
  13. correct, I had a drill jump off a screw once and went completely through the finger holding the screw... a massive splinter went right through another finger, or the time I missed a weeks work when I amputated the end of my thumb with a knife and all occurred doing minor/simple tasks...a teacher isn't going to get compensation for any of those...I could write a book of all the injuries I've accumulated over the years and mine were minor compared to other people I've known in the business...then there is the tools thing which I posted earlier, I have many thousands of dollars of tools for nearly every situation something you cannot supply to every school... and even then I still need to rent some uncommon tools, and that needs to be factored into the cost of a job as well...
  14. gas-fitters, no one does this without a license and all work is inspected huge potential to kill a lot of people... commercial/industrial -licensed electrical sub contractors are required..same as plumbers without a license you're not getting it done...electrical-residential no reputable building contractor is going to hire non licensed electrical contractors it just doesn't happen, a private homeowner can do their own home wiring but it still requires official inspection...non electricians, DIYs cannot wire anything except their own home...and you're right quality work is done by specialists (sub-contractors)who do it right the first time and do it quickly...the idiots that claim they can do everything are the ones that supply me with abundant work and reality shows like Holmes on Homes with endless source of nightmare scenarios...
  15. I don't what the laws are concerning patient confidentiality in the UK but in Canada those nurses could've been fired for revealing personal patient information to an unknown caller...
  16. what expertise does the principal have in choosing contractors? he's a teacher not a general contractor...working as a general contractor I've gone through a number of sub-contractors, they are not all equal some of them are idiots, some are crooks, some are idiots/crooks ...my experience saves my clients (and myself) money, I know who does good work and gives a fair price, a principal using the yellow pages is gambling, flipping a coin and hoping for the best...
  17. what a fraud! of course you're going to bail for the second time you've selectively edited my post again refusing to acknowledge your obvious bias...in the internet world that's what's known as a "concern troll" - pretending to be objective/unbiased while you anything but...there are only two positions on zionism, for or against ethnic cleansing... those who claim to be in between either don't know anything of the situation or they're lying...I've watched and studied the situation for 50yrs long enough to make an informed opinion, blinded by pro-zionist in my early years I originally supported the Israeli's but blatant racism has put me firmly into the just cause of palestinian rights... run away! run away! the moonlight response to being caught out...
  18. the alternative would wait until there are a number of repairs/alterations to be done and have them done all at once, make sure there is a full days work to make it economical...when my clients call me for 5 minutes work and it takes 2 hours of my day they get billed for 2 hours not 5 minutes, if a contractor has 4 calls per 8hr day like that do expect them to bill out for only 20minutes for the entire day? they'll be bankrupt... there you go see you didn't understand, there are portable sensors to detect hidden electrical wires in walls, pipes as well...opening up the wall is what you'll be doing if you don't check first...I've had very intelligent people make really dumb errors, I'm not saying they're stupid just that we each have our own expertise, don't assume because you may be a genius and expert at your own work that you know everything about other peoples work... sure but it's no guarantee, wires should be 1.5" inches from the stud surface but shit happens sometimes they're not, and many people use too long a screw or nail hitting the wires, and drains can run right under the drywall 1/2" ... 1.5" from stud surface-but if someone decides to use a 2-3" nail or screw then you have a problem
  19. ya, or the time I was called to find the source of wet basement, a wannabe diy electrician drilled a hole in a waste drain to run a wire through it every time the owner flushed the toilet it ran out into the basement...call the right people for the job...I get so much work from DIYs who think they can do everything..."do you know how much an electrician/plumber charges? I'll do it myself"
  20. hanging a picture is no big deal?...how much do you think it would cost to tear open a wall and rerun electrical wires when a nail or screw pierces an electrical wire, does your teacher or janitor just happen to have an electrical sensor in their back pocket?...or when that nail/screw used for hanging picture punctures a water line or drain who pays for the resulting water damage?...before you say that never happens I can assure you it does and often, and I've had the pleasure of repairing and charging for both...that little screw or nail for a picture can result in thousands of dollars of damage, when a janitor or teacher does it the school pays for it, when a contractor makes the error they're responsible for the repairs...so when mrs wyly asked me to hang a shelf in her office I turned her down and told her to call contractor in charge, I'm not risking putting a screw into a wall of a public building that could potentially disrupt or even shut down a multi-multi-million dollar medical facility...
  21. yes someone understands...a pencil sharpener one month, a couple smoke detectors the next month, maybe shelf put up the month after, and for that people want a full time handyman at the school...add up the costs of infrequent service calls compare that to a full time repairman on site...
  22. ahh the balfour declaration what a fantastic plan.... Imperial power divide up a region giving it away to immigrants over the objections of the inhabitants ya that was just a brilliant plan, european zionist movement negotiates with european powers the formation of a jewsih nation in palestine, no one bothered to consult the palestinian inhabitants, ya that was fair ...ya it's the palestinians own fault for not letting the imperial powers give their land away serves them right....oh ya no bias in your stance on the issue ...
  23. nice edit, let's put the part you edited out back in....Moonlight graham-"The video is massively biased against Israel. It's 6 minutes of "Israel has been terrible to Palestinians". No mention of Palestinian rockets or suicide bombers. There I just saved you 6 minutes, Bud you owe me those 6 of my life back. The video is a piece of garbage. " the video was immediately garbage for no mention of palestinian rockets and suicide bombers, but it did mention violence on both sides it didn't dwell on palestinian violence and as it didn't dwell on zionist slaughters/ethnic cleansing either...where was your outrage for the not mentioning organized zionist murder and ethnic cleansing??? why the double standard....are you going to edit out this biased contradiction again It took awhile for me to get past the slanted history I was taught in school "arabs/muslims are evil" but I've a Palestinian supporter for decades...:"lebensraum" is a concept my family saw up close, and I know it when I see it...
  24. don't need them, too expensive, if the super hornet is good enough for the US Navy and Australia they're good enough for us...
