Canada is just begging to be Annexed
ironstone replied to paxamericana's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Weak per capita GDP compared to the US. Our GDP was driven in no small part due to mass immigration and the decade long hiring spree in the public service. About 1 in 4 jobs in Canada are government related. A doubling of the debt. Reckless spending with poor oversight. The number of foodbanks since 2015 has more than tripled, with 2.2 million monthly visits. Homelessness, crime. What can you boast about in the Liberal record since 2015? And please don't respond with 'oh but that was the previous government...this is the NEW government!'. -
Carney’s Wealth Tests the Limits of Canada’s Ethics Laws Our conflict-of-interest rules are no match for a prime minister this financially entangled In theory, Carney can neither know nor direct how his assets are being managed while he remains in office. And an ethics screen bars him from participating in policy decisions affecting firms he’s been associated with, such as Stripe, the multi-billion-dollar fintech giant on whose board he once sat. These safeguards don’t go nearly far enough, counters Conacher. Even as the ethics commissioner, who answers to Parliament, is ultimately in charge of compliance, the day-to-day work of actually policing the ethics screen falls to an official appointed by the prime minister himself. And the blind trust is scarcely blind, as Carney is very aware of his initial holdings. “He knows what stocks he put in it,” said Conacher in a statement posted on the Democracy Watch website last year, “including stock options he will definitely own for years.” And while the ethics commissioner must approve the trustee, the arrangement still leaves Carney with significant influence over the trust’s design, including the choice of trustee and any instructions they receive. “And the trustee is allowed to give regular updates,” Conacher told The Walrus, such as on the trust’s overall net worth, and any gains or losses. More alarming, Conacher says, is how little of the blind trust is visible. A public registry allows Canadians to see that assets exist and how they are classified—not what they are. If the prime minister’s policy choices are working to his advantage, there’s no way to know. To sum up: our system, meant to prevent conflicts, concentrates oversight in officials ultimately tied to the prime minister, while leaving him informed about—and influential over—assets he is supposed to be insulated from. https://thewalrus.ca/carney-wealth-brookfield/

Did you check out the 'Carney-conflict of interest' link yet? 🤨

I'm just going by this list which has been put out by the Canadian government. https://prciec-rpccie.parl.gc.ca/Lists/Declarations/Attachments/43657/Appendix Summary Statement - Annexe Declaration Sommaire.pdf You might want to take a look at it. If I am able to see what companies Carney has shares in....so can Mark Carney. (Lockheed Martin is listed on page 10)

There is a war to see who can more successfully interfere more in Canada between China and India. India still one of the main perpetrators of foreign interference and espionage in Canada, CSIS says https://archive.ph/wMRAe#selection-2161.0-2161.99 China and India can fight it out with little to no pushback from the Liberal government. Carney is in India now looking to sign more deals for Brookfield Canada. At least Carney has the sense not to go there in Mr. Dressup mode.

Thanks for your roundabout way of admitting I'm correct about the Liberal 'under review' tactic. -

If you know anything at all about Prime Minister Carney, know that he has the vast majority of his investments with American companies, including Lockheed Martin. This talk about the F35 purchase being 'under review' is just a tactic to make low information voters in Canada think Carney is standing up to big bad bully Trump. It really does help to drive up his polling numbers. -

I see that the law in NYC was changed in 2017 so mentally ill people had the right to refuse help. So for those that wanted that change in the law, how is THAT not callous indifference to all the mentally ill/homeless people that have died because of it? -
When it comes to politics, I'm a cynic so I believe the most important factor is Carney's shares. And the same goes for all those other companies that are tied to Liberal(Carney) policies, nuclear reactors, heat pumps, EV charging stations, carbon capture, and god knows what else.

That's a rather typical leftist kind of response, just throw money at problems and when that often fails, just throw even more money into it. I would rather have smart, targeted spending instead of the reckless kind we've had for over 10 years now. Since this government is clearly going to keep upping the spending, where is that money going to come from? More printing and borrowing, higher taxes? -

Our weak economy and problems in other areas are not indications that we are 'fine'. And those problems are not the fault of the US either, they are largely self inflicted. -

So we should just continue to pour money into foreign aid while we have serious problems of our own to deal with? Homelessness, food banks, health care in crisis, and we have brought in millions of newcomers in a very short time. -

No, Canada is it's own worst enemy with it's incompetent, corrupt government. I admit that this incompetent, corrupt government is popular with most Canadians though. -
Yet again, F35's have performed very well in the recent operations against Iran. It's clearly a very capable aircraft. Stealth is a huge asset. I'm no expert on aviation matters, but based on what I've read, the F35 is the better plane. And Mark Carney has shares in Lockheed Martin.....

For decades, Western nations have poured hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars into many nations as foreign aid. Canada sends out lot's of money to every conceivable kinds of projects. Pick a country, any country. https://w05.international.gc.ca/projectbrowser-banqueprojets/filter-filtre?lang=eng&sc=72010 -
That is pathetic. Canada already takes in more people from India than any other country by a wide margin. If this trend continues, Canada will become India 2.0. And all signs point to this trend continuing with this Liberal government.

Border Patrol Kills Blind Refugee

It is tragic what happened to this man, there's no denying that. As for the previous altercation, how are cops supposed to react when someone is threatening them with an object? They don't know his history and I'm guessing there are very few English/Burmese interpreters around. Your side is the one that always goes on about defunding the police, which will make things even worse. You are demanding quite a lot from the West when it comes to refugees and what kind of care they are expected to get. This guy would probably have been better off in countries that were more suitable, like Thailand or Malaysia. -
That's debatable since one must keep in mind that they have been sponsoring terrorism all over the region which has caused an awful lot of deaths.

Trump just Effed Carney Royally LOL
ironstone replied to CdnFox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm a bit surprised that Carney has come out in support of this military action. He is going to get some pushback from his supporters and the media will have to try and frame the whole thing as a win for Carney. -

They did release him and he was free to go where he wanted. There was likely an issue with the language barrier as this man didn't speak English but did have a previous altercation with law enforcement in which two officers were injured. Was it acceptable for Mamdani to let all those people freeze or does he get a complete pass for his inaction? -

I'm guessing you didn't bat an eye when at least 16 other people froze to death in Mamdani's city very recently. -
