Teachers on a pension can return to work substituting but are limited, if they go over that limit it would affect their pension. BTW, a substitute teacher on a long term contract e.g. maternity leave sub gets about $350.00 per day. On call substitutes get less than that. I'm not allowed to work for the same company I get my pension from but I could work elsewhere.

AG Draft Report: G8 Funding Lacked Transparency
scribblet replied to guyser's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
But - they didn't spend a billion at all, is amount going to be used continuously even though it's wrong. Senator Céline Hervieux-Payette says it was 509.90 million. I think we all agree it was too much.. did the French have both a G8 and a G20 for their 30 million ? I also understand that the French used their military as well as security personnel, maybe next time Canada will do that, maybe we should've done it. Having said that, we know if Harper had authorized the use of military he would have been pilloried for 'soldiers on the streets' and all, even if it did save money. -

$127 Million cut from reservation housing

Maybe we need another Chief clarence Louie http://www.wawataynews.ca/archive/all/2009/11/18/Bring-back-hard-work-Chief-Clarence-Louie_18559 and http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2011/06/04/kevin-libin-alberta-bands-challenge-too-many-chiefs-not-enough-indians/ Maybe we should revisit Chretien's paper on doing away with the Indian act. -
Her behaviour was inexcusable but her professors must be happy LOL What she is saying is anyone who voted for Harper or his party should not have their say, she's trying to disenfranchise 6 million people. she's also advocating with her "arab spring" unelected left wing overthrow of our elected government.

Of course they are, they are afraid that a conservative gov't might freeze wages or make other cutbacks, cutting into the union ranks. They are protecting themselves and teacher pay scales but not the kids or anything to do with the public interest. The interesting thing is that McGuinty has allready said he will freeze their wages when their contract is up next year - but then - maybe they expect a secret, hidden raise as he did with other unions. So, who is running things here, the gov't elected by the voters or the big unions.

What kind of BS is this and what do the teachers tell their civic class why they are absent.. hmmm we can't be in the classroom because we are practicing partisan politics instead of teaching. Unions are supposed to be advocates for teachers in the work place, not advocating for a political party. I've read that this will cost around $3 million, imagine how many inner city school programs that would fund.. http://www.newstalk1010.com/News/localnews/blogentry.aspx?BlogEntryID=10247146 cont. it's a protectionist racket  http://www.ottawasun.com/comment/columnists/christina_blizzard/2011/04/06/17902926.html

Exactly, they had lots of start up money and as they are supposed to be so popular surely they can find corporate sponsors.

You got that right, sheez, it says: the Prime Minister is forbidden from going on commercial flights for security reasons, and, he's reimbursing the cost of the tickets and the cost of a commercial flight... Nothing else to bitch about I guess.

Comedian Titus Hints at Assassinating Palin

I don't see how being a comedian excuses someone from making threats ! -
What drives people to such hate which drives them to make such inappropriate comments. CTV Newsnet showed an interview with her where she ranted that "Canadians should go on civil disobedience" so she really is advocating more than a peaceful protest. Really, she doesn't care about democracy and actual election results at all, only what she believes in is right
-
Huh !!! Did you know she did an interview with John Tory on CFRB where he asked her if she ever discussed her view with any of the Senators et al.. guess what - she said No, cos she thought she would be fired - she's a coward, she waited until the end of her term to publicly express her views, she's an idiot not deserving of anything.

Are you not honest all the time

Did she not take an oath when taking on the position, not to engage in such activities? Where are her moral values, not to mention she waited until the end of her term so didn't lose much.

Anyone advocating an 'Arab/Canadian spring' appears to be advocating unrest and violent uprising in Canada, but against what, a democratically elected government? She seems to be completely lacking in her understanding of what the uprisings are about in the M.E. and has complete disrespect for democracy, Parliament and her peers. She should have to pay back whatever it cost for the program she was enrolled in. She should have a chat with that ABC corresponden who was viciously assaulted http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/04/28/60minutes/main20058368.shtml?tag=cbsContent;cbsCarousel

Of course there was no real contempt, the vote repudiated that one, it was simply an opposition attempt to grab power and look where it got them. I don't consider Harper to be left wing, he has been governing more from the centre than anything, sometimes I wish he were a bit more conservative in his approach. Her little protest was just part of an orchestrated attempt by the radical left to usurp a democratically elected government or as one blogger put it, Pathological Narcissism. -
-
I guess she is so muddleheaded she doesn't understand that Harper has a majority so her chance to 'stop' him will come around in about 4 years, either that or she had something else in mind. What does she mean by a a Canadian or Arab spring, does she want violet protests on the street, does she mean that we should no longer respect our democracy - I sure don't understand why some people think she's some kind of heroine as she appears to be advocating violence.

Canada to create Military Bases Abroad
scribblet replied to Smallc's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
IMO the concept is to have logistics options on standby rather than have to reinvent them every time an emergency arises. Logistics in this scheme would include aircraft servicing and refueling arrangements, some supplies and a small crew of custodians, as I understand the proposals. It makes sense trying to have facilities in place for moving quickly in the event that the Canadian military needs to deploy quickly in a war or natural disaster. We got stung when United Arab Emirates revoked landing rights there and now it looks like they're trying to establish a new permanent presence in strategic locations so we can deploy without first negotiating landing rights or having to use facilities belonging to other countries. This will build on Canada's increasing economic and military strength and should not cost a great deal. I wonder why the said we have no such facilities now, and why tey overlooked the NATO base at Geilenkirchen (GK. -
Do you have a link to support your post re: Nakba ? You must be trolling as we know that Israel is allready a democracy which has Arabs as members of the Knesset, so ....
