  1. It seems this issue is giving the PCs much traction and donations, if McGuinty wants a majority he'd better he's got some 'splaining to do. Good piece here on this issue, http://www.lfpress.com/comment/columnists/michael_dentandt/2011/09/08/18659586.html
  2. IMO the voters are inured to McGuinty's lies and deceit or they simply don't care, if re-elected he will take it as a mandate to continue lying.
  3. Sounds like the military police have them, not a pretty picture.
  4. Lots of media are reporting on it, why wouldn't they, she's well known and no reason why she shouldn't run.
  5. Hudak's plan is no where near what McGuinty is proposing, it's for English as a second language and capped at $400.00 I doubt that anyone would be too upset if McGuinty capped his proposal at the same amount. There are a lot of skilled Ontario workers who are collecting EI right now, from all walks of life who could do with we employment assistant programs, so if McGuinty wants to do that, it should be for ALL people. We should not be creating a society that rewards one group while putting another at a disadvantage.
  6. Agreed, McGuinty is attempting to change the narrative, by smearing Hudak, this is an opportunity for a great ad. I'd donate to that one.
  7. Will this divisive policy be McGuinty`s downfall, John Torie`s voucher proposal was called divisive and contributed to his downfall. I`m predicting a minority Liberal gov`t.
  8. This tax credit is discriminatory, I wonder if it would survive a charter challenge, it could also be a game changer unless McGuinty backtracks now. Hey, want 10 grand, just don't hire the native-born Canadian.
  9. I bet Bob Rae is crying in his beer, or salivating with thoughts of uniting the left and becoming their god-father. Remember his rational for leaving the NDP and becoming a born again Liberal. "Oh, I have matured and finally seen the light", (sure). He saw the switch as the only way to advance his ambitious agenda at that time, but now, he finds himself leading a dysfunctional third party with no way to fulfill his ambitions. On the other hand,I can see him embracing illusions of grandeur as the king of the unite the left cause. Time will tell. Whoever finally replaces Jack as the PM -in-waiting, must have impeccable credentials as a federalist, otherwise the party is doomed to opposition status until they find someone who has them. Any party with pretensions to govern must have a functionally bilingual leader, someone at ease in either language. It would help their case if the next chosen leader comes from Ontario or Quebec close to the NDP’s centre of mass. Which lets out Olivia Chow as I'm pretty sure she doesn't speak French.
  10. The total cost for the G8 & G20 was around $664-million, not a billion - too high I agree, but that's old news isn't it, nothing like beating a dead horse. Not to mention we do have to have these meetings, and considering the world problems right now, it might be a good idea if they met more often, it can be done cheaper with fewer attendees. Maybe on an island somewhere... I agree with not spending the money on an International Expo, on one hand people want the gov't to spend less, on the other hand they want him to spend more, he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't, and as far as some people go, nothing he does would be right anyway. If you are really worried about spending, how much does a state funeral for a not-normally-eligible opposition leader cost Canadian taxpayers, would you question that one - bet not.
  11. I haven't read all the comments, but if you want low, read these from so called 'progressives' - pretty damn sick http://mooseandsquirrel.ca/2011/08/22/13:28/rip-jack-layton-if-your-supporters-will-let-you/
  12. People like this: http://mooseandsquirrel.ca/2011/08/22/13:28/rip-jack-layton-if-your-supporters-will-let-you/ Of course decent people will say nice things, but there's a difference between showing respect/condolences, and deifying someone.
  13. I have to agree she has a point, as sad as it is for one so young to die like that, the media seem to be almost deifying him. Maybe later they will examine his politics/policies, as if he and his party ever came to the PMO, Canada would likely be in a financial mess. Social engineering would be rampant and costs to taxpayers would spiral out of control. A good politician but a deity or martyr he is not.
  14. RIP Jack, sad and too young.
  15. I'm not clear on Hudak's policies, but there's no way I could vote for McGuinty, after all his broken promises etc. I know that a politician can't always follow through, global financial problems and so on, but McGuinty takes the cake... One thing that bothers me about McGuinty is his eco projects, in particular wind turbines. I'm not affected by them personally but am very concerned about the health affects and the way he's taken away the rights of municipalities to have any say in the matter. I listened to an interview with the Pres. of Wind Concerns Ontario, it was very enlightening, in particular the part about what the uncovered with the FOI... http://windconcernsontario.wordpress.com/ http://windconcernsontario.wordpress.com/2011/08/18/ontario-liberal-reaction-to-wind-concerns-ontario-launching-windyleaks-com/\
  16. Do you have a source or a link for that - thanks
  17. I have relatives in the U.K. including two cops... If you think this is a class thing you are wrong and, maybe you are not aware of the welfare system in Britain, where no one need to go hungry or go without shelter. The State guarantees a minimum living standard which is the envy of much of the world - hence the extreme efforts many make to illegally enter the country. The problem is not of food and shelter, but a sense of what young people feel is their entitlement and the amount of effort, or lack thereof, they are prepared to expend to get it. There are also other problems excessive, uncontrolled immigration in recent years, which Britain is unable to absorb and provide employment for. The rioting has absolutely nothing to do with deprivation and far more to do with greed, mainly thanks to 'Human Rights' legislation and a feeling that the police are not able, or won’t do anything, and that the courts are afraid to act. This, because they know that they can appeal a sentence (paid for by the State) and the army of lawyers are willing to take the money and act. Maybe now, these riots will act as a catalyst to help redress the balance in favour of the hard working taxpaying majority. ( who fund those nonsense in the first place)
  18. There's a good article here on the entitlement mentality - heck Britain has been a welfare state for years, national health care, pensions, national housing etc. etc. seems like it's not enough, as the looters in designer T-shirts with expensive mobile phones wanted free stuff. That's all it was, nothing more, and it was contagious as it spread. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/opinion/less-political-rebellion-more-mollycoddled-mob/story-e6frg6zo-1226111939883
  19. This pretty much sums it up if you want to be bothered reading it. I've been reading some British forums, the great majority believe that these are not anti poverty protests or anywhere near, they are simply opportunistic uneducated thugs. Years of liberal dogma have spawned a generation of amoral, uneducated, welfare dependent, brutalised youngsters http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2024284/UK-riots-2011-Liberal-dogma-spawned-generation-brutalised-youths.html Not only in London, but last year in Sweden http://www.somaliaonline.com/community/showthread.php/14855-Little-Mogadishu-in-Sweden-Riots
  20. Actually he's right, the neighbourhood hit first is known as little Mogadishu, and if you watch BBC news, which I have been doing, the criminals are, mainly non white, not all, but in the main. Some like to play it as a multi-racial, equal-opportunity riot though, not sure about Manchester and the other areas where it's spreading to, it's contagious. This is not an 'anti-poverty' revolution, it's about young people brought up in home with no father, no moral grounding who have been brought up knowing nothing but the dole and public housing. I am reassured by some comments though that the spreading riots have nothing to do with utterly worthless young males who clearly have nothing to offer the nation but bestial violence It's time the police started using more force to protect the innocent victims. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3742163/Do-you-know-a-riot-yob.html
  21. Just finished watching BBC news, it's spreading to Manchester and elsewhere. It's about time they took a harder stance it's time for water canons and rubber bullets, can't believe they are letting it go on. Nothing like free flat screens while organizing petrol bombs via your Blackberry.
  22. Too much immigration is not a bad thing but should be tied to jobs and Canada's needs. In bad times and unemployment why should we continue to bring in people who won't be able to find jobs. Canada cannot take in everyone, nor can the U.K. and what is happening in the U.K. now speaks to the issue of a too lax immigration policy.
  23. I'm pretty sure that was sarcasm It's spreading, they are planning ahead with petrol bombs at the ready... yup - silly youth, they just need more community centres. http://thewestlondoner.wordpress.com/2011/08/07/breaking-riots-in-enfield-edmonton-walthamsto-brixton/
  24. "selling Palestinian body parts" oh sure, it's right up there with the blood libel thing and a few other good pieces of anti semetic propaganda.
  25. From what I've read on a couple of U.K. sites, the shooting sparked it, I've read that these louts are called NEEFs (?) uneducated louts who can't read or write, therefore are unemployable, if they want to work that is. It also seems that the police didn't act quickly enough, don't know about that, but in a racially charged area such as this one, I would bet that had they moved faster, they would be accused of racism. Damned if they do and damned if they don't. Spending cuts are only just starting so austerity programs cannot be blamed on this, it's thugs and louts looking for an excuse to cause trouble. Read the link in the first post about Mark Duggan. and a bit more info here http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/World/2011/08/06/18520321.html
