Why do the Harper Conservatives dislike students?
scribblet replied to Harry's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't know the whole story, but I have reason to believe that some of these people are just 'plants', it's more than likely that they are known to the organizers. -
LOL < snort > Actually, I don't see how they can disallow a person with dementia from voting just as trying to disallow a mentally challenged person to vote would be seen as against their civil rights etc. What they might be able to do is not allow the guardian/caregiver to hold the pencil and vote for them. The individual must make the mark on their own.

Except that no proof is required, anyone can say yes, and get to vote. I believe proof is required by enumerators who go door to door. I used to know a guy about 18 years ago who had the balls to go into a polling area in Scarborough and say loudly, is there anyone here who is not a Canadian Citizen... you'd be surprised how many actually left. LOL I'm not sure but I believe we have the right to challenge someone...

Is Stephen Harper for Private HealthCare or Not?
scribblet replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Liberals have been caught lying, they don't like it, I would like to see the Tories come back with an ad about that, and stressing that the only gov't to cut health care spending was the Liberals. Harper has increased it and has committed to the 6% and more beyond 2014, but he needs to stress the fact that he has no intentions of 'gutting health care'. Of course health care was gutted by the provinces after the Liberals cut transfer payments. I believe Harper doesn't have a problem with private health care alongside our current system, neither do I, we should have a choice. -
Homes with more than one sign have either people who support different parties, or - they just want tomato stakes LOL During the previous election, the incumbent was a conservative so his sign rightly said re-elect, but the Liberal candidate's also said re-elect, because he had been the MP before the conservative beat him. They called E.C. but nothing was done.

All of them of course, they don't have an option of voting for another constituency, they chose to vote there. I believe that riding was a close call which explains the Liberals need for a 'vote mob' and the need to try and rig the vote. The fact that special election ballots are blank requiring the name to be written in, which explains the presence of Liberal pamphlets in the poll, The whole thing stinks, but cannot be reversed, the least that can be done is a full audit of the procedures and votes. Special ballots require registration and two pieces of I.D., I'd like to know that all rules where followed and there is no chance they can vote again, when they go home. They will be home in time for the election, so there was really no need for such a poll. -
Harper's lengthy list of failures..a small sampling

Liberals think they can do no wrong, and conservatives think the Liberals will lie and raise our taxes. The latter is correct. LOL -

Rise up Rise up ( and it ain't in his boudoir) LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evjv06AUyhY&feature=player_embedded -
As of now, I feel that the CPC is the best party for Canada, especially when it comes to the Bloc who would be part of any coalition. I don't believe the CPC is going to destroy anything, most of that is just fear mongeriing etc. You pick a party which best represents you, I doubt any one party would fit 100%, I could never, vote NDP, even if it meant blocking someone I didn't want. Liberal is a possibility depending, and this isn't a 'depending' situation.

Maybe he's really referring to what goes on on in his boudoir LOL

Well, it sure looks as if this was a set up by the opposition, there was no need for a special poll http://pragmatictory.blogspot.com/2011/04/busy-university-of-guelph-may-2nd-exam.html#comment-form -

It was and still is apparently earth shattering to the media and posters in forums who seem to think it's okay to do that. -
I don't understand how you can compromise your beliefs and principles by voting for another party other than the one you believe in.
-
I think that latest health care attack ad will work against them as surely most people know that the only party ever to cut health care was the Liberals... although on some places it's evident that some less informed far left people do buy into the paranoia about health care. The ad is much on the line of - soldiers in our streets - it's a lie and a gross distortion. Systematically ? I wonder if Ignatieff actually knows about his party's successful attempt to shut down two similar polls at the U. of T. Rise up I say - Rise Up

I believe her, but it's not fraud. If a handicapped person needs someone to help them vote, the caregiver/attendant just has to swear an oath and can go into the booth with them (or help at the mobile poll). All people are entitled to a vote, only problem is when it is someone with dementia or mentally challenged, they aren't making their own decision, the caregiver does the voting, so in reality they get two votes.. can't deny anyone a vote. It would be fraud if this was being done without the DRO's knowledge and not swearing the oath, but the DRO should be with the poll.... -

Actually, highly unlikely. Nursing homes are given special consideration and can have a mobile poll if needed. The mobile poll goes out to the nursing homes and to the patients. -
By far the best comment I have ever seen on the CBC

The opposition could not give her the portfolio, that was Harper, you know that, before allegations of wrong doing. Stéphane Dion called for her resignation claiming she endangered his life by announcing his plan to visit a provincial reconstruction team in Kandahar. ( I kid you not) http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2008/01/16/dion-afghanistan.html?sms_ss=twitter&at_xt=4da91b241cc85a0c,0 Harper defended her for some time, but caved in, in hind sight he should've only suspended her. Her weepy interview didn't go over well with me or many people I think. She's done now IMO. If Guergis should be slamming anyone, it's the media, in particular the Star - a real case study of ethics in journalism, or lack thereof.

Nope, it's correct, and the rot is within E.C. There may be allowances for 'special polls' but they have to be pre-authorized, this one clearly was not. The new policy is good, it's upholding democracy, there was no need for a special poll, there are 4 voting days, you can mail, or you can go to the returning office and vote there, any day.... This was a put up job with 'mob votes', the R.O. needs to be investigated, along with E.C. and the officials for not doing their jobs at the poll. Judging from the nefarious activities at the poll, I would be surprised if the legitimate steps ensuring no double voting have been taken. There is no credibility from that area. Sona may have reached for the ballot box but didn't take it, that was wrong, but that's all that was wrong. If you can't see how this puts a stain on the credibility of our voting process, I can't help you there. -
We have a traitor in our midst - Harper

The Returning Officer should have respected E.C. rules, not just in allowing such a poll in the first place but allowing nefarious activities within the poll e.g. Liberal pamphlets, no scrutineer allowed and so on. The R.O. was the one undermining our democracy here, not those who were incredibly frustrated that such a illegal activities should be allowed. Attempting to portray this as the Conservates undermining the vote and 'disliking students' is incredible, and irresponsible to say the least, but I guess that's the left's type of politics. Where all those students going to be in residence on May 2nd - bet not, and with such irregularities going on, who's to say they won't manage to vote again when they go home! Soona et al must have been incredibly frustrated at such flagrant disrespect of our democracy and EC rules. Given the troubles the Tories have had with EC in past years e,g, the lawsuits, Gestapo-like raids on party offices,, withholding of refunds, you'd think people would get it; get the fact that EC is, like the CBC, a campaign team opposing the CPC. Packed with Chretien's cronies and Harper-haters, you can bet that EC has an unwritten mission statement to: conduct federal elections and by-elections, in a manner prejudicial to the CPC. In other words, the Tories will be held to a higher standard of compliance than the others, and rules will be applied to favour the others or to their disadvantage. That is what we should expect from Elections Canada led by Marc Meyrand as you look to his decision in favour of the Liberals on a similar matter in 2006. Both EC and the Guelph R.O. should be investigated. -

First off, Soona has gone, and they did send a lawyer's letter. Secondly what we need is an investigation into how a Returning Officer was able to supply all the necessary equipment for an illegal poll having no prior authorization. How did she get the ballots ahead of the regular advanced polls and how will she account for them. (It's early for an RO to have them all) if there was no authorization from EC how was she able to get them. We also need an investigation into this 'mob vote' and how they persuaded an RO to be complicit in this, How many of the students that voted that day will be residing on campus on May 2 (not too many I bet) What do they have in place to ensure they don't vote again when they go home. Why was partisan election material was present at the poll. E.C. needs to be investigated !!! The opposition is ranting about this and wants an investigation into something that they (Liberals) put the boots to in Toronto in 2006 !! -

How about some truth here, the directive did not come from the PMO, but if you have proof to the contrary please provide it. No, everyone does not know why this happened, it's only your biased misguided misinformed, opinion. Soona should not have grabbed the ballot box, but he knew at that time that this was an unauthorized poll (BTW what part of that don't you understand)and that there where other irregularities such as Liberals handing out literature to voters and so on. The whole thing was illegal, yet even though EC supported a similar Liberal request a few years ago, they upheld this illegal polling station.
