Well here is one of the more fundamental truths about the left versus the right as we know it today. The predominant feature of the left is socialistic viewpoints. Often drifting into actual socialism but I'm using the term socialistic to include left of center moderates who may not be part of the woke Revolution. But at the end of the day it's all about elevating society's needs and reducing the individuals rights. For the lefts policies to work they absolutely have to have government control over society, and the more socialistic they want to be the more they have to exercise that control. If you want everybody following the same rules and living their lives the same way and focused on doing the same things for the betterment of society, then you must control what they do and remove the individual self-determination. The more left you go the more you need to do that. Whereas the right can exist with virtually no government interference in people's rights or decisions, the government is there to protect or enforce individual rights and because everybody's individual rights are enforced society finds its own path and tends to flourish. So of course Hitler was more socialistic. He was absolutely prepared to set aside individual rights at the drop of a hat if he felt it benefited the society as a whole as far as his vision as of what the society should be like and what is goals should be. He controlled people, he controlled business, he controlled the agenda. None of this is controversial or difficult to prove and this is the inevitable result of strong left-wing governments

Now you could argue about the definition of socialism, and because there's some room there for different opinions you might possibly be able to make an intelligent argument to say that where they were socialistic or left-wing but they weren't actually socialists because this and that, I think that would be a hard argument to make but you could make it. not sure what your point is. Canada is a relatively socialistic country and does not go out of its way to guarantee personal rights the same way as they do in the united states for example. It was a hell of a lot better than what they had before it, which was basically nothing. And yes the government absolutely can pass whatever laws it wants to stomp on your rights. They could literally pass a law tomorrow that says "Everything AdelQraft owns belongs to the gov't" and take all your stuff. Now the night was standing claws isn't unlimited. It only applies to the charter of rights and freedoms. They couldn't, for example, change the constitution to say that governments will only be elected once every 100 years without going through a proper constitutional process with the 7/50 law But yes this is Canada, you basically have very very limited personal rights. The next guy might turn out to be very smart and be able to appeal to all of the things trump did but put a lot more polish on the package and appeal to an even wider base. The problem with the left whether it's in Canada or the united states is that they tend to look for a white knight. They want the shining armor and the white horse and this person will just ride in and through sheer personality will win the election for them. But especially right now with the people of America and even Canada are really wanting is policy. Competency. A solid plan. A path forward that leads to real prosperity. The left should not be asking who can beat the next trump. The left should be asking what can they offer and put on the table that Americans will want more than anything else and then they can start talking about who can sell that

The fact is there's only two things we can do about climate change unless the big boys (china and india) are going to get serious. The first is equip Canadians to adapt. Climate change will have some benefits and some major problems for canada - maximize the first and minimize the second by deploying solutions that address them. The second is to develop technology that can be used anywhere in the world that's cheaper and more efficient than current polluting technology. If we develop a new affordable battery that can store power the way a gas tank stores gas then this fight is OVER - we can beat climate change overnight. If we develop new nuclear tech that's clean and affordable, or plasma fusion tech, etc etc Then we can change entire countries that are serious polluters and make a real difference. Imagine being such a hypocrite that you pretend to care about climate change while also pretending you can some how get rid of it if Canada just taxes itself hard enough 😏
