Look at the extensive history of mining outfits playing Australia and Canada off against each other. And on the subject of aluminum, gotta point out to the whiners over the failed Northern Gateway that the town council of Kitimat - a town founded by the biggest environmental disaster in Canada - was against being an oil export terminal. Ironic isn't it? Might be biased living along a major river they can turn on and off....

You must be thrilled that it was JUSTIN TRUDEAU that saved it from the evil NDP. And that Washington State refineries are the main beneficiary. How if there's a break and a spill WE clean it up for them and maybe recover the costs that they'll just snap a finger an up the price of gas to recover. oh the greatness of our free enterprise capitalist system... totally faultless forever without blame, beholden to all.

Imagine how desperate one must be to point out negative things about Vancouver Island.... imagine the horror of living in Fanny Bay, Duncan, Courtney/Comox. Parksville or Tofino....so much inconvenience to get back to Cement City (Big Smoke)

Yet people will argue anything along the same line of reasonings: because some people don't plug their hybrids in, hybrids are stupid and I won't buy one... -
Israel Orders Evacuation of North Gaza
herbie replied to Rebound's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
But, but, but it's impossible to move a whole what, 20 kms in only 24 hours ! The people are so poor and downtrodden they can't even afford shoes.... -
They have nowhere to go because EGYPT closed it's border out of Gaza too. Are you f*cking stupid enough to believe Israel is going to allow them in less than a week after Hamas attacked them? You're more concerned about Palestinians than the murderous Hamas chickenshits that are using the people they claim to represent as human shields.

Oh FFS it's long done and over and you're still quoting the utter BS that Enbridge spit out. There WAS no support from people in BC along the route other than those that stood to personally gain from construction along the way. You could drive from Princc George to Kitimat and see No Enbridge signs on almost every other property asides from ONE pro sign on private property and one billboard in Smithers that got taken down when the town council voted against the line. And it wasn't any Hereditary Chiefs it was every Band around that was opposed in the end. And fireworks went off all over in celebration when the final ruling and the tanker ban got announced. Those lying f*ckwads ran TV ads showing no islands near the Douglas Channel, held public meetings with strategically chopped off maps in my town claiming it didn't come near the lake, when it came within 100m of it on a strategic creek, and handed out 'bribe' money as community grants in every town along the way. BC Premier Christie Clark offered five conditions to get support even though that was a great political risk and Alberta wouldn't even accept that. Don't pretend you know shit about how it went down, I live here and the anti-Enbridge handouts were printed in MY printshop, by a single local activist with her own credit card I must add. Pretend and convince yourselves that Trudeau stopped it all you want, WE DID. Every citizen along the route and who cares about the BC Coast. It didn't happen and it's never going to happen. So STFU and stop the snivelling over spilled milk. As I pointed out, gripe about the USA not buying enough, I'm sorry AB is f*cked by geography but the ROC is in no way obligated to assume all the risks with no reward.

Cars; the Glory of the Malaise Era

1975 Impala 3 week loaner, worst POS I ever saw, heavy, slow, crappy brakes, shitty wipers, no rear defrost, slapped together 5 minutes before quitting time on a Friday. 1979 Dodge Omni 024, take a VW rabbit with a flashier body that ructs clean through the hood in just over a year, carb it with something DeSoto left in the parts bin so it stall on a hard left, mess up the shift points... 1984 Kcar, another 3 month loaner. Slow, ugly as sin. Got you from A to B, but that's about it.1980 1980 Bronco, rust bucket, what falls off today? Fish the tailgate glass back in every week or so, weld the capt chairs back in 1980 F150 "fleet" models at work... so ya want a radio? here's dusty old AM radio in the factory corner... all of them bent the frame right behind the cab carrying equipment off road to radio sites.... Those were the days alright. No real gripes over the Civics, Corollas, or Dodge (Mistubishi) D50 i owned of that era. -

Move up to northern or central BC. Don't use as much salt, it's usually too cold to be useful, but she live in Prince George. I saw a snowplow there once. Your car will rust just sitting there door sill deep in snow while you're in WalMart. Both her Escape and the Saturn Vue are 2005s, the Ford's fared much much worse. -
Went to school and learned that. Also learned that what was is not what always will be. Unlike some conservatives that didn't learn and think everything must stay the same. As my Grandfather could see 60 years ago and too many Canadians still can't. An audience that has trouble accepting facts. Like thinking a tanker ban stopped oil exports. How do you think TMX will export oil, by plane? Or that the Northern Gateway wasn't almost unanimously condemned by all the towns and Bands in the area PLUS the BC Gov't (not NDP then) at the time. And as someone else pointed out "Alberta" doesn't pay shit toward transfer payments, we all pay the same federal income tax and it's the same amount in BC. AB or NS. Docked right off your cheque - gone - pretending you have some claim to it is only exceeded by the delusional claim Alberta does. We're taking a big financial risk and a lot of heat over LNG with no assured market and LNG's just a temporary transitional energy source too. Ten years too late.

Something else Righties and Lefties agree on
herbie replied to NYLefty's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The kids were used to fishing with 2000 others at Catholic Summer Camp in 80 degree water for the one fish left alive in there. They were shocked by all the wildlife that lived where the ground wasn't solid cement... -

A friend from southern California visited once and I took him and his 8 and 10 yr old boys out fishing. They were amazed, they'd never seen so many eagles in one place. One even snagged a fish as the kid was reeling it in. Heard many tales from people here about eagles snatching cats, goats and chihuahuas out of their backyards. I believe them as much as their tales about their F350 4x4s that get 30 mpg.... -
OMG the whole world is trying to wean itself of oil, and you're going to blame Ottawa. And pull a Danielle Smith and claim the Feds are trying to take something away from them. You know that back in the 1980s Alberta demanded world prices for oil and they got it. So now they pay more for it, just like the ROC. Didn't believe that it would turn out it was cheaper to ship Saudi oil to the East coast than it was to build pipelines. Still don't want to believe it's not going to be the forever source of energy/ Want to believe Justin screwed them over pipelines even though TMX was ready to abandon it and he was the one who baled it out..... Shall I go on? Or should we not even mention other uses for Alberta oil and ignore the companies that are adopting many right there in Alberta? Or make you a map that shows their market is SOUTH and they should be griping the USA isn't buying more? You do know I'm talking about Alberta separatists and not the people of Alberta, eh? My family come from Alberta, I have souvenir stock certificates from defunct Alberta oil companies my Grandpa bought in the early years. Have lots of friends in The Pass that aren't snivelling that the glory days of coal mining are long gone. Their kids even made good money on all the wind farms there without getting lung cancer. My grandson has his choice of jobs there and like many of his friends has zero interest in working the oil fields. It's a crying shame that so many people's vision for their country is still in shipping out raw resources. My Grampa and his friends used to discuss that in the early 1960s. Then again, they were all immigrants that came to this country because they saw possibilities and opportunities.

Solution: US Federal VAT, Consumption tax
herbie replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
You forget that the only word that scares Americans more than "socialist" is "tax". About the only truly bipartisan fact. But in spite of being shown ways to implement and make it fair by every other country on the planet, just like national health, they won't shut up and listen. Just keep blabbing the its a tax, a tax, a tax...aaauuuugghhhheeeee! ' -
Sounds like your idea of "success" is measured by how many shiny things you own. And how loud you gripe that someone else is stopping you from owning even more. Nor the hypocrisy of committing 'socialist' acts or even questioning them (medicare, ICBC, Autoplan, ALR, Greenspace etc) all the while portraying it the evil enemy.

Biden Gains Multinational Support for Israel
herbie replied to Rebound's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Sure. The EU and as I said, the nations all one by one already voiced their support. So he manged to get a mere handful to jointly state it again, whoopee! Did any also call out the m9rons who are rallying to support the Palestinians at this most inappropriate time? Sorry to question your sense of national importance. -
That BBC is now reporting the terrorists did in fact outright murder children in their attack, I'd give that some credibility over something posted on the Net that people can't check out themselves. I regret the miserable live of the average Palestinian, but 76 years of shouting "Death to Israel" and non stop terrorist attacks draws very little sympathy for them. Do themselves a favour and kill their own Hamas leaders instead.

Ah yes, the dreaded NDP, the Diet Pepsi of socialism. Reminds me of the old Social Credit under WAC Bennet who nationalized the railway, the ferries and BC Electric to 'keep the socialist hordes from the gates of Victoria". And the tourists here in their $150,000 motor homes telling us how Rachel Notley had made life unbearable in Alberta.

Biden Gains Multinational Support for Israel
herbie replied to Rebound's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
You act like that's a real accomplishment. Even though every one of those leaders issued similar statements of support for Israel before Biden could pick up the phone. Similarly, if Trump was in office, he would've bragged and tweeted about doing the same thing long before anything could reach the printing presses. -
Amazing how one's mind is so stubbornly set, it's impossible to draw anything but the wrong conclusion from any fact given in evidence. Blaming Egypt? There is an anti-Trudeau farm and it is based in Egypt, that's all it says. Most likely because it;s cheaper than basing it in Canada, just as basing shit in Mumbai is. No worse than major Canadian companies and every scammer on the planet basing their customer service 100% where no one speaks intelligible English. You modem is infection give us credit card now police will come for you...

That the GOP has not already informed Trump the will not accept his nomination indicates the NATO allies should be preparing a possible dose of the USA's own medicine with a 'regime change'.
