Ontario needs to invest in EVs as a realistic Option.
herbie replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Oh FFS learn some chemistry. Heavy means dense and toxic. LEAD in your current car battery is a toxic heavy metal. Mercury in ancient button batteries was a toxic heavy metal. Chrome on an old bumper is a heavy metal. Lithium is the lightest metal there is and probably someone you know swallows it every day, Cobalt you don't grind up and breathe particles every day, you take minor precautions handling it every day, but you body requires some to function. As with the copper. As for LEDs what 'heavy metal' is used in those? In any meaningful quantity that could be recycled if even possible. Stop reaching for straws to grasp, toss us a legit reason not to go EV, remembering that cost and some inconvenience isn't the major concern of most of us. Smart cars would outsell F150s if it was. -
No it doesn't.

And you do that by governing, not by engaging in lies, petty revenge and sheer obstructionism. Things paramount in your perverted definition of patriotism.

Using the labour practices in the Congo as an argument is weak as hell. Buy cobalt somewhere else, like Ontario. I'm sure if Pinochet was still around they'd use that because copper is used in EVs too. The hypocrisy arises when many of the same crowd belittle those opposed to running pipelines full of actually toxic diluent and bitumen across the wilderness. The object is to reduce CO2 emissions and BEVs and fuel cells are the only way to do that if you want to keep private vehicles and the entire auto industry. -

You don't run an EV flat dead, just like you don't run out your gas tank until the car stops dead. And i have no idea where you live but you take CFL dogturd lights to the recycle shed like you do the old tube ones these days. Do you understand that rare earths mean they're not as common as iron or aluminum, not precious like bloody emeralds or diamonds? There's rarer and actually more precious metals in the catalytic converter of your car. And what makes you think germanium and lithium are toxic? Better get rid of your computer then. As I pointed out many times, quit thinking bumps in the road are impenetrable roadblocks that prevent anyone from going forward. -
Yet I hear everyday I hear people claim they bought a new anvil from China online and they shipped it to Dease Lake, overnight absolutely free! I did the amazon prime thing for the free shipping, and only discovered later the TV part came with it. Now it's free or faster shipping on some items... from what I remember as a store owner, I did see GST on shipping sometimes. And if I couldn't get an item from a wholesaler, I had to pay $10.70 instead of $10, mark that up and collect and remit PST on the new price.... they double taxed.

You're right in that in this day of merciless bean counters in charge, there'll be a cost invented with all benefits ignored. Just as how banks pulled off charging for machines that get no wages or benefits. Ignore any new business charging stations bring in, concentrate only on the cost.... But for everday home use... you're sleeping for 8 hours a day. That will charge anything at 110V enough for the next days use. And the 240V chargers aren't that expensive and sometimes included in the price of you EV. Remember, tomorrow morning you have to go to work and back, not drive the family to WallyWorld. The person who drives more than 30Km to do that isn't typical., he's the oddball. -
A paranoid imagination seems to be a requirement for GOP candidates.

Well when Timmies and McDs clue into the writing on the wall and put fast chargers in their lots, you should be able to do that top up charge while you grab a donut & coffee.... (And the guys idling in the drive thrus will be whining the EV owners are getting something free by going inside, and they're not) -
You never heard stories about them wanting GST/PST remittances from yard sales and swap meets decades ago? You're supposed to remit, but they don't push it because it's too hard to enforce. Once you go online, there's an electronic trail and all they need to do is force the websites to collect it for them. Easy pickings, you should have seen it coming. I used to order vape pods online, but now they have to collect PST for BC even though they're not IN BC, GST, tobacco taxes and restrict what flavours people from each province can buy. Can't even smoke menthols anymore. Tack oin top of that there's PST/GST/nicotine tax on quit smoking aids, and those have to be hidden from view too 'to protect children'. We do have many stupid rules, so stupid some are counter-productive.

Like accusations that you can't point out even a single incidence of?

No, you must've gone to a different school than the rest of the real world.

You'll still be able to buy a Peterbilt. Then you can really own the greenies when you go to Superstore. You can hog 4 parking spots while you're at it. And don't forget crummies. They'll still make those if you have a big family. -
If you squeeze your eyes and clamp your mid down hard enough and simply refuse to recognize the difference between a fetus and a living, breathing human being you can justify that stance.

But... but... but... they say as they respond on their Chinese made laptop, that sits on the desk plugged in and never moves, totally forgetting about the lithium battery. Sort of similar to how the other side sometimes forces bans on the use of plastic bags and straws rather than production and distribution, so they're dumped in the landfill in massive unused blocks. Reminds me of what I used to accuse the wife of: she didn't want the job done right, she demanded any job done right now. -
You should support Santos. He'll cover the deficit by writing bad cheques and then running away. After this latest debacle, it's obvious the MAGA Republicans have no interest in governing or the good of the country, only in obstructing and blocking anything they can. So long as there are crowds of halfwits cheering them on for publicly cutting their noses off to spite their own face.

Risk your life by breaking into someone's home?

Look at the stream of hate filled vomit the ignoramus responds with thinking he's defending his position. YOU don't have a legal right to defend your property with lethal force, if your Constitution says so, that proves it's f***ed. That you think you should have that right means you are too. If you're attacked you DO but only if you think your life is actually being threatened - you can't shoot someone multiple times because they booted you in the ass. Or shoot them in the back when they're running away cuz you scared them off. Unfortunately you're someone who only thinks in monochrome. Try watching Law & Order instead of Yellowstone for your legal education. But you win an award for trying to replace your straw man argument with a f***ing straw gang one.... -

So you walk in and someone's stealing your TV, run down to the rec room, unlock your gun cabinet, remover the trigger lock, run over to the ammo, load the gun and run back and shoot the guy 7 times. Or you might be one of those real smart guys that keeps a loaded gun in the house and handy. It's just too hard to use your fists or hit them with a chair or hockey stick... There's this tiny legal difference between people and property. Shooting someone stealing your silverware is not self defence.
