Canada - a wholly owned province of China
?Impact replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Let's see. Energy East resubmission was requested by the NEB, and Trudeau had absolutely zero, nothing, nada, zilch, to do with it. The submission filled 68 binders to being with, and was unmanageable. After submission it changed even more. Perhaps TransCanada should have done a better job to begin with, and made it more readable. Were they intentionally trying to make it difficult in hopes it would be ignored? Additionally they were not asked to resubmit, but rather to better explain their massive submission. So you would rather we kill our coastline, salmon industry, etc.? The tanker ban is about protecting a very sensitive resource. Additionally it was a very clear part of the election platform, something the Canadians said in overwhelming numbers they wanted. You are wrong about social license. The issue is not an extra review, it is about improving the NEB process. What specific LNG permits has Trudeau intervened on? -
Yes, if you do piecework full time then that is fine. The problem is apple picking season is very short, and by the time you become experienced and can actually earn more than minimum wage the season is over. The farmer want those kids who come up and work for slave wages, just like the scumbag corporations and their unpaid interns. Time the employer stopped relying on welfare.

Wynne says Hydro rates an "Urgent" Issue

Coal was scrapped by Progressive Conservative Ernie Eves. He established the plan to eliminate coal powered generation by the year 2015 (actual ended up being 2014). Wynne did introduce legislation (Bill 9 - Ending Coal for Cleaner Air Act) to amend the Environmental Protection Act to eliminate coal from being used again to generate electricity in the province. Are you arguing the government should be out of regulation entirely? Are you suggesting the wild west, and damn the consequences (environment, etc.)? I don't agree with Bill 9, I would prefer to see emission taxes (carbon tax, particulate tax, etc.). Unfortunately the loon fringe have campaigned hard against that, making it political suicide. -

Good point. Yes, whales certainly have a most advanced auditory communication (I can't say vocalization because they don't have vocal cords). Other marine animals (Dolphins, porpoises, etc.) are similar, but nowhere near as complex. Similar to birds, it is believed this auditory communication (song) is a mating ritual. The marine environment is well suited to sound transmission, and comparatively poor for visual and smell. While the whaling ships of a hundred or more years ago had a disastrous impact on the species, it is believed that todays commercial shipping is having an even more serious impact due to the noise pollution from the many loud propellers. -

What barriers are there to private enterprise developing gas powered generation? Yes, there are environmental and safety regulations, are you suggesting we need to be the wild west? You fail to understand the basic problem with competition in the utility marketplace, look to California and their problems. Everyone wants to run at 100% production, but that does not provide any reliability or growth. -
While Pershing II played out during Reagan's tenure, the decision to deploy happened during the Carter years. I give Reagan a lot of credit for some positive foreign policy evolution, it almost makes up for his terrible economic policy. Reagan had personality, Trump has none.

The sponsorship 'scandal' was a minor issue, that had absolutely zero effect on today. The Harris Energy Act changed the basic system of power generation, distribution, and retailing in the province and has enormous effect today. To make the comparison between the two is ridiculous. -

Humans developed language because they needed to negotiate with each other. God on the other hand has no language because he is alone (You shall have no other gods before me). Therefore language is a human development. -

I agree, the Liberals should have spent the several hundred billion dollars to fix the Progressive Conservative mistake years ago. Yes, they are 100% responsible for not doing that. It does not however change the root of the problem. I broke the window, and you didn't fix it. Does the fact you didn't fix it absolve me of the responsibility for breaking it in the first place? -

Are you arguing for public or private power? You seem to say that private is the only way to go, but then turn completely around and talk about public investments. The fact is that the private sector is a complete and utter failure in utilities, the world over. -
There is already some mechanization creeping into the field. The most promising is replacing the traditional sack used to gather the apples and carry them to the bin by a vacuum collection or track system. You still have a human doing the picking, but they place them into the conveyor which will carry them to the bin and place them gently to avoid bruising. This saves picking time and is easier on the workers. Current systems also provide a bit of a rest period between bins, although I expect that eventually eliminated with multiple bins on assembly line. Eventually there might be completely mechanical pickers, although there are many challenges to overcome. One of the problems is finding the apples, especially as they could be hidden behind branches and leaves. Not all apples are destined for the fruit aisle at the local supermarket and can accept some rougher handling as they will eventually be pressed for juice/cider. Of course the farmer still needs to make the investment. Like most other farm investments in automation, larger operations get better payback.

How do you lower the cost of hydro, when Mike Harris converted the public utility to a private one? What part of the government doesn't control the rate don't you get? Hydro is a private enterprise thanks to the Progressive Conservatives who destroyed many, many decades of a public utility. What would you like the government to do? Pay the several hundred billion dollars required to return the electric grid to public control? -
No, they need to deliver what they promised. It is just like those signs (or e-mails) that advertise earn a fortune in your spare time - complete fabrications. Invest in the workers, and it will pay off. Don't promise $25-$30 and hour and then deliver below minimum wage. Train the workers at a fair rate. This is no different than the scum corporations that look for unpaid interns. Picking apples is back breaking work, even for the inexperienced. Yes, you need an upside for the experienced people. How about $18/hour minimum, and $30/bin. Of course if the worker is completely useless, or doesn't improve, then you can fire them.

Raegan wanted to shoot down nuclear weapons, Trump wants to launch nuclear weapons.

Generous wages? Apple picking is usually piece work, and inexperienced workers barely make minimum wage if that. Yes, experienced workers can do better (maybe $25-$30/hour) but those that quit in the first few days didn't see anything like that. Apple picking is also seasonal work, and very short term at that. It is not a career, not something someone is going to uproot their family and move to the country for.

According to Machjo, Canada has one of the worst health care systems in the world - So it must be so. --- On medical school caps. Yes, some of the limits may be due to doctor lobby efforts (supply/demand), but there is also a limit to the resources available to train doctors. Medical doctors are the most heavily subsidized education paths, several million dollars per individual. Money is not the only factor, trained educators and positions for the practical side of their training are also in limited supply.

Canadians FEAR Trump...Big Time
?Impact replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I doubt anyone in Canada will ever again try and put the failed Trump name on any property. The current hotel owners are suing the Trump management corporation for complete failure to deliver. It is expected there will be a bankruptcy and the property will be sold to a new owner who will actually find a real hotel chain to associate with that can provide real bookings (and a new name on the building). -
Apple Corporation is Bad for Technology

Check out the Apple website for the iPhone 7. Both a set of EarPods with lightening connector, and a lightening to 3.5mm adapter are included. So much for the Apple UnFanBoys, better luck next time.
