  1. As AlienB pointed out. It's still a mind altering substance, where there is no easy method to test. I agree it's usually rather benign but so are two or three drinks or a Churchill Cigar. An entire joint isn't that benign. It creates a level of impairment that's rather intense. It should be just as illegal to drive high as it is driving drunk.
  2. Again, I'll state again that I'm not anti-pot. But people who expect to be able to "legally" produce a potent drug like pot at home when we live in a country with such restrictive regulations on existing legal recreational drugs are delusional. Legalization will mean dispensaries like the LCBO where products are sold at a high level of taxation. I think the masses are probably more comfortable with the defacto decriminalization status we're in now where people aren't even fined for personal use. People who produce the products take the risk of criminal charges but under a system of regulated and legalized weed, what they do would be illegal anyway.
  3. Also the maximum is one bottle of liqour, one case of beer and 50 cigars or cigarettes. You leave the country for a month and can't take back more than 7 day maximum.
  4. Makes it much harder to regulate. A handful of seeds can make lots of plants. A winekit makes how much wine? After a certain amount of time, I believe 48 hours. You can't just cross the border buy a few cases of beer, cartons of cigarettes and come back. If you don't declare it and pay the duty, it would be considered smuggling.
  5. Sure but the thing about weed is it's a lot easier to produce at home than tobacco and alcohol. Sure people make beer and wine at home but moonshine is still illegal and it requires a whole lot more effort than growing a plant. Would mailing people seeds to grow their own weed still be legal if marijuana were treated just like alcohol and tobacco? Also there's the fact that he was doing it across the border. I can't even cross the border and bring a bottle of scotch back without paying huge duty.
  6. Yeah but let's say I want to produce my own whisky and sell it to people out of my garage and not charge taxes. That legal? Is it legal to grow your own tobacco roll your own cigars and set up a stand and sell them to people?
  7. And there goes the Alberta Flood thread.

People like Waldo ruin it for people like Shady, what with their facts and evidence. How are they supposed to argue with that?

    3. waldo

      waldo

accountability has now returned to the thread!

      Accountability Now

Bubber...you might want to reconsider what waldo calls facts! He has been held accountable three times for these so called facts.

  8. That's the thing. You legalize pot tomorrow these issue would have yet to be addressed. Just because instances physical addiction to pot are less than with nicotine doesn't mean the drug doesn't come with some serious risks.
  9. Trafficking Alcohol and Tobacco is illegal even though they're legal products right? So even if Marijuana was legal, this would still be a crime. In Ontario we have some draconian regulations attached to legal use of alcohol and tobacco but people expect that producing unregulated marijuana should be fine?
  10. Just thought I'd bump it. It's hot today. I was referring to keeping the fan on 24/7 to keep air circulating all the time. I've heard it said that keeping the furnace fan on all the time help circulate the air much better and also helps extend the life of the motor because it's working all the time and not turning on and off. I found the electricity price of having the fan on all the time was more than the savings in gas by having air circulate better. I do keep ceiling fans on all the time while the AC is on in the summer.
  11. 41 degrees with humidity today. Gotta love Central Air! I feel very sorry for the people in Etobicoke who have been without power for coming on two days now in this heat because of the storm Monday.
  12. That's like saying someone who's murder conviction was overturned on appeal still committed the murder. You could argue voting on a motion forcing him to pay back money was conflict of interest. But if council had no legal ability to force him to payback the donations in the first place then how could it be conflict of interest? Chicken or Egg. He's actually considered, by some, to be a teflon mayor. The lawsuit over comments regarding the Beaches Pub didn't stick. There's no way to throw him out over $40,000 in excess campaign spending. The Conflict case was overturned. Even this Crack Cocaine thing has simmered down and never really effected his numbers.
  13. Also trendy to hate Apple. Windows 8 appears to be attempting to move consumers over to a more mobile/tablet type of computing. It might seem like a failure at this point but it shows some forward thinking because PC sales are dwindling and they have to find a way to compete in the very competitive mobile market. This is an opportunity for Google because their mobile OS is excellent (best in the business, if you ask me). They've released some low cost Google-run laptop recently but they don't do much differently than a tablet. You may end up seeing Full-Service Laptops running an Android engine in the near future. I'd be all for that. Someone has to make a reasonably priced tablet/laptop that actually works well and they'll make some serious money.
  14. If my basement is flooding and I'm without power. I don't really care what the mayor is saying. I want to hear from officials from the Hydro company and my Insurance Company. That Andy Byford guy was all over the media last night to give updates on TTC issues. Apparently Doug Ford was directing traffic last night. But he was also giving out campaign literature for Doug Hollyday. (I heard on the radio)
  15. I think people have a kneejerk reaction to hate everything he does no matter what. I'll criticize him when it's warranted. Apparently he was doing radio/TV interviews last night. And he's about to do a presser this morning. That SUV thing came from a Tweet from the guy that does the City Hall beat from the Sun. This outrage over what he was doing last night was created by Twitter. His Twitter account was posting updates and people were posting snide remarks about wanting Calgary's Mayor.
  16. Yeah I'm sure many Torontonians would love to live in a city built upon Oilsand revenue.
  17. So now Ford's getting heat for not doing pressers last night during the "Great Flood". No one died, no one got hurt. People got flooded basements and cars. Oh and a GO-Train got stranded in a river that wasn't there when the train disembarked.
  18. The Leafs play in an interesting Division this year. It's an 8 team division with all the teams in the former Northeast teams plus Detroit and the Florida teams. Top 4 teams make the playoffs so they don't have to worry about any cross-over competition. (What's old is new again). Detroit added some talent this offseason but they really had to struggle to make the playoffs this past season. I don't believe they're the powerhouses they had been in the past. Last season the Florida teams were doormats but the Florida Panthers made the playoffs a year before. Buffalo is rebuilding and I think Montreal's year was pretty flukish. They were a joke at the end of the season. Ottawa and Toronto seem rather evenly matched. A healthy Senators team this year will be formidable. Boston is the defending conference champ so they're the clear favourite. Toronto clearly played the B's them much better last year then they had in the past. Toronto has a more than fair chance at being the top 4 in that division.
  19. What the sex scandal wasn't a sufficient humbling?
  20. It seems the event that caused the creation of this thread is rather outdated. A more recent example of how people react to the word in question is the Paula Dean story. The Food Network personality admitted using the N-Word in the past and now people that did business with her are turning their back on her.
  21. The Windsor seat is the one where the NDP are considered a lock. The Liberals shunned Windsor's favourite daughter Sandra Pupatello at the leadership convention and Dwight Duncan proved to be a pretty abysmal Finance Minister. Another interesting race now is in Scarborough-Guildwood. Adam Giambrone is said to be attempting a comeback for the NDP there. He was the Mayoralty candidate/City Councillor that had to bow out because it was found out that he was having "relations" with a girl that wasn't his girlfriend in his office. He's considered a transit expert. The Liberals are putting up a lady named Mitzy Hunter. She's one of those Metrolinx Big Move/New Revenue Tools advocates. It'll be interesting to hear Giambrone tow the party line opposing these revenue tools. He's also fighting in a riding where the Subway/LRT debate is raging.
  22. He traded money for length. I'm sure the Leafs will have no problem buying him out if he does suck. As for cap room, the money they've freed up getting rid of Grabo goes to Clarkson. Right now they have a few speedy goal scoring wingers. From what I gather Clarkson is more of a physical forward. And when you consider guys often produce into their late 30s, it's not a horrible gamble.
  23. But that's the question. In Toronto Bixi isn't making enough to be financially independent. So does it deserve a subsidy from the government?
  24. Graboski gets bought out today. He was a good soldier but just not worth the money.
  25. What about monitoring crazy people with drug problems and a criminal record that have recently converted to Islam?
