  1. He's not my buddy. I've seen him on multiple media outlets and he seems quite affable. But he's also done some pretty bone-headed things. But clearly you have insider info. I'm not a fan of the reason Mitzi Hunter is running and I hope she loses.
  2. Revenue Tool advocates need to get their story straight because if this "Cost of Congestion" talking point is what they'll use now, it's doomed to fail. http://www.thestar.com/opinion/commentary/2013/07/18/gta_congestion_and_lack_of_infrastructure_have_high_costs.html Do you know what else makes people less likely to go from one end of the region to another? THE BLEEPING PRICE OF GAS!!!!! If I want to go to a Blue Jays game and come into the city, I'll do it on the weekend where traffic is rather manageable and parking costs less. If you're going to some "boutique" store on the other end of the region and you choose to do it in the morning or evening of a weekday, you're a clown and deserve to be stuck in traffic, you're the reason there's congestion. First people advocate and urban lifestyle where people have all they need within walking distance because it's better for the environment and it's healthier. I only usually leave town to see family, friends or go to work. But NOW the talking point is that people who choose to live a more urban lifestyle because they aren't interested in contributing to congestion are costing people money. INCREDIBLE!!! If you're on the road from like 7-9am or 4-6pm for anything other than commuting to work then you're the problem. There are still times during the week where moving across the region is very easy. GO-Train is already quite convenient but very expensive, lots of people drive because it's cheaper. Increasing the price of gas and tolling major arteries will make people less likely to commute across the region, regardless of traffic. How will these talking head take into account the increased cost of transportation into the "cost to the region" when they jack up taxes and the price of gas?
  3. So isn't predicting Ford will lose be as silly as predicting Ford will in? BTW, Ford's ignorance aside the motion still was passed in his favour. That's what people will remember.
  4. Only 2 weeks to wait. Final 8 episodes so you'll have to get your fix elsewhere. There are Interweb rumours that the lawyer Saul Goodman might get a spinoff series of some kind.
  5. Gotta wait until early August for that.
  6. Sure but it's annoying no matter who's doing it. We don't know who Ford is facing in the 2014 election so a prediction there is as silly as saying Trudeau will win a majority in 2015.
  7. Hey people on this site are constantly predicting the downfall of the CPC 2 years out. Election prediction is nothing new on this site.
  8. A house cat could beat a Panda. But if it's a Grizzly my vote would be for that. They're huge Apex predators. Of course I've never encountered either in real life.
  9. I've heard that building isn't sound enough to support a Condo. So it would have to be leveled and all those Heritage lovers will have a meltdown.
  10. Oh they'll call you stodgy. We have a pretty stodgy society regarding tobacco and alcohol. I think we need to see how the states in the US handle weed legalization. Would people agree to buying permits to smoke weed? And what punishment will be passed down if you don't have a permit, and what type of enforcement will be implemented to make sure people buy permits? Lots of questions. Many people smoke weed without fear of criminalization already, So I do support criminalization, I'm not sure about legalization right now, I think it'll make getting weed harder not easier.
  11. If not them, who? Another Condo? It seems like a reasonable alternative since people are making a stink at the other location near Kensington.
  12. I heard highlights of yesterdays council session on the radio. I'm embarrassed for Ford. He got totally pwned by councillor Josh Matlow. I don't know anything about this proposed Scarberia LRT. But I'll take experts word for it that it's not going to take away from lanes on the street. And the population density isn't high enough to really justify full fledged subway. Ford was saying the project was going to tear up streets, and Matlow had a meltdown. This actually makes the Province and Stinz look even worse, because we all know Ford is just appealing to blind populism. But THEY! are supposed to be the responsible ones. Yeah I know Provincial Liberals and the Word Responsible don't ever get used together EVER! But they're just partially financing this project. They should know what the plans are before they waffle like this. Ironically Ford won't be the one to suffer from this mess, it's the sheeple that fear he'll get them turfed out. It's quite a sight.
  13. The question is, who started the fight. Only Zimmerman and a dead guy knows, therefore you get a "Not Guilty" verdict.
  14. I suspect you're correct. Impossible to prove however. You also might be given Zimmerman too much credit. From what I hear, he doesn't appear to be that smart.
  15. So Honest Eds is for Sale. It's located close to where this proposed Walmart that's making the locals freak out is. If Walmart bought the Honest Eds location wouldn't the opposition to Walmart then be exposed as utter hypocrisy? http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/07/16/iconic-honest-eds-store-quietly-put-up-for-sale/
  16. Yep, and most reasonable people would agree that's a stupid law. Especially in a nation like Canada where carrying a concealed weapon is effectively banned. But am I wrong in thinking there's no way to prove that Zimmerman actually instigated a fight? He may have confronted Martin but in a non-violent manor and Martin was insulted by the obvious racism and tried to beat the piss out of Zimmerman.
  17. Actually, No disrespect, but you keep bumping the issue. I think we're pretty much at a stalemate here. I can concede you'd have to believe in some overarching conspiracy to believe either the video doesn't exist or that whatever video did exist is was doctored. That being said without a video nothing more can be said. I imagine people who believe Ford is a crack-head wouldn't vote for him anyway so the issue is moot.
  18. I think it's obvious there was some racial profiling involved here. But under the laws as they are written in Florida it would have been an injustice had Zimmerman been convicted. I've heard opinions that charges shouldn't even have been laid and the only reason they were is because of public pressure. Evidence was clear that he was in a fight with Martin was winning. So a self-defence defence would appear to be appropriate. Now the problem with that law are completely different from the racial undertones of the case. It'll also be interesting to see if the race issue will be address in coverage of another recent murder case. Hispanic NFL football star Aaron Hernandez has been charged with executing African American Odin Lloyd. It's clear that this is a gruesome murder charge. The racial makeup of the people involved are the same. Will racism be an issue here, or because Hernandez is a famous athlete, will he avoid such charges? Or will that effect the case?
  19. Anyone catch the second season's Premiere? The interwebs are very mixed on this show. Sorkin writes very high-minded dialogue that frequently feels unrealistic. The first season really tried to shoehorn a love triangle that later turned into a love pentagon. It likely annoyed many viewers being the show is about current affairs, politics and how the news is reported. Gotta love Maggie getting burned for her Sex in the City rant. I found her rather loathsome last season. The second season seems promising though. The overarching narrative of a lawsuit should keep the season focused. One thing I find odd about the show is how they use revisionist history to make their characters look brilliant. One of the characters, Neal, goes to an early planning meeting for Occupy Wall Street. He basically tells the planner exactly what will end up making the movement peter out: No leadership structure and no real demands are uniting message other than the 99% stuff. Knowing how the OWS story turns out Neal looks prophetic in this instance. He did the same thing in the series premiere when he predicted the real problem with the BP Oil Spill before anyone thought it was a serious news story. Criticisms aside, it's a great show to watch during the usual Summertime lull. It's also quite interesting that this show airs after such a braindead violence and sexfest that is True Blood.
  20. Is any truth to the theory that the Floods were worse because of development on flood plains? Toronto had some serious flooding last week but it wasn't considered catastrophic because there aren't as many people living directly on flood plains. Most major problems were isolated to transportation routes and Toronto's weak electricity system.
  21. Well if it's legal immigration there should be reasonable to employment prospects. It's ironic that Suzuki didn't say Canada was full to people seeking refugee status. His major opposition was that Canada plunders poorer nations of their talented individuals. Is Canada supposed to be open to people seeking refuge but have no reasonable expectation of employment? But it's bad to demand that prospective immigrants should be able to actually contribute to Canada.
  22. They want people to commute less, but when people do commute less they say it's a loss to the economy. They've admitted the Big Move won't do too much to reduce commute times. It's goal is to make public transport more appealing. I personally fail to see how it accomplishes that outside Toronto and bordering 905 communities. Buy does that figure take into account the drastically increased cost of commuting and doing business if the revenue tools are put into place?
  23. It's less than 2% a year. If Ford says no to this then even his most ardent supporters will have to do a facepalm. This big story here is the cynical flip flop on the Liberals part because they are fighting a byelection in Scarborough.
  24. http://www.nationalpost.com/m/wp/news/canada/canadian-politics/blog.html?b=news.nationalpost.com/2013/07/11/jason-kenney-slams-xenophobic-david-suzuki-after-environmentalist-claims-canada-is-full Canadians birth rate isn't going to sustain even modest population growth. Immigration is important to keep our economy growing. I can understand an environmentalists opinion that the world is overpopulated. Now whether I agree is another thing. Quite frankly had a conservative said such a thing I'm sure there would be cries of racism. Would he have the guts to say that other nations should ban reproduction? Probably not. Good for Kenney for calling Suzuki out on such an insane statement.
  25. Cite? Tobacco is this very highly regulated with huge amounts of taxes and controls on how it can be displayed in stores. Packaging has to have graphic warning labels and consumption in indoor public places have been effectively banned. I'm sure Big Tobacco don't support these measures.
