  1. What is the solution? 70 days before the election, reject all absentee ballots unless the person asking for one works abroad?
  2. One thing that is upsetting about the Post-Covid world is businesses that just can't provide comparable value and enjoyment in a Social Distancing world. I cancelled my Gym membership today. I'm not waiting in line to use the Gym at 5pm, I'm not wearing a mask while exercising, I'm not waiting to use a machine because only every other machine gets used. And the 2 months it was closed completely got me out of the habit and adapted to other ways to get physical activity.
  3. I'm not saying that's the goal. It's evidence that people are actually verifying ballots and not counting ballots from dead people.
  4. It's also fascinating that the narrative is that people who's only job (paid) is to make sure paper gets delivered from point A to B won't be able to do it without rampant fraud, but there's little chance of fraud from volunteers counting votes on a single day.
  5. Is that not evidence that officials don't just count every ballot they receive? It has the be verified and if it can't some will be rejected.
  6. In almost all battleground states, that's what happens. So I don't see the problem.
  7. So then the alternative is to further hamper the system so you can call it into question OR shore up the Postal Service so the system can run as effectively as possible. Clearly the incumbent is seeking to create chaos so he can de-legitimize the election results.
  8. You only have an example of New York, which is one state which doesn't allow voters to obtain absentee ballots without a reason. What about the 5 states that have used Mail-In voting universally for multiple elections without any dispute? Also, what do you propose happens? Banning Absentee balloting this late in the race? I accept your surrender.
  9. Why not, they deal with it on Holidays. They would handle that number of votes on election day anyway. In Canada we have to count people crossing an X on a piece of paper on election day. And you appear to ignore the fact that in the Wisconsin and Georgia primaries there were very long lines because of there were fewer polling places due to COVID-19. Is it illegal for a Registered voter to vote by mail? Have any states (even Republican ones) moved to outlaw it. The only one I know of is Texas where you have to give a reason if you're under 65. In fact in Florida and North Carolina, the GOP encourage it. BTW hampering the Postal Services ability to deliver the mail will only make the situation worse. Which is the goal. Trump wants to create chaos so he can claim the election is invalid.
  10. Ultimately the debate is about Universal Mail-In voting. You get a ballot whether you ask for one or not. I'll entertain the idea that there could be potential problems there. AFIK most states don't have that though. But a solid majority of states do allow registered voters to obtain an absentee ballot. Which would be their right. The narrative is that using an absentee ballot to avoid voting in person because of COVID is not a good reason. But 35 states don't require any reason. That's why a President, who has access to a private jet, can vote by mail. But what? a person that has a job that doesn't allow him/her to stand in line all day to vote cant? BS! I'm glad the Postal Service was forced to back-down on the efforts by the Trump Stooge Postmaster General to hamper the service.
  11. Not if they aren't registered.
  12. Trump appreciates Qanon, because they like him. Note: they believe Democrats run a Child Sex Ring.

Trump has indicated he may not accept the result of the election and mused about delaying the election.

The Mueller investigation did not exonerate Trump of what he was accused of.

I would contend that Fox News is MSM. Which Trump "usually" appreciates.

      There's a reason why it's called "mainstream."

I hope we can agree that QAnon is utter madness and can be condemned without equivocation?

  13. Or you can ask for an absentee ballot because you just don't want to vote in person. 35 states don't require a reason to receive an absentee ballot. You could be in Cancun and request an absentee ballot, you could request one because you anticipate long lines and have something important to do that day. It doesn't matter. Trump has not changed any laws. He's just trying to make it harder for the Postal Service to do its job.
  14. I sense a strong case of Obama Derangement Syndrome.
  15. Trump calls for a boycott of Goodyear after they ban political attire. What happened to denouncing Cancel Culture?

So when people boycotted ivankas clothing line and Goya, but she and dad called it cancel culture, that was ok?

    3. Boges

      Boges

How is this any different than calling for a boycott of Goya?

      BTW personal attack reported.

If, say a broadcaster, says something that a group find offensive. And they campaign to boycott the broadcaster's advertisers in an effort to get the network to fire them. How is that not cancel culture?

Claiming definitively that Cancel Culture and Boycotts are objectively different is ridiculous.

  16. Bad news for Voter Suppression. https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/18/politics/post-office-dejoy/index.html
  17. So the alternative to the possibility of fraud is voter suppression? If voting by mail was such a bad idea, then Trump and his "lot" should lead by example and not do it.
  18. If anyone needed evidence that Trump is a huge liar, yesterday he said “Big surge in New Zealand. It’s terrible. We don’t want that.”

    They had 13 cases.

Anything to get away from Michelle Obama's lie!

      Boges

So again quibbling about Michelle Obama completely distracts from the fact that Trump told a bold face lie about the COVID-19 infection rate in New Zealand. I guess that's the tried and true tactic.

      Boges

Also note, the article referenced said the claim was misleading. Not a lie.

      So who's the liar?

  19. Well do you have evidence that fraud is rampant? 5 states do Universal Mail-In Voting. There would be ample ability for one to find fraud if it was likely. But in states that matter, we're not talking about Universal Mail-In voting. We're talking about Absentee balloting. Which Trump himself participates in.
  20. That's voter suppression. There's no evidence that large scale fraud has ever happened regarding Absentee balloting. 45 himself does it.
  21. The risk is certainly increased if you hamper the service. Trump's looking for a self-fulfilling prophecy. There's no law that caps the amount of people that can use absentee ballots and in most states there's not set reasons one can use. So any challenge to the validity of the system is just hand-wringing. People should get their ballots in early. It's comparable volume.
  22. So people are able to count millions of ballots the day of an election, no problem. But to count them if they come in ahead of time? Big problem? The volume isn't an issue of the Postal Service was properly funded. They deal with Holiday seasons no problem.
  23. The North Carolina GOP are sending out Absentee ballot applications with a Trump tweet on the cover. They have to black out half of the tweet. The first part he says Absentee ballots are great but then trashes mail-in voting. THEY'RE THE SAME!!!!! https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/16/politics/postal-service-trump-absentee-ballot-request-mail-usps/index.html
  24. And the solution is to make the Postal Service less capable of handling the ballots?
  25. To be consistent, the New Zealander's PM's decision to delay the election a month because of a relative handful of COVID-19 cases is 100% wrong. Not that I'm saying she's fascist, but Public Safety can certainly be used as an excuse for Fascist policies.

It's only "fascism" if Trump does it...right ?

No reason to delay. Develop systems that enable it to work. We have to develop those systems anyway.

      Shutting down = suicide.

Different system to U.s. with fixed election dates so no comparison.  The commonwealth countries have 4-5 year cycles, and you can call the election before the final deadline, then postpone it if you still have time before reaching the final deadline. That’s basically what’s happening in NZ. It’s the same idea in Canada.
