  1. The Dud subs Enough is enough.I for one think Prime Minister Harper should end this charade of these Subs being worthwhile and ship them up to the Artic and let them float around as the Liberal ghost fleet of the north. Of course the Liberal logo would be painted on their sides as a reminder of all things Liberal. They could float aimlessly like the Liberal party that purchased them until they fill with holes and sink to the bottom of the sea. Seriously, these ships with 60's technology aren't deserving of being kept alive for the Canadian navy.Save the repair cost toward something the Navy could use.Subs just aren't needed any more.
  2. Don Martin's column in the National post today talks about Daddy Stronach and how ole Pappy Stronach thinks Harper's doing a good job so far.Wonder if Belinda has second thoughts......I think Belinda will fade in the next election and go back back to Daddy's money..er.....car company.
  3. Other than Kinsella, have any of the "media" picked up on the story?
  4. Ok. That's what I found to be slanderous. Whoever posted that could surely be sued if they can't prove it. For those who want to know. Lawrence Metherel is the prostitute who claimed was involved with Graham.Metherel claimed Graham supported him with $1500 a month for 15 years starting in 1980 when he was 15 years of age. It was all reported in tha Gay magazine FAB by Metherel. Behind every successful man is an underaged boy?
  5. New Consitutional Talks? Dumont says Quebec must engage in a new dialogue to repair former prime minister Pierre Trudeau's constitutional errors. Will the Conservative government take this as a sign to get the talks going again, either now or when the conservatives lead the country with a majority? How will the rest of Canada look at this?
  6. In the next election the only "past" the voters will see will be that of past Liberal governments that were all talk and no action. The voter will see Harper as a Prime Minister who acts on his promises, and that is totally refreshing to hear from a politician. Maybe this will become a new standard that voters will demand.
  7. Sorry Geoff, you know not what you're speaking about. Our youngest child was the one in 5 million that had an adverse reaction. The other three were fine but the youngest had brain damage from the second round of shots at four months resulting in not being able to speak until four and having psycomotor seizures until seven. Thank God young brains are "plastic" and can repair themselves to a certain extent. Further measles mumps rubella and pertussis shots were "contraindicated" by the medical examiner of health for the province - ie these shots were not to be given. However, every school and public health nurse thought we were some crunchy granola uninformed parents. As parents we had to fight like hell to keep our child from having anymore shots. Our child still gets tetanus polio and diptheria but the other immunizations would result in a fatal reaction this time. We don't want to spend anymore time at the Children's Hospital here with the neurologist so we turn down the ones that will harm our child, but it is a battle. Some kids have died and some are in vegetative states. Our child is now, with intensive speech therapy and interventions, "normal" - and we want to keep it that way. As our family doctor says, it would be better for our child to have German measles (rubella) than to risk further brain damage or death. Immunizations are not universally harmless - odds that something adverse will happen are more likely than winning the 649. Whooping cough (pertussis) immunization would kill our child. I am sure you are not advocating that.
  8. ......and how much of the Liberal plan would cover that amount?
  9. Interesting concept. There seems to be a insinuation here that "bums" are foreigners and should be deported if not working.I don't think that's the case. I don't believe anyone should be forced to work, but I would be in favor of a program that requires those collecting unemployment or even welfare to make themselves available at a government institution daily(punching a clock) everyday, where they would be helped in finding employment. They would only receive funds if they did this on a daily basis. The idea of getting free money and going off to do as you wish would not be an option. In order to receive a handout, you would have to,say spend five hours a day, five days a week looking for employment with the help of a councilor or proving that you have applied for a job somewhere. I don't think it would take long for people to find work with this incentive.
  10. Not knowing Kennedy, what makes him so popular other than his name(another JFK?) and the fact he's not part of the present bunch of "name" politicians. What's he done that makes him a contender?
  11. Quinton, If you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem. What are you personally doing other than complaining?
  12. Scriblett, Practice makes perfect.
  13. Just a note of interest about lumber prices. When I was in Windsor Ontario, lumber that came from BC was cheaper to buy in Detroit than it was in Windsor. So I wonder if it isn't the Canadian consumer who's getting shafted and not the Americans(if it's still like it was a few years back) Anybody ever do a comparision of Canadian and American prices for Canadian grown lumber?
  14. I don't sell oil, wish I did. So farming is a small business? How much government money do other small business get in the form of subsidies? Small businesses who can't make it on their own, go out of business. No government handouts.
  15. So what's the answer? Force the population to drink milk or keep the farmer on welfare subsidy. How about the farmer adjusts to costs by changing the way he farms or where he gets his seed. What's his solution, other than going to the government for handouts. What's the answer?
  16. [ Interesting, rant, but get away from the milk and to the topic. Subsidies. Milk is NOT something special, it is just food.Food that can be subsituted with other food. Other foods that DO NOT get government handouts. Why should milk be treated differently? Bread is in the food groups, vegetables and fruits too. Which one of these items gets government handouts? Milk is NOT something SPECIAL.
  17. I'm reading here an admission that milk is not all it's made out to be. It can cause problems and is not the only source for good health. Other foods can replace it's health benefits. It has problems the same as alcohol, tobbacco, ect.,ect. I don't see subsidies being given out by the government to alcohol or tobbacco or foods that give the same nutrients as milk.Milk is just another food. Sorry but, it does not deserve special treatment, nor do the people who produce it.
  18. Any ideas on how that could be done?
  19. Technocrat, I commend you for your findings about the "quack", well done. It was about the message and not the messanger. But that doesn't dispell the fact that milk IS NOT the perfect food there is. Milk is in fact the cause of many thing that make us sick, despite what the Milk marketing board says. Maybe this site would be better. Not Milk Take your own advice and don't believe everything you read. Dairy Milk really is for Cows. Moo-oo
  20. Like a lot of things in life, a person makes decisions based on their personal choices.Farmers have made their's.I don't care to be in the farmer's shoes, because I just don't care about farming.Maybe you should be in the shoes of our soldiers,or construction workers or fishermen. Why should I be concerned about what it costs the farmer to farm. That decision to farm was his and his alone. You seem to resent people doing what they want with their money.I don't hear anyone complaining about paying for food,or health care or schools.I hear people complaining about government handouts and waste. You seem to be making excuses for the farmer, his costs, his lifestye, his lack of income.Everyone makes choices in life and if the lifestyle is too hard to bare,do something else.We are all struggling to make ends meet.Costs are affecting all of us,from housing,to fuel, to day to day living. As much as you would like to believe the farmer is someone special, in actual fact he's no different than the rest of us working smucks.
  21. If you don't like what Monsanto does, form a co-operative between farmers and avoid the Monsanto type companies. If you don't like what the corporations are doing to the farmers, form a co-operative and deal with the corporation as a group. If subsudies are necessary to survive in business, think about getting into another business. Sounds like the farmer doesn't want to take charge of the business, only wants to farm. Face the new millenium, this isn't your Grandfather's farm anymore. Evolution includes the dairy farmer.
  22. Easiest way to handle this issue,is to ban subsidies to milk producers, the same as we do to tobbacco and alcohol. Why subsidize something that's no good for you? Don't Drink Your Milk!
  23. Just remember, in Alberta there are no rats.
  24. Naci Sey, Yes youcan expect a civil forum here. Lots of great ideas and discussions here.Welcome aboard. -CES
