  1. IN reading of all the "Canadians" in Lebanon, some 40,000 have dual citizenship but live only in Lebanon. One has to wonder if getting a Canadian citizenship might be just "to easy". It appears being Canadian has lots of "value" for those outside of Canada, maybe we should make it even more valuable by restricting it to being the only citizenship allowed. Dual Citizenship Since February 15, 1977, a Canadian citizen who acquires another nationality may retain Canadian citizenship. I think we should go back to singular citizenship recognition. If you want to be Canadian, then you must only be Canadian and renounce any other citizenship you may have. If you believe in Canada then Canada comes first. How do you feel about not allowing dual citizenship?
  2. How about they set up roadblocks and protest until they get some "action"?
  3. May not be anxious but are not supporting it so it could very well happen unless they change their mind. Fall vote could be triggered A lot of roaring by the opposition now,but this fall I expect the opposition to be changing their tunes when the polls say Canadians don't want an election and if the Conservative popularity soars some more, you'll see the opposition suddenly in favour of the softwood bill.
  4. THe answer is not immigration. The answer is for businesses to hire and train the skilled workers they need in the form of apprenticeships and skills training. The businesses of this country want ready made skilled people.Priority number one is to make money not spent it. No one wants to come to Alberta because it costs to much to live there, who can afford a house or an apartment? Can you blame them? Making big bucks and having to spend big bucks to live there doesn't make sense. They might as well stay home where it's more affordable, even with low wages,or no wages. Immigrants who come here generally have a communication problem with their skills and businesses are reluctant to hire them because they don't want to spend the time training.Add to that most immigrants lack the funds to live beyond poor housing, so big cities is where they migrate and stay. Argus is right, it's time to cut back with immigration and start being more selective about who we let in.
  5. The opposition(all of them) have been making noise about the soft-wood lumber deal and saying they are not happy and this may be THE issue to strike an election in the fall. The Conservatives seem to want it as a confidence motion this fall to boot. So bring it on. Canadians will be so happy to see another election.
  6. Key words are "stand-off" and "aggressive" along with "does not always trigger violence" implying violence occurs MOST of the time. "Intended for results".....like something terrorists would do,without consideration of anything or anyone. Jerry J. is right, keep the peace and take your civil suits to court(you do have lawyers do you not?)
  7. NativeCharm, To you, everyone is a typical anglo. Why don't you educate us? Tell us why what we see isn't true. We are here to learn.
  8. For those wondering about the committee does and their members: BOIE story April 10 2006 BOIE meetings SHOULDN'T be more open, say BOIE MPs The powerful, secretive Commons Board of Internal Economy which oversees the functions and finances of the House of Commons should not be opened up for more public access, say MPs from the three national parties in the House. "There's a lot of tradition that goes with the operation of the Parliament Hill Precinct," Chief Government Whip Jay Hill (Prince George-Peace River, B.C.) said last week. "There's a lot of information that's dealt with there in a sensitive nature because you're dealing with--in most cases--human resources, people, so I think there's a need for confidentiality and privacy." Liberal Whip Karen Redman (Kitchener Centre, Ont.) said that the way the board operates right now is sufficient. "The contents of the meeting are sensitive to specific individuals enough of the time that it's good the way it's handled now," she said. NDP MP Pat Martin (Winnipeg Centre, Man.), a staunch advocate for access to information and open government, said that the secret meetings are fair. "I've never been one to call for more openness from Board of Internal Economy meetings," he said. "There's good reason for them to have to conduct their affairs in camera because of the unique give and take situation of their decision making process." Mr. Hill said that the BOIE operates on consensus, unlike normal House committees, although the board is not a committee. "There's a lot of give and take there and I would say non-partisanship but on a lot of very sensitive issues that we do deal with on the Board, there are times when people take some very strong positions," he said. "I think the only reason they can do that is because they're in camera. I believe they're held in confidence for a reason." The members of the board are: -Government House Leader Rob Nicholson (Niagara Falls, Ont.), -National Revenue Minister Carol Skelton (Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar, Sask.), -Chief Government Whip Jay Hill (Prince George-Peace River, B.C.) -Conservative MP Joe Preston (Elgin-Middlesex-London, Ont.) -Liberal Whip Karen Redman (Kitchener Centre, Ont.) -Liberal MP Lucienne Robillard (Westmount-Ville Marie, Que.), -Bloc Québécois MP Michel Guimond (Charlevoix-Montmorency, Que.) and -NDP House Leader Libby Davies (Vancouver East, B.C.). -The Speaker of the House is the chair of the Board. -The Clerk of the House, Audrey O'Brien, is the secretary of the board. The board is responsible for "all financial and administrative matters respecting the House of Commons, its premises, its services and its staff; and the Members of the House of Commons." It is also responsible for approving the annual budget estimates of the House, including budget expenditures for committees, and salary scales for non-unionized employees on the Hill, before the Speaker submits it to Treasury Board. The Board meets approximately every two weeks when the House is sitting. l
  9. A Trudeau statue would be the one doing the relieving.......as the man himself did to Canada.
  10. NovaScotian I agree,it would have been an awsome move, that probably got BC and then the rest of the country going into election reform. Too bad PEI's vision was so narrow. CES
  11. When put on the board as a trustee, the number one function is to work for the betterment of the constituents you represent, not to fight the board on which you are a member. Time was wasted on pettiness. O'Malley deserved to get booted. He forgott the reason why he was there and turned it into his personal agenda against the board. The judge was right.
  12. First good point you have made . That's why after none of that for 13 years Canadians are ready for some governance and maturity. God bless Stephen Harper.
  13. Ah but....gerrypegger is Liberal, and Liberals are allowed to interpret the Liberal way, in however many ways it might be. GST,AD-Scam,Air-Bus,9/11,tax relief, election promises.....ect...ect....ect.
  14. Proudpegger, Maybe you're own advice should be taken by YOU.
  15. Last year PEI had a chance to be a leader in electoral reform. After several years of study,it had all culminated in a recommendation that the province adopt a Mixed-Member Proportional (MMP) system as well as moved to elections being held on a fixed 4-year schedule. The opportunity was there to begin reform,Canada watched,PEI said No. The ones that like playing the fiddle appears to be the Maritimers themselves.
  16. Gerryhatrick=proudpegger=Liberal double dipper........they never change,do they?
  17. Very much like drinking and driving, drinking and postings can be dangerous to you and those around you. Poor guy(MB) paid the ultimate price. Let's hope no one else meets the same fate.......hum,maybe,just maybe .....one more.
  18. Argie, You should lighten up a bit,we got it good here and should be happy about Canada's birthday. For the kids, it's like a big birthday party. And like a kid some of us like an excuse to party. I will have say that the immigrants of yesterday did seem to appreciate Canada a lot more than the ones of today. At least it appears to be that way.
  19. gerryhatrick, Becoming a little obsessed with the topic that you have to start yet another thread about it? FROM THE RULES:
  20. Happy Canada Day Oh Canada
  21. Oh look, sour grapes from a troll. How nice. Once again you ignore the rules. NO CROSS-POSTING It is also considered cross posting IF YOU POST THE SAME INFORMATION IN DIFFERENT AREAS OF THESE FORUMS. If you want to propose a new topic, find the appropriate category and only post once. All cross-posts will be deleted without warning.
  22. gerryhatrick, Why don't you start a few more threads on the same topic, that way you can respond with the same answer in a bunch of threads.
  23. traditionally, a person should urinate and defecate at least seven man-lengths from a water body, like a lake or river. Unlike the drunken non-Natives partying it up on the houseboats of Ontario, we don't piss directly into a lake that everyone else is swimming, fishing, and sometimes, drinking from. I hope that helps Canuck. We need you to do your bit for the environment too. Considering that the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources came down to Toronto to ask me to advise on the forest management plan for Nipissing district, probably, but I'm not going to identify myself because I don't want people stalking my children. What I can do is point at North Battleford and Walkerton and say "nice job, guys...way to poison and kill people that relied and trusted you for clean drinking water". Now that I think of it, why don't you come down to southern Ontario and drink straight from Lake Ontario or Lake Erie....I dare ya.... Firstly I'll continue to use a toilet for my envronmental concerns.Maybe the traditional 7 man - lengths the natives use should be changed to (for environmental concerns) having to carry a defecating bag the way dog owners do.If you're a short native, 7 man-lengths is too close for me. I'm glad to hear that "we" don't piss directly into a lake that everyone is swimming, fishing,or sometimes drinking from. If only it was just the drunken non-natives that was the source of this "pollution" and not the drunken natives in their gas powered boats,or the black bears and beavers. W.C.Fields once said: "I never drink water because of the disgusting things that fish do in" As long as you don't do it in the water I quess that's the important thing. It's great that McGinty and his boys are coming to the great city of Toronto to seek out a non-reserve native to seek advice with forest plans in Nippissing. I'm sure the natives on the reserve up there appreciate your concerns for their welfare and appreciate all you do for them ...from Toronto. Must make you feel proud of all the good work you're doing so far away. Question: Did they contact you because you're a native who knows, or because you've been educated in a Canadian school and are an expert in the field. "one small step for mankind....." Don't fear me stalking your kids, never going to happen. Kids are the generation that will change the world as long as thier parents teach them that people are instincty good and mean well, and that lumping everyone into a pidgeon hole of anger towards race, colour, religion is not the teaching of a wise parent. You speak, they listen.Make your words wise. From what I've read that you write, your words of anger are not a good teaching tool.
  24. And what enviromental friendly piss hole do natives piss in? Can YOU prove that Natives ARE capable of managing land and water without help from outside their communities?
