Greg, We know you're number 2, and that's why you try harder. But who is(was) number 1?

Liberals contemplate uniting the left
Canuck E Stan replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Although I don't disagree, one has to wonder about Bob Rae's NDP/Liberal thinking and even the CAW's Buzz Hargrove's. Maybe a lot of NDPers think as they do. I believe such an alliance could work not in joining forces as a single political party but as an announced joint coalition between the two before the next election. With Harper's popularity on the rise, Canadians will see less and less of the "scary-scary" promised by the Liberals. The Conservatives will be hard to beat next go round. -

Wow.... Is this going too far?

Scientist silenced; 15 Kyoto programs axed It's amazing how the media(in this case the Toronto Star and the Globe and Mail) can mix a story related to fiction with non-fiction and make it sound like one is related to the other. My first question is, the National Press gallery a normal place for an author to launch a book of fiction? Add quotes in the story: Is Brison refering to the author of the fictional novel or the Kyoto cutback portion?Add to all this: But never revealing who these "Leading Environmentalists" or the "eight environmental groups" are.Nor explaining how these groups plan for Canada to meet its emission-cutting target under the Kyoto Protocol. One could say the media is just "trolling" their stories in order to build on getting a anti-(conservative)government response from the public. To bad today's media can't report the news without trying to "make" the news. -
I also believe Canadians don't know or trust the new Liberal "leaders". People like Michael Ignatieff will have to wait their turn for acceptance just like Harper and Manning had to. Canadians didn't know or trust Manning when he headed the Reform party, but years later he was regarded as a good political statesman. So it will be a few years before Liberal "leaders" will get approval from the Canadian public.Meanwhile the Conservatives will govern with Canadian public approval, and that will show with a majority in the next election.

That's a good part of it,but not all.As a parent of 4 teenagers life isn't too bad with my bunch. Why? 1.No cable T.V. 2.No allowances, you want, you earn- and I don't mean household chores-those are to be done because you live in this house. You want to buy,get a job. 3.I want to know where you are and with who.Your friends are always welcome at this house and overnight.Better it happens under your own roof. 4.We are not church goers, but morals and fairness are expected as a personal value from everyone in this home. 5.Siblings are more important than friends and should be treated as such when help or rescue is required. 6.Communications on a daily basis is a must.I want to know what you are doing and I CARE about it,so ask me when there is a problem, maybe I can help or offer some advice. 7.Interact,go to the game they play, see their projects, help them with their needs in school, respect their choices. 8.Love your spouse and your kids will love you both. 9.Love them, you made them, they're yours for life.

Never-ending growth plundering the earth
Canuck E Stan replied to quinton's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
August 1991 said: At the same time place an heavy environmental tax on the excessive number of Ontario and Quebec automobile owners whose cars polute the Ozone atmospere in the eastfor more days a year than not. Force them to buy small fuel efficient cars and tax the 6 and 8 cylinder vehicles to the point that they would only afford to drive the small cars or rely on transit to get them where they want to go.Tax people who drive more than 15 kilometers from their house to go to work.Give massive tax credit to those who live close to their work place, and don't use cars.Get gas up to $5 a litre so people think about living hours from their work and doing excessive driving and poluting of the atmosphere.Just little things like this would help the excessiveness. -

In my day, 30 was the limit for anything....."don't trust anyone over 30" was the cry. It must be an inflation factor or something with the "old" age being reduced to 26. Ah-hh, these young ones, what do they know.....

Here's an opportunity for governments to do something right. They seem to have a lot of money to subsidize the auto industry(we are talking the Big Three here) that builds cars and trucks that are not fuel efficient. Toyota it appears is doing it's part in fuel efficiency with their cars, and they too get bucks from the governments. Why doesn't the governments make an offer to those companies that make Hybrid cars and give them an incentive to build these cars in Canada, instead of supporting a failing auto market. We could use the hybrid car to replace the gas guzzles being built in Ontario that everyone is slowly not wanting to buy. Or for that matter, give some support to any alternative fuel car manufacturer(bio-diesel,fuel cell, natural gas). The present cost of these hybrid cars is still high in comparison to gas fuel cars, and getting $2000 off the price still doesn't make it any better price-wise to stop driving a gas fuel car that's the same size. Let's get the Hybrid business built in Canada before the demand for these cars becomes greater.

With Harper having two meetings already with Jack about the throne speech, and Layton saying nothing about the meetings, but being critical of the Liberals.I wonder if these two maybe have some plan that will bump the Libs down further in popularity and in turn boosting the NDP popularity up. Maybe Jack's hopes are of replacing the "Left" away from the Liberals. Graham doesn't seem to be able to sway anybody with his "another election" threats over the Liberal child care program that never existed. As for the CAW, former senator in waiting, and now has been NDPer, Hargrove, will, I believe, lose further support from the rank and file workers with his "federal politics agenda" as the auto industry wavers with uncertainty about the car sales. Maybe Buzz should buzz off.

The CAW and the NDP have had a love /hate relationship for a long time. With membership getting into rough waters with layoffs and poor sales, the motive for this divorce may be only to save a few bucks by not giving to the NDP and save face by not admitting so,at the same time. I don't see the membership deciding to give financial support to another party, and who else is there for this socialist minded group, the Liberals? I don't think so.

Another CBC Mockumentary So the CBC in all it's wisdom shows a Tommy Douglas mockumentary mini series pretending it's a well researched factual biography. The only problem is, it isn't. Typical of the CBC(your NDPism is showing),it is more important to use some creative licence to get their propaganda message across, just as they did with the Trudeau mini-series. One would expect historical accuracy in our movie biographies, but instead we get a creative mockumentary for our children to get false information about people in our past. I hope the Gardiner family sues DeWalt and the CBC and bans this series from ever being played as a biography

I hope Greg doesn't give me heck for posting this entire article. Yes, that is the entire article. The Ethics commissioner's statement should have been made three weeks ago,BEFORE starting an "investigation". Too bad the guy can't think without making an "investigation" first, or does he get paid by the "investigation"?

He's got the backing of a lot who think he's the most trustworthy and honest of the bunch. I think Ralph has the best potential of the bunch running so far, what do you think?
-
Looks like Bob Rae is seriously considering the Liberal Leadership. He'll tell all in a couple of days. Some think he's going to run and is setting himself up to do so. Will the Ontario voters who remember his disasterous NDP premiership from 1990-1995 forgive him and forget, or will Ontario say No to Bob Rae and his Federal Leadership bid.

The lawyer fees for the Gomery Inquiry are expected to be around $70 Million. The taxpayer has to pay this in the name of justice. Why do lawyers charge the fees they do, and how different is this billing from the Ad agencies that did the same type of billing. What makes this bunch so expensive to hire? Taxpayers on hook for AdScam fees Kinsella brings up some good points on his blog on lawyers and their "charges" March 12, 2006

Oath of Loyalty to Canadian Values
Canuck E Stan replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Nothing wrong with asking future citizens to conform to our laws and values, this might head off another attempt to bring in Sharia law. Holland is going a step further, I believe Germany is discussing it too. Holland launches the immigrant quiz Nicola Smith, Amsterdam TWO MEN kissing in a park and a topless woman bather are featured in a film that will be shown to would-be immigrants to the Netherlands. The reactions of applicants — including Muslims — will be examined to see whether they are able to accept the country’s liberal attitudes. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2089-2081496,00.html Maybe they should be shown a cartoon of Mohammed with rockets coming out of his head and see what the reaction would be. Or how about a reaction to seal clubbing or show a rock star masterbating in front of an audience. WTF is this all about, trying to get reations from immigrants? How is that a test for immigrants? -
I think he went there because he thinks his chances to win on the "roll up the rim" contest at Timmy's might be better.

Canuck E Stan replied to Hicksey's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hicksey, Not to be critical, but why must the choice be long hauling and staying away from your family for a month? The choices were made by you, and although you don't like being away from your family,it was your choice. I'm sure there are alternative choices, are there not? Or is it really about the money? -CES
