  1. Good enough, but when Vancouver can't pay the bills for 2010, who do you think gets to help out? Vancouver gets the faclilities but the all the Canadian taxpayers pays for it. Can you afford to go to Whisler to go skiing? Vancouverites get the facilities on your dime. They wanted it,they should take out loans to pay for it.
  2. That's how I view it too.Too much of a price to the city hosting the event. The problem with a lot of these facilities is that it takes big bucks to keep them in shape. Once built on a massive scale it also needs lots of upkeep and $$ for international competition standards. It becomes a money pit in maintenance costs. The Oval in Calgary needs millions today to put it back to standards, just as the Big "O" in Montreal. One location for the Olympics would allow expansion to existing at one site without having costly rebuilding everytime a new Olympics comes around. Where does all the revenue from advertising, media etc. go? and how much is made? Never did see numbers from the IOC.
  3. When is the Olympics going to become an event that occurs every four years in ONE location? The cost of rotating the Olympics in different cities becomes more expensive all the time. Why not make the summer Olympics permanently in Athens, and the winter Olympics in a city that could use the revenue to revieve a failing economy and one that has excellent winter weather conditions? Somebody is making big bucks with the Olympics(IOC?) all the while, the cities go into the hole building the facilities for years just for a two week run.
  4. Slavik44, First of all, the title of this thread is: NDP dumps Hargrove, Union leaders membership yanked. Second of all,Mike Shield of the CAW said it was hypocritical of the NDP to ban Buzz(Basil)Hargrove and not Toronto Mayor David Miller, here is the quote again: This thread is not about hypocracy in all parties,it's about the NDP and Buzz. Shields says the NDP are hypocritical in cutting his membership. I was stressing Shield's point. There is no failure on my part in recognizing hypocracy in all political parties. That's not the topic on this thread. If you think it warrrant's a thread, start one and we can discuss the issue. In the meantime,my question is as that of Mike Shields of the CAW,why are the NDP being hypocritical in only banning Buzz and not Miller?
  5. Except for the Liberals expelling 10 party members from their party for corruption, and Hargrove from the NDP,who else was expelled from a political party? Prostitution is a choice by the prostitute, expelling is done by the Party.
  6. Liberals and CPC didn't expel Hargrove, the NDP did. Why didn't they expel David Miller for the same reason? Hypocrites?
  7. NDP kicks Hargrove out of party Can anyone in the NDP say "I'm a hypocrite".
  8. With the Winter Olympics in full swing, I nominate Eddie the Eagle for Liberal leader. He could get the party soaring and send them to new heights. Eddie the Eagle
  9. That makes no sense, giving money to the party to increase voter turn out. Give incentives to the voter....the one that votes, or better yet, do the Australian way, fine people if they don't vote.
  10. Irshad Manji-From Wikipedia The woman she doesn't mention on her site(why not?)who was the first female leader of a Canadian political party, that she wrote speeches for, was Audrey McLaughlin. So I guess she's an NDPer.
  11. And when a political party(especially one in power) offers him a job that would make a difference to his constituents and his country, he'll turn it down?
  12. And how would you know that for sure?
  13. How about all the other CAW leaders at the convention that applauded Buzz when he gave Martin the Union jacket. Will the NDP take away their membership cards.......and refuse CAW money?
  14. The last time I voted the individual's name on the ballot was first,in large bold type, followed by the party in much smaller type. If anything good comes out of this, it will be legislation presented in parliament this spring that will have rules for floor crossers. A number of proposals are already in the works. I would suggest that the other Liberals thinking of crossing the floor,do so before this legislation is law.
  15. I think you need more to be a Prime Minister than knowing about Islam. She's UN material not Prime Ministerial. Her site seems to be nothing but a big pitch for her book and her ego.
  16. As long as the government pays parties $1.75 for each vote that they get there will be more of these parties showing up on your ballot box not less. The government should do away with getting involved in the voting process by giving $$ to any party. If these parties can't support themselves, they will won't exist.
  17. You listen to CBC to hear views that are "balanced"? How would you know if they were "balanced"? More likely they are views that are the same as yours. Presenting the news should be with "facts" not views. Presenting sports, with views? Sports is scores, not views. I suspect you listen to CBC for the arts more than anything, because it makes you feel like you're part of Canadian "culture".
  18. I don't know if she would make a good Prime Minister but she could do some good in the Muslim world. On her site she states: She never mentions who that was. Who was it? Kim Campbell?
  19. Geoffrey, I was hoping to give you the story of the Chretien and his homeless friend from a news source but I couldn't find one. In any case Chretien began relating tales of regularly chatting with a homeless friend (1996?), with whom he had spent time on the streets talking about homelessness and the economy. It all sounded like a nice story until some reporters discovered that it was not true and there was no homeless friend. Later on in the House opposition MP's would make references to Chretien's imaginary homeless friend when asking him questions. References to Homeless friend in Parliament
  20. You seem to make the assumption that the free vote will turn out against the gays, what if the free vote turns in their favour? With many of the Liberals,NDP, and Bloc plus a fair number of Conservatives in favour, the free vote will most likely favour gay marriage. The issue of gay marriage will then be finished for good.
  21. Harper has a long way to go to compete with the best of the best. Two screw-ups? maybe Three? How about these guys. A list of Liberal misdeeds since taking office in 1993. 1-thru-201 Still amateurs compared to these pros. He'll just have to work harder to match this bunch.
  22. I'd like to nominate one of Chretien's advisors, the man who Chretien saw daily for advice while he was in office. He could add a lot of insight with his knowledge of the world. Chretien's homeless guy.
  23. Newbie, I know you'd like to think there is some hidden agenda thing with Jason and Diane, but just read the papers, their new positions are all written about there.
  24. Belinda said in her statement that she was She didn't say which party did she?
  25. Why not? Do the math Canuck. The "math" teacher Belinda explains it so much better. Stronach blasts Emerson's defection There, now we know clearly the differences between the two defections.
