The goal here is instability. The world has already started to look to forge new alliances. The American economy will still need to import goods. On Friday I saw posts bragging about the revenue brought in by tariffs. If they're making that much money then 1) The US consumer is baring the cost 2) Manufacturing jobs aren't being created. You can't raise the price of steel and aluminum 50% and not see prices go up exponentially.
