Yup, and most native settlements were temporary. Native bands invaded each other’s settlement areas and “stole” them. The Northwest Coast Indigenous who did have permanent settlements were the biggest slave owners in Canadian history. Of course you’ll never hear about that or the fact that free public education for Indigenous was a progressive cause in its day supported by the majority of Indigenous. Why? Because today’s public education systems are run by woke activists who want you to believe that Residential Schools were a system that people like them would never have supported, when in fact they would’ve been its biggest cheerleaders. These are the folks now imposing race-based education, racist hiring practices, and gender ideology in schools.2 points

Here's another description of the insanity going on right now. " Thus it is that Miller and Trump spent the 2024 campaign depicting all migrants as dangerous criminals in order to sell mass deportations to the voters. Now, however, because there aren’t enough dangerous criminal migrants around, two-bit fascist Miller is frantically urging ICE officials to head to the nearest Home Depot and scoop up as many migrants as possible, to make those deportation numbers pleasing to the raging Audience of One. The absurdity of this is plain. As Josh Marshall notes, by definition this entails targeting day laborers—that is, going after people who want to work and whose labor is in demand, meaning it inherently constitutes the opposite of hunting for dangerous criminals. Worse, Trump and Miller are not just neglecting serious criminal migrants to target more noncriminals; to do so, they’re also actively shifting law enforcement resources away from other serious crimes, from drug trafficking to child exploitation. The Trump-Miller answer to the political problem here has been to deport as many people as possible, then label them all criminals after the fact. But that’s also not going well. The courts are standing robustly in the way. And polling data shows that while generalized deportations sometimes poll well, majorities do not support removals of longtime residents, noncriminals, and people with jobs. Voters want a law-based, orderly immigration system, but they don’t harbor Trump-Miller’s deep ideological hostility to the mere presence of undocumented immigrants, which MAGA views as itself posing a national emergency. That brings us to Los Angeles. There is zero indication that Trump’s sending in of the Guard has prevented widespread civil collapse from breaking out, as his rage-tweet claimed. Though any violence is to be condemned, the unrest has been limited to extremely contained localities in the massive land area known as Greater Los Angeles, as David Dayen’s reporting shows. Indeed, Newsom’s office tells me that according to National Guard officials it’s in touch with, most of the 2,000 National Guard troops originally sent by Trump are not even being deployed right now. “Our understanding is that there are about 1,600 soldiers waiting for orders at local armories,” a Newsom spokesperson emails. If this is true, then Trump’s claim that his dispatching of troops kept L.A. from burning down looks even more absurd. So does Trump’s decision to dispatch another 2,000 guardsmen. By the way, now that Trump has announced that he’s sending in 700 Marines as well, the L.A. Police Department has declared that this could create “an additional logistical and operational challenge” for those “safeguarding the city.” Trump is making things worse." " A majority of Canadians reject the idea they live on stolen Indigenous land, and the older people are, the more likely they are to say they don’t, according to a new public opinion poll. Among all respondents across Canada, 52 per cent said they did not live on stolen Indigenous land, with 27 per cent saying they do. The remaining 21 per cent said they didn’t know or declined to answer." Canadians reject that they live on 'stolen' Indigenous land, although new poll reveals a generational divide A higher percentage of people in the young age group reportedly think we live on stolen indigenous land. That is a good reason why the voting age should not be lowered. It appears they have been brainwashed, perhaps by the woke school system. So lowering the voting age, would give more power to young people with irrational woke ideas such as the idea that liberals push that Canadians are illegal settlers and colonials and stole the land. The truth is FNs were made up of many bands that were scattered across north America and did not occupy the large areas geographic areas which they now claim as their "traditional territory". So the claims by some FNs that thousands of square kilometers is their traditional territory is fictitious nonsense. The claims are made to get more money and control over land out of government. The BC NDP is giving in to many of their claims and is even beginning to shut down provincial parks so natives can hold so-called cultural ceremonies without the presence on non-natives.1 point

2024 Election Results Under Scrutiny as Lawsuit Advances - Newsweek Well here we go. After 4 years of democrats screaming to the High Heavens how absolutely horrible it was for trump to question the validity of the election and how childish and conspiratorial it was to question the integrity of the voting machines because there's no possible way anybody could have messed with them, The democrats are now completely 100% reversing their position and their proxy organization is launching a lawsuit which alleges that everything that the democrats said was impossible actually happened and the election was stolen If they didn't have dishonestly they'd have no honesty.1 point

Better than you apparently. You said it clearly and in plain English kiddo. And once again you are forced to try and retract something you said 15 minutes later when you realize how stupid it makes you look You have said many times now straight out that the attack was completely justified because Hamas is just defending itself against repression You are all in favor of terrorist activities provided it hurts Israel and backs Palestine and Hamas. You then complain and pretend that Israel defending itself is the same as committing atrocities. The good news is you're not alone in your views, Hamas shares them entirely. The bad news is that particular view is getting a lot of palestinians and Hamas people killed right now. Well, bad news for you I mean1 point

I love the blanket statements here... This is from 11 years ago and I bet they still train it today. When I was in Ontario, we trained with the OPP semi regularly and they even hired actors. If memory serves, the members we trained with didn't train it much more often than we did. They certainly spent way (and I mean WAY) less time at the range. Anyway, If you were to suggest that hired actors are better than Marine actors though I'd have to agree.1 point

If trump is allowed to bypass the immigration courts entirely, as he has been trying to do for months, then who is to know how long someone has been in the country? With no judicial oversight of their process, what's to stop them from next sending US citizens to these foreign concentration camps?1 point

"would" have been? In fact, WERE. They demanded it as part of their discussions with the king. Canada and John A had NO interest in it at all, but were forced to address it as part of the king's promise to the native people. And like every gov't he chose to deal with it in the cheapest and easiest way. "The christians are already running a large number of schools, tell them we'll dump the issue in their laps and pay them a small amount per kid". WAAAAY cheaper than trying to send someone to every single tribe everywhere. But it was voluntary (another thing modern teachers like to forget). And yet vast numbers of first nations people sent their kids. And their kids came home in the summers it's not like they never saw them for 4 years. Modern teachers would have you believe that John A passed the law because he hated first nations and then had soldiers go around and round up the kids and horse whipped them all the way to the interment camps residential schools.1 point

They must have had green lights by Trump. Anyhow I hope they continue their attacks, take out all those murderous leaders and mullahs until this regime is overthrown by its people.1 point
-
You're grossly exaggerating. The law and due process does allow for this for those who are less than 2 years in the country. And while trump has been pushing the limits he's not bypassing the law entirely at all. The judges have said in cases where you know the person is going to be deported back to a prison or the like then the process needs to be longer but generally speaking they haven't had a problem with the vast majority of the deportations. You guys are waving around the term due process like you just heard it yesterday and you're so excited to have a new term to play with. But you must remember the deportation is not punishment. If the government punishes somebody the processes must be different, if the government seeks to imprison somebody then the process must be different, but if all they're doing is escorting them off the property then they still absolutely have access to do process from their country of origin and they can apply to either be admitted or to make a case as to why they are already legal or whatever they want to do. There can be no doubt that trump is trying to give the absolute minimum amount of due process that he possibly can and still be lawful and sometimes he's put a foot over that line with certain individual cases, but by and large there are no mass examples of people being denied due process at all if you understand what due process is1 point

If you've been paying attention you'd know that Trump has been chipping away at immigration courts and trying to bypass them entirely. The whole point of due process in a law-based society is to prevent capricious behavior by those in power. If person can be arrested, declared illegal, declared a gang member etc and then immediately sent off to a concentation camp in a foreign puppet dictatorship, that's what no due process looks like and is fairly close to the current situation.1 point
-
No, it is an accurate description of the dishonest use of the phrase. "Due process" != years of court battles and ACLU law suits for each of every 20 million + illegal immigrants here. We have laws, we have due process, when someone is literally observed jumping the border wall, Border Patrol agents do not have to spend the next 2 years of their lives in court to deport someone with endless lawsuits and appeals. They get expedited removal, which IS due process. We have immigration courts where judges do review these cases and quickly send people on their way back to where they came from.1 point

All in my opinion, but for what it's worth: HAMAS is a reflection of the strong emotions / strong desires of many in Gaza... they want to see Israel annihilated. It's an ideology that manages to survive even in the face of striking evidence that it's a bad idea and that better options exist. Palestinians can actually have peace anytime they want it, they've even come close on occasion but so far no cigar. That sort of ideology (at a very low level) is on display here on the forum IMO. People will defend the indefensible if otherwise indefensible actions come from a party they are ideologically connected to. Use of slogans is almost always front and centre in that effort... here it takes a patently silly LMAO, duh, FFS and down vote form but it's somewhat comparable at a low level. Human nature perhaps, but a difficult thing to sway whatever the cause. That said, at the same time there's the fact that many don't like the heavy handed intrusive nature of HAMAS in their daily lives but they support them nonetheless because their ideology is a reflection of a popular objective and there is the absence of other alternatives. The other side of the intrusiveness coin (from the HAMAS perspective) is that stoking a high level of sustained hatred (and thus loyalty to the regime) is a full-time job and thirsty work. Thus the effort infects many aspects of daily life in Gaza. I think it's far more apparent now than previously, and largely as a result of those efforts. The effect of school indoctrination (as an example) shouldn't be underestimated. A weak analogy of the "why factor" may be something along the lines of liberal minded people who truly despised JT, voting liberal regardless because they didn't see, or refused to accept another option. They become so committed and invested in the ideology itself that admitting they were wrong becomes impossible. Some here will defend COVID mandates regardless of what we learn about the harms it created in the future. It's a similar but far more intense thing in Gaza and I'm not sure how that bubble gets penetrated. In the end (and IMO again), it means that If HAMAS is defeated and ceases to exist as a functioning entity, what replaces HAMAS is of real concern, there are plenty of bad actors willing to step up and there is always a danger of the replacement being something worse. BTW, that's an opinion and not an argument. I don't plan to defend it or hurl insults at those who disagree. Take it for what it's worth...1 point

Well the good news is Russia is an absolutely no position to step in and help Iran and china simply won't, so I'm sure they'll think twice about a full-on war with the US backed Israel with Donald Trump in power. I don't think iran is in much of a position militarily to go toe to toe. I'm sure they'll retaliate but we'll see how well that works for them.1 point
