This is an interesting article by Conrad Black on the over-reach of government. Governments seem to believe they have the right to intrude on everyone's personal lives and business. Conrad Black: Government has no business in the bank accounts of the nation (msn.com) These are Marxist-oriented politicians who have no respect for individual rights and freedoms.1 point

When i first got on this forum years ago, i used it to chronical my first tour in Afghanistan at the time it was the in thing to do, and there was still those that doubted my credentials, even after i was reporting on things that the media had not yet covered...it use to bother me... and then like you i just said who cares what they think, it is my career, and although a have a few things to sort out with god, I made a lot of promises and only kept a few of them it was fantastic... I think anyone that signs that dotted line, and decides to join the military, thats a huge check mark in the good column in my books....through out my career I've meet and worked with Navy guys, and Air force guys on and off the battle field, i can't count how many navy divers did EOD for us, and as the war progressed IED's got real evil...or the time we did amphibious landing training and got stuck on a navy frigate for a week, well most hang over the side puking ya respect for those guys.... I've also been pulled off the side of a mountain by an Air force Chinook with just the back ramp on the ground the rest hovering above a cliff and all while under fire... Ya i got respect for them all, right down to the cook who could turn can potatoes into a gourmet meal, after 3 weeks outside the wire, ya i salute them all...and i got all kinds of time for all who served, it's a club that does not have many rules but serving is one of them... Never be ashamed of standing up for your career, or yourself...sometimes you just got to step back , reload, attack from a different direction... My job and your job has many similarities, like that feeling you get just before you jump off into the unknown, or when the ramp drops and some one is screaming dismount dismount.... and you have milliseconds to adjust to what is outside, find cover, pick a target, and provide covering fire......we both get to see the trauma that human bodies can take, or the their condition after being hit with something big like tank canister rounds or 25 mm or 30 mm from an A-10 lots of death and destruction...you turn it on and then turn it off...or so you hope...1 point

I agree. I have only been here for about a month and have come to realize there are handful of folks that regardless of the topic will do whatever they can to disagree and insult if they can not get their way. The only one that is allowed to have an opinion is them. Ideological differences are definitely not allowed. I am ashamed I got into a bunfight about my career because the only one that it should matter to is myself and I am very proud of my work in SAR. Trying to substantiate to some was pointless and I should not have tried. I never looked at anyone through a scope so I cannot speak to or about combat arms, I normally saw their faces as we hoisted them aboard. Like you, just another civvie now.1 point

Ainsworth Dyer is another of my heroes he was a kid from my hood, the Downtown Eastside in Toronto he was a 48th Highlander before he went to the Patricia's he was my dear friend both on civvy street & in the regiment I was his instructor, I was his Section Commander, before he went Reg Force so that was the most devastating loss for me I was there when the burial party laid him in his grave I still go to his graveside at the Toronto Necropoilis whenever I am in the old neighborhood Dlieas Gu Brath1 point

If there is one thing I've learned in my military career is not everyone is going to get along, and i get that, but some of these conversations are hitting way below the belt, not that i have any influence on here or with you, i'm just like any other civvy on here. In a time when we should be banning together, and taking the fight to the Canadian public and our government showing them, that the future warriors for this nation are indeed worth the investment, and our vets deserve a lot better than we are getting now... while we squabble between ourselves we do nothing for that cause. Plenty of ways to confirm whether a person is military or not, do they talk the talk, walk the walk, know shit that only a military person would...we are fortunate here that we have members from all 3 elements on here to call out those that did not meet the standards... to protect those that did serve... like i said i have no rank , just another one of the boys with a beer in my hands...1 point

I don't normally blame conservatives for going soft on some issues that the media will completely flame them for, but Charest isn't one of those conservatives. He's just a liberal who's counting on the MSM to install him as the conservative leader imo. Amen. I think that the world would benefit from seeing a hard-working, intelligent, smart, conservative black woman like Dr Lewis elected as a conservative leader but Pierre is just better right now IMO.1 point

Your thinking is very 1995. In 1995 I would agree with you. The Liberals had it mostly right back then, but they’ve lost the plot now. They are fleecing Canadians financially and stripping constitutional rights. Half the Conservatives are also unfortunately in line with these Liberal ideas. I just listened to Jean Charest say that as Conservative leader he would support carbon taxes. He also said he thought Polievre was wrong to stand with the protesters against federal vaccine mandates. Charest and others like him are wrong. They are fat cats who aren’t impacted by the anti-democratic moves of government against protesters and the carbon taxes that are crushing families in a time of high inflation. Polievre wants to make Canada the freest country in the world. He wants to end carbon taxes. He wants to make Canada the crypto capital of the world where no government or organization can touch your stuff. I’m with Polievre.1 point

Yeah, that's exactly who I mean. Virtually everyone around here supports it by not investigating it. I was under the impression after pages and threads and forums full of right-wing outrage that under-reporting and ignoring allegations of government corruption was tacit support for that corruption. Why am I not seeing reports of Conservative politicians excoriating Trudeau in Parliament for not investigating these allegations? Are you people seeing this on your trusted news sources? Given the crickets I'd say obviously not. Why?1 point

That’s too general. First define what you mean by oligarchs. If you mean people who are incredibly successful, there’s nothing wrong with it and it should be celebrated. If you mean people who work the system illegally and are backed by government to do so, well no one on here would support that, not in clear significant ways. You want a society that frees up everyone as much as possible to apply their talents to create wealth, as that benefits everyone. Sure the state will redistribute some of it as a safety net. Fair enough. Just never squelch talent and creativity. Actually enhance it through smart, simple lessez-faire policy.1 point

It came in the context of your reply to a post directly focused on oligarchs. Why are you carrying water for the Liberals by ignoring their alleged protection of oligarch's interests? WTF is wrong with you?1 point
-
Where did that come from? I’m saying the Liberals and NDP are vested interests protecting themselves. It’s about ensuring that upward mobility remains possible for all, not protecting the powerful at the expense of workers. Workers from modest backgrounds should be able to get rich.1 point
-
No. Everything you’re talking about illustrates how the entrenched wealthy protect themselves - by making them seem just like us, regular, poor, hard-done by folk, exactly like us.1 point
-
The only reason they can do this is because we let them ignore the best tastiest fruit at the top like Black and his buddies and instead target sour over-ripe low-hangers like dumb-ass truckers and yahoos. Why are you carrying so much water for Trudeau by putting up with this? I thought you guys were big on meaningful news stories that are under-reported and kept from Canadians. There should be a Royal Commission looking into this and it should be front and center in the news just about all the time.1 point

Blunting this capacity is what Conrad Black wants most - and its shocking to me that ordinary Canadians of any political persuasion would want that too. The government has inadvertently shown us a hand we would probably never have seen if Black and the sort of scum he represents had anything to say about it - that the government does indeed have the capacity to make the business of criminal's our business and that we can do something about it. This is a teachable moment. Ignoring it would be an even bigger crime against ourselves.1 point

This from the white collar criminal who was sent to jail on the basis and strength of video evidence catching him in the act of evading accountability. The government of course, should have eyes on all the accounts of people with Conrad Black's wealth and ugly disposition towards accountability. It is with the greatest irony that Conrad Black shamelessly bases his accusations of over-reach against the very low-hanging fruit of ordinary Canadians on the plight of poor hard-done by Russian oligarchs, who one presumes are as deserving of exemption from oversight as us and of course Black himself. Black cites the lack of evidence of oligarch influence and alleged capacity to get Canadians to snow-wash their ill gotten gains to make his case which flies in the face of the most serious aspects of the allegations; that Canada's government is lax and even worse when it comes to intruding into this filthy disgraceful activity. The real issue here is the under-reach of ordinary Canadians and above all else ordinary Canadians who identify as right-wing conservatives when it comes to making our governments more accountable about who they target and more to the point who they don't target with their 'over-reach'. WTF is the matter with you people. You seem to go out of your way to make it as easy as possible for the ridiculously powerful and wealthy to get even more wealthy and powerful. How? By reducing transparency and accountability and of course shitting all over the left at every opportunity. That said...look at the name at the end of the link I provided. Why you people and the people you would elect carry so much water for this particular POS by remaining so silent about this particular issue at this particular time is beyond dystopian. WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?1 point

I hate to be a Debbie downer, but it turns out that Ukraine is the breadbasket of Europe. Their grain crops feed many in Europe, and the war will greatly impact the food supply. Now the US is battling a bird flu, culling millions of birds that won’t be available for food. Time to stock up the food pantry, people.1 point

I don't know Kanonir. If you and that other operative that all of a sudden turned up here are examples of the best the Putin regime can put together to attempt an influence on Western opinion I see why his disorganized army bully-boys are having so many problems trying to take over the Ukraine.1 point

1. America isn't a pure hearted hero in the world, but if you can provide me examples of them intentionally bombing civilian areas that would be helpful. I think most people with a brain can see the difference. 2. Never forget that this is horse-shit disinfo, set up for the onshore morons to share with each other and sow chaos and dischord. You are a disinfo agent, at least in my books...1 point
