  1. So the Trudeau government is set to ban a bunch of macho-looking rifles in Canada, even though they really don't do anything a lot of other rifles do, and even though everyone involved in policing recognizes that almost all illegal firearms come across the US border anyway. The cost will be $250 billion up front and another $150 million a year for for years. But we all know it will be a lot higher. It always is. And the reason for this billion dollars is not really a reduction in crime or the illegal use of firearms, it's to buy popularity for the Liberal party among urban progressives who know nothing about firearms except they don't like them. The government is exploiting the Nova Scotia tragedy for crass political gain despite the fact the killer had no license and used illegal weapons which can be easily obtained because the government refuses to do anything about weapons smuggling, or the illegal sale, purchase or ownership of firearms. Remember this government passed more gun control legislation in 2018 and still hasn't' implemented it because the point was to be seen to be passing the legislation. They know the legislation won't do a thing anyway, but they got the good publicity for passing it, which is all this style over substance government ever cares about. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/article-ottawas-gun-ban-to-target-ar-15-and-the-weapon-used-during/#comments

  2. So even while they lied about there being person to person transmission of the virus, China was putting the word out overseas to its agents, including the "united front" members in Canada who are Canadian citizens, telling them to grab all the masks they could and ship them 'home to the motherland'. And they complied. More than two BILLION masks were shipped to China by eager and loyal members of the Chinese diaspora in Canada, the US, Australia and Europe. Then, when the West tried to order masks China upped the price fivefold and blackmailed Western governments by giving preferential treatment in ordering to governments which towed the Chinese party line. Except ours, of course, because they're still pissed about their princess Meng being stuck here. How many members of the Chinese diaspora are loyal to China? We've been seeing warnings from CSIS for years about Chinese agents being involved in threatening and blackmailing Chinese-Canadians into doing their bidding and not talking against China. And we've done nothing. We've seen CSIS warnings that almost all Chinese language media in Canada are now controlled by China and yet we've taken no action against what is clearly a burgeoning threat to Canada's security and sovereignty. Manthorpe says a particularly troubling aspect of the United Front’s mass mobilization of Chinese immigrants for the collection of PPE is the Chinese Communist Party’s “ability to exert discipline and to demand patriotic loyalty.” “To me, it is utterly unconscionable that here are Canadians who are being intimidated and pressured in their own country by foreign agents,” Manthorpe said. “These are assaults on our sovereignty, and they are assaults on our national interest. And they are assaults on our citizens. We should not allow that.” While United Front actors have been on CSIS’s radar since 1998, Manthorpe says, networks are growing rapidly in Canada under Xi’s regime. And the current threat level was encapsulated in a 2018 CSIS report that says: “The CCP’s United Front activities incorporate co-opting elites, information management, persuasion, as well as accessing strategic information and resources. It has also frequently been a means of facilitating espionage.” https://globalnews.ca/news/6858818/coronavirus-china-united-front-canada-protective-equipment-shortage/

  3. Do you believe we should be bringing in more deadbeat dads who abuse their wives and daughters? According to the last survey 62% of Muslim women now wear some form of head covering in Canada. That number is up from 52% ten years earlier. Wearing this religious gear is, to me, a repudiation of everything secular, a statement made by the wearer that they are a Muslim first, and adhere to conservative Muslim teachings. And nothing we know about conservative Muslim teachings is good. Most of it is extremely hostile to us, our values and our beliefs. So it is not the actual garment that I don't like. It is what it says about the person wearing it and their beliefs and values.

  4. And his sudden interest in blaming China is coming about because HE is being blamed for screwing up the pandemic response and can't figure a way to blame the Democrats. God knows he has to find someone to blame because Trump has never taken responsibility for anything in his life. Action against China needs to be taken by a united West, but Trump has spent the last three and a half years attacking and insulting other western countries and leaders. Instead of involving the rest of the West in a united effort to force China into obeying international trade rules he flailed about wildly at every single trading nation from Canada to Europe to South Korea. Yes. China and Russia have moved swiftly to increase their influence around the world while Trump has still not even filled the vacancies at the State Department left when Obama's appointees left, including a quarter of ambassadorships.

  5. No, I don't find headscarves threatening. I've stated many times that they can be a cultural thing and in that sense, can be quite pretty. I don't agree with young girls being forced to wear them. They are not making the choice and I don't agree with forced wearing of them - husbands and fathers who don't allow their daughters and wives to go to school, university, have a job or leave the house without them. Yes, the niqab I view as barbaric. My views on headcoverings match quite closely to Marina Lazreg's thoughts in the book "Questioning the Veil". She's a Muslim woman, well-traveled and I defer to her insights on the topic of "choice". (I started a thread based on the book and quoted portions of her essays, if you care to read them.)

  6. I loved that response. As a Jew I also very much appreciate the point you made which when you think about it most religions teach. Your answer was excellent. Eye and I and everyone of us get hot speaking on this forum. We sound worse than we are. Had my share of exchanges with Cougar, BC, Betty, ths Godess, Eye, Argus, Wes, many more, etc. all good people but they give you their money's worth in a debate and why not. Don't worry...its just debate. The only polite ones on this forum are Michael Harder and Dialamah and that is cuz they are nudist colony supporters. Seriously welcome to the forum and keep writing away. Hey once we are on the topic back at 17 I was a real dickhead, not that I changed and I had this International Relations teacher called Peter Hidas. Our college was all communist socialist in those days in the 70's. He was a refugee from the Hungary 56 uprisin gHe had the decency to not take my anger at the world personally and taught me what happened in Hungary. It was interesting because he explained the Nazis, he explained the Russians and communists and to this day I remember his name. Over the years I met Poles, Czechs, Serbians, Sl9vaks, Croatians, Albanians, Hungarians, Ukrainians, Estonians, who would explain their anti semitic histories, and the Russians. It was hard on them to come to grips with both. Maybe there was some karma in it who knows but to someone who comes out of a Soviet bloc state their stories are sobering. We all need the reality of that system explained in real life KGB, line up for your meat terms. In Canada we take a lot of things our soldiers died for us to have for granted. I think for me travel and life have slapped some humility into me. Still an ass though lol. I have embraced people whose parents may have killed or saved my relatives. That is the thing. From the very people that hated me came others that reached out making your point close to me. It's from our enemies we make peace not allies. I am the first to be a hothead so I salute your response.

  8. You start a troll topic with the question "Why are Canadians so racist", presenting no evidence, by the way, and then you snivel about other people being judgemental? Why are Canadians "so" racist? Compared to what? "Don't make comparisons!" you cry. Which just reinforces my belief this is nothing but a troll thread so you can insult Canadians. Because you're an outsider and always will be, unwelcome and foreign.

  9. There are policies on both the left and right that I agree with, and both have policies I don't like. That doesn't put me on one side to the exclusion of the other. This thread asks what I don't like about Conservatives so that's what I'm posting. If it was about the Left, then I'd post about that, okay? Yet again, I said nothing of the sort. Knee-jerk complaints about taxes just because they're taxes is what I object to, like for instance, the way you blame provincial debt solely on "Leftist" overspending and ignore mismanagement by Conservative governments. For one example, Peter Lougheed's Heritage Fund in Alberta was something I could get behind because it's a fiscally responsible thing to do, but successive Conservative governments squandered it so that it's a mere shadow of what it could have been. For another, Saskatchewan suffered ten years of tax cuts and giveaways to corporations, and to voters at election time, by the Grant Devine Conservatives in the 1980s. When it was over, the province was $15 billion in debt (one and a half million dollars for each man, woman, child, and baby), and 14 Conservatives were convicted of fraud, eight of whom went to prison, and one committed suicide. To get out of that Marianas Trench of debt, the succeeding NDP government raised taxes and cut services (gasp!), and in three years the budget was balanced, as it was for the next seven years. Eventually, it even cut taxes (double gasp!!), not from blind ideology but because the province could afford to. Now tell me which government was fiscally responsible. It has nothing to do with political affiliation. So law and order, a good education, and a solid health care infrastructure, to name just a few benefits of taxes, are precious little to get in return? You need to be a little more appreciative of what you were born into. Whatever your bias tells you, don't apply it to me. I have no problem with my tax dollars being able to help out people who haven't had the same advantages I've had. In fact, I'd love to pay out a hundred thousand at tax time because that would mean I have five hundred thousand in the bank. I'm not greedy and selfish, and I appreciate what I get in return for the taxes I pay. They've been the best investment I've ever made

  11. I imagine your idea of "dressing as a slut" is different than most. Most offices have some sort of dress code and also most would speak to someone who wasn't dressing respectfully at work and making others uncomfortable. Assuming someone is a "slut" based on how they are dressed would be the same as assuming someone in a hijab is a terrorist.

  12. The fact they had to reach back 30 years ago, says a lot in these new ambitions, not to mention as the vice PM as said she linked domestic abuse to assault wpns as well , abuse of women and children all linked to this country having assault looking wpns…. Bill Blair states that Canada is being militarized....by having these wpns… well it's not because we are spending money on defense thats for sure.... I would not even try to reason with any lying liberals, if SNC and the countless other scandals have taught us anything people who vote for the left, honesty is not a trait they are looking for, in fact they don't give a rats ass, it's become a trait they look for... The next question is when are the conservatives going to get their shit together, and get a leader that can lead...then get rid of these pieces of garbage, that we are stuck with now.... I don't own any of these wpns, but i'm sure they are not cheap, last time I checked they with all they attachments 5they run about 5000.00 to some fetching 14,000 I wonder what fair market value is going to be.... and how much will the buy back program cost.... and would all this money not be spent fighting illegal guns...say at the borders and through theft . or is this just something to take our minds off that they had spent over 250 bil fighting the virus in the first phase....I wonder how much the 2 and or 3 rd waves are going to cost.

  16. Exactly, it has nothing to do with public safety as they state. It has everything to do with scoring cheap exploitative political points by appealing to ignorance. They have not presented one single fact to back their position on this ban. That's because the facts would illustrate just how cynical this is. The fact is that statistically Canadian gun owners are three times less likely than non gun owners to commit a crime. The fact is that no one has ever been killed by an AR15 in Canada. The fact is that the only time the Mini 14 was ever used for a mass shooting in Canada was many years ago when a nut bar Aloha Snackbar guy killed a bunch of women at a woman's school in Montreal. It actually makes a lot of sense that licensed owners would be very law abiding. If you know anything about Canadian gun laws you know that license holders are checked for negative police interactions daily. They are also subject to unannounced checks on their property and storage if deemed necessary. Ironically, law abiding Canadian gun owners are monitored far more strictly than convicted criminals who have used guns to commit their crimes. In fact, no such monitoring or checks are instituted on criminals at all. Only in Canada eh.

  18. Trudeau and Blair used the terrible tragedy in N.S. which was committed by an unlicensed criminal with illicit firearms, to push through a non evidence based law by by-passing democracy and Parliament. Yes other leaders have used an O in C for other legislation, but this is a minority gov't exploiting a tragedy and pandemic resulting in Parliament not sitting. Non evidence as they have not provided us with a shred of evidence that this will stop criminals from using illegal guns. Even if you are no fan of guns, every Canadian should be outraged that our democracy is being subverted and that their government is lying to them about what their actions will accomplish. Why is the gov’t stating that military grade firearms are available in Canada legally when they are not, automatic weapons as used by the military are allready banned. The magazine size and capabilities of military weapons are allready prohibited in Canada.

  19. 1. Gun laws do not work. Criminals do not care about gun laws. Hundreds of billions of our tax dollars have being blown every year on a bunch of useless and stupid gun laws, and there appears that many Canadians want even more gun laws. A sheer sign of Canadian stupidity. But then again whoever said that Canadians were all that smart anyway? I am pretty sure that one more gun law will stop all of these sad shootings. Chuckle-chuckle. 2. Our whole system is becoming a failure. The disease of liberalism is starting to affect most Canadians brains now. They appear to be coming totally clueless about anything and that is just the way their dear leftist liberal leaders want them to become. Totally dependent on them to run their hopeless lives. 3. The whole country appears to be going totally mental. Most Canadians do appear as though they do need real mental help. They appear to not know as to how to think for themselves at all anymore. The liberals are enjoying their status once again thanks to those buffoons who put them back into power. The problem with most dumb Canadians is that the only time they get somewhat interested in politics is at election time. After that, it is back to business as usual, sans politics. How cannot the liberals be happy with the people who keep acting like a bunch of dumb asses.

  20. If "enjoying the freedoms and benefits of Western culture while honouring her cultural heritage" looks the way I imagine it looks like to so many islamophobes, racists and other intolerant and narrow-minded individuals, then I would probably be a bit uncomfortable. I dislike it when some women make hijab a piece of cloth, wrapped negligently around one's head, indifferent to whether it actually covers the hair, chest, neck or the ears and indifferent to what other body parts should be covered.

  21. Canada took in 30,000 Chinese last year. Given China is a police state no real background checks were possible using the means Canada does (ie, consulting local police for criminal records, verifying university transcripts, checking his employers). Without greatly increasing the budget and manpower for CIC to do in-person background checks on potential immigrants we are allowing in the equivalent of ten regiments of Chinese soldiers into Canada each year and know almost nothing about any of them. We know that some, clearly, retain their loyalty to China, a hostile foreign power. We know some others are spies, either because they were sent here as spies or because Chinese agents might order them to operate on their behalf with threats to their family back home. We know from CSIS that China is doing its best to influence these people, that it controls most Chinese language media here and has its claws, if not outright control into Chinese community associations as well as Chinese-Canadian businessmen who operate both here and in China (and thus have to obey). So yes, without very careful validation of who these people are we ought to stop immigration from China. It is growing more hostile by the year, and rapidly turning into an enemy of Canada's and the West.

  22. Historically, both garments (hijabs and burkas) have the purpose of denigrating and subjugating women, separating human beings by gender in order to keep women under male domination and under religious control. They have both proven detrimental to women, to children, to men and boys and to the societies that use them for their intended purpose. So no, it's not "all in his head". I don't think too many people are uncomfortable with a woman in a hijab who looks like she is also enjoying the freedoms and benefits of Western culture while honouring her cultural heritage. It bothers people to see a woman completely covered up and clearly being subjugated BECAUSE she is a woman - that indicates a set of beliefs and values that is at cross purposes with Western values of gender equality. That some women "choose" this, does not make it any less denigrating to anyone of the female gender. When women choose a garment that advocates her supposed lower status in society - it affects ALL women. So it is important that when a woman chooses such a controversial garment with such a bloody history, she understands completely the choice she is making, WHY she is making that choice and how it will affect herself and other women. I find this educating oneself before making the "choice" to wear these garments, quite lacking.

  23. It sucks for all governments that they're forced again to plunge into keynesian economics. But like in 2008, the alternative is catastrophe. If people are told to stay home, you'd better support them or that's cruel. What sucks more is that we've had 10 years of somewhat robust growth, and almost no governments took advantage of it by balancing their books. At this point, deficit spending is just a matter of course most parties don't have the stomach to institute drastic austerity. Right-Wing USA is the worst at it, deficits have ballooned under Trump.

  25. Without a doubt the most stupid of attempts to inflamme yet. Why would the US not want every country in the world except its own to be unarmed? In spit of the idiotic attempts to troll and ignoring those attempts on the topic of the proposed gun control I would say this: 1- the current Firearms Act does NOT make a distinction between what is called a"miitary-style" weapon and other long guns or what are commonly called rifles; when politicians like Trudeau trow out he word "assault rifle" they do not specify what they mean by that because they have no idea what actual caliber rifle they mean- any rifle, any long arm, in a general sense is an assault rifle in that it kills; 3-when the media presents stories on mass killings with gunmen, it uses the word "assault rifle". I would then argue because of 1-3, before I render any comment about proposed changes to the law, I want to see the wording as to what will be defined as an assault rifle. Trudeau caims there will be a ban of 1,500 categories of rifles he claims are only used to kill people. How he determined this is unknown. Interestingly as of 2018, the Small Arms Survey said there were an estimated 34.7 firearms per 100 people of "licensed" weapons. That is one of the highest rates in the world but lower than the US which was in 2018 120 guns per 100 people. That does not break it down to specific weapons I am no gun lover. However I do also listen to certain hunting associations and gun club associations whose principal representatives understand different firearms and do NOT glorify them. They make two basic arguments to date Trudeau has ignored: 1-the ban Trudeau has been proposing for quite some time would not stop a mad man from obtaining the weapons being banned illegally; 2-the ban would not stop someone from taking a legally obtained long arm and re-calibrating it to become more rapid fire and as deadly as the ones that "might" be banned. Trudeau to date according to the gun club and hunting lobbies to date did NOT consult with them on such issues. So I want to now know, how did he come up with his list of 1,500, and how did he determine as he said, they can only be used to kill people. Until I see that list and how he rendered his conclusion, I do NOT simply take his word for it. I have only used a 22, and an Uzi. I have handled am M-16 and the damn thing was plastic and I would not use it. I also knew the Russian kalashnikov rifle was a favourite of many Israeli soldiers and others. I personally defer to someone like Army Guy or other military or police or gun club owners or hunting associations on actual rifles and which ones are more or less dangerous. Sorry do not ask me to simply accept what Trudeau says. The timing of this ban was clearly done as a reaction to the Nova Scotia murders. That timing smells of political exploitation of a tragedy to make political brownie points and policies based on fear and ignorance. While I like many personally think hand guns only belong at gun clubs and rifles should be an instrument of necessity for hunters and rural dwellers until I see better explanation than a vague statement that these rifles have no use other than for killing people, I will reserve judgement. Given the sheer volume of stupid knee jerk reactions Trudeau jumps on the band wagon to get brownie points from, I have stopped taking anything he says seriously. Having this man tell me what a dangerous weapon is, is a joke as far as I am concerned. He has zero credibility. He is a sheltered Mama's boy. Excuse me if I defer to others with actual expertise in weapons. That said, I hate assault weapons. I worry about police on traffic stops and on domestic conflict calls. I don't want them shot dead. I am just not sure this ban is anything but a feel good exercise.

  26. Yes and no...Europe did "listen to him" concerning increased NATO spending, ISIS engagement, import tariffs, and unfettered immigration (indirectly). Trump remains hated for other policies from climate change to travel bans and personal demeanor. Trump has also forced the EU to take a good look at itself and home grown fractures that were hidden by previous assumptions about American military and economic cover. The rise of right wing elements in Europe readily embraces Trump, as did many of the UK's Brexiteers. President Trump is only a symptom and backlash against the perceived and real failings of the past due to globalism and disenfranchised voters in the U.S. Canada has its own love-hate relationship not only with Trump, but with any American administration that continues to have such an impact on trade and foreign policy. China's influence also grew during the Obama presidency, because there was little that American influence would or could counter. China purposely seeks to dominate areas that have less American interests, expanding influence into Asia, Africa, Central and South America. Other nations are going to have to learn to deal with a more powerful China with less whining about how much the U.S. is not providing "leadership" they seemingly can't cope without.

  27. No doubt there are some people like coming to Canada. There are also white anglo deadbeat dads who abuse their daughters and wives and they're just as bad or worse. Honestly though it seems weird to me that some people in the West get themselves so twisted up over what some Muslim women where on their heads. Most of them don't even know what a hjab is. That word is just a rallying cry for the same old tired anti-Muslim rhetoric. Do you really find headscarves threatening? No doubt you're more concerned with the niqab, and while I at least understand the suspicion around that (not agree, mind you), there's a bit more to it than just a barbaric repression of womanhood. As a secular person, I don't really like it and DO agree that it's silly and backwards and totally impractical, but then from what I've read not every woman who wears it resents it.

  30. Self determination is always a good idea. What you do with it is another story. I'll borrow Genesys' words for this post. Trudeau is selling Canada by the pound. You are using a wrong example. Trudeau lays a silver plate of total forgiveness to terrorists while he is pooping in the war veterans' plates. It might be a very bad use of the self determination but, it's not making the self determination illegitimated. La nuance est importante.

  31. Agreed, but Canada has been very naive to expect otherwise and depend on a USA that has such domestic and foreign policies. China has exposed Canada to the realities of global competition and power, forced to acknowledge the old "post WW2 order" is breaking down. Trudeau and Freeland are living in a past that no longer exists....America cannot and will not continue the "Grand Bargain" as before. If America diverted military spending to domestic programs instead, it would still be criticized by Canada/NATO/EU. In the end, the U.S. will have to live with its choices, and Canada will have to live with its own. Edited to add: More immigrants still prefer the U.S. over Canada...for over 100 years.

With a high alert of mental health issues due to the Covid-19 outbreak, many people have been experiencing increased mental health issues like our veterans who fought in the Middle East wars. Do you have any sympathy for the Canadian Veterans and their families who lost loved ones? I've seen this point in regard to other groups as well - I mentioned those who have fled Islamic persecution, only to find themselves having to listen to Allahu Akbar loudspeaker'ed through their neighbourhood 5 times a day. As the above article pointed out - these are usually the last words victims of Islamic terrorism hear, which is unsettling to many. Again, these points will mean nothing to those who place more importance on the religious rights of Muslims, than the rights of those who have been persecuted and killed in the name of Islam.

  35. Why is it that some people that flee oppression and terrible systems after a few years in the west they start complaining about the system here ? The nation is like a house. Canada is a house, you or your family made a decision to come here like my family. Why is it that your instinct is to change and criticize the house ? and is not to adapt to how the house is ? Because contrary to other houses I think Canada is too welcoming. Stop complaining. Get a job (any work is decent, I started lifting boxes and working in greenhouses), pay your taxes and pass something positive to someone else. Is hard to do that when all day you are surrounded by people that tell you the reason you are not doing well is because of R A C I S M. Is it Israeli propaganda that women in Iran were jailed for taking off their own religious headdress? No, it isn't. Is it Israeli propagada that women who don't wear a hijab in many muslim countries risk their lives? Risk being raped? Face certain harrassment and most likely physical abuse? Nope.
