Entitled refugees? Yes, it seems so. There is an ironic story in the G&M today undoubtedly designed to raise sympathy for the plight of poor refugees trying to find housing in Toronto. It fails badly. The immediate focus, a refugee from Afghanistan, is totally unsympathetic. She whines about her housing and the money she's given and says if she knew things would be like this she'd have stayed in Turkey or back in Afghanistan. Rents are too high here and she isn't being given enough money! Then there's the Syrian refugee and his wife and five kids. He's thinking of moving, but darn it all, he wants to live around Muslims where his wife and daughter won't be stared at in their hijabs. And another Afghani who came here six years ago and is still living in his subsidized bachelor apartment, only now with a wife and toddler. He's on the list for a bigger place but there's only so much subsidized housing to go around, what with so many new refugees coming in every day. What an absolute mess the Liberals are creating with mass immigration, huge numbers of refugees, hundreds of thousands of foreign students and hundreds of thousands of temporary foreign workers, all seeking cheap housing. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-newcomers-to-canada-struggle-amid-torontos-housing-crisis/#comments1 point

Makes perfect sense. The "imminent threat" he and pence constantly decline to provide evidence of was not from Iran at all!1 point

Yup, it'll probably take a real effort to stop being an ass-hole. We still can't seem to do without that LAV contract with Saudi Arabia for example. I honestly don't think we have what it takes but I choose to live in hope. I still think assessing a cost benefit analysis would be a useful exercise and you never know you just might convince even more people that the economy must transcend virtue at all costs.1 point

Before we talk about forcing people to get the mental health treatment they don't want we should at least have enough doctors to treat the people who do.1 point

Yes the the Iran government is an ass-hole. Get back to us when they start knocking off elected governments and installing dictators in countries halfway around the world. You're right, there is no equivalence.1 point

These people should be given the option of a paid ticket back to their home country if they feel like their life would be better there. I would have no problem using tax money for that kind of thing.1 point

I've never heard you have a problem with it. Ever. I think the Iranians had a right to shoot down a drown over their air space. That's probably why nothing was done about it afterwards. I'm not sure what terrorist attacks inside Iran you're referring to. But Iran is the master of terrorist attacks within the Middle East. Yeah, attacking another country, and it's oil field is a big f*cking deal. Hence, OMG, OMG. No, Iran has terrorist groups in other countries, so yes, OMG, OMG. I'm sure if America attacked Iranian oil fields, you'd have quite a lot to say. Btw, you forgot about Iran stopping American ships in the straight, illegally. I know, I know though, Iran gets to do whatever it wants. And if American responds than it's in the wrong, as usual. Continue to worship your Mullahs.1 point

Lines have already been drawn in the sand Marcus, man up, pick a side, don't like the side your on, pack up your shit and move...it is that simple need a ticket send me your address and i'll send you one...This mad man is reasonable for killing thousands of Americans, and other NATO troops. Sanctions have been working against Iran, because they slow Iran's military buildup and restricts the amount of money that they have to spend on terrorism abroad. Recruiting, propaganda, tech to communicate covertly, training, brainwashing all cost money. You just called anyone who disagrees with you a Trumpophant in your last post and now you're whining about ad hominem attacks? Cry me a river Boges. You're name-calling like a child.1 point

Appeasement doesn’t work on religious zealots, megalomaniacs, psychos, etc. They only see their own power and the relative strength/weakness of others. They see your kindness as weakness. Do you think Iran would stop attacking if Trump didn’t kill sulamani? Do you think that the countries of the civilized world could stop spending trillions per year to combat terrorism? Could we all just waltz onto planes with metal in our pockets? Wake up.1 point

It's not that simple. This is not a fight with Iran and US. You are ignoring everyone and everything else.1 point

Reality and theory...reality unfortunately tempers theory. When we need to ally with stinkers for the greater good is the debate of course. In the ME the choices of allies is limited. It is of course all part of the game of hegemony with China and Russia. The US appears to have sent a strong message to China, Russia, North Korea not just Iran. Trump it appears is the good cop in the good cop bad cop routine being played out. Substance not rhetoric is the key. Substance in this case is the US responding strategically in the South China seas and now with Iran. It's far more important to watch actual US responses and actions as opposed to Trump rhetoric. The US responses make it clear they will contain Russia and China and their proxy colonies and not rely on any support from the EU with Israel agreeing to lay low now the US has reappeared in the ME as police officer. This also sent a signal to Saudi Arabia and Egypt the US had not abandon them. Both allies were alienated by Trump sucking up to Erdogan. Any thoughts Erdogan had of sucking up to Iran and Russia in the ME has also been responded to. In fact it is also possible China did not mind Iran getting a slap down either. Iran has been financing Muslim uprisings in China. Who knows the real story beneath these decisions. We can only speculate.1 point

If Canada weren't secular they could ban all Muslims and non-Christians and jail the non-Christian non-believers that already live here. You know, like they do in a bunch of non-secular Muslim middle east countries. Is that what you want? I doubt it. The middle-east is filled with a ton of trash governments with some of the worst human rights records. It's illegal to dance or play music in public in Saudi Arabia. These governments are nutters.1 point

A friend of mine from Iraq has kept up with the news in Iraq that the world was ignoring. Protests have been going on by students to get the President to be removed. The Iranians have been present in Iraq due to the lack of supports of the West. The protestors didn't want the involvement of Iran but they were the only ones getting involved. The Iraqis wanted the U.S. (and the West, in general) to help by OVERLOOKING the changes the protestors were demanding, NOT sending troops to simply fight for Iran. The only thing that got attention (not by these protestors against the Iraqi govenment) was the attack on the U.S. Embassy. So the Iraqis are only still being screwed given they want to shape their own country on their own terms democratically (and secularly so) but cannot where the problems escalate into another war unwelcomed there. The Iranians were there ONLY due to a vaccuum created in them being unable to fight ISIS alone. The above video is only its second appeal to the English world. I saw the first and commented that I was confuse about their set up. If it is for an English audience I wanted to alert them to fix HOW the program was staged or risk some assuming the site as a potential recruitment. This guy is a comedian in the style of our own late night talkshow entertainers who present news issues in comedy. So maybe this might help some get some background on what was missed while too many other issues were at stake around the world. As to the reason the U.S. (and the West in general) were not noticing, this was due to the reasonable fear that Trump may intend to utilize war measures to save his upcoming election in light of the recent impeachment. I tried to console my friend in his own concern why Iraq news was being overlooked. The recent events with Trump's announcement to counterthreaten Iran is why. There seems to be a problem being able to ask for help by anyone when it always has to require an American dying to get it. And this only TEACHES the terrorists this is what works. So pay attention to the Iraqis guys. They are the ones going to suffer more here and only attract more terrorists.1 point

You are comparing things that are universally wrong and harmful to things that are universally good. Are you saying that an uncovered woman is like a smoker or a liar? That is a judgement on your part. Other Muslims say it is not a command. No. They came there to hear his opinion on that. They basically ask for that information by attending. It would be rare exceptional circumstance where you would be entitled to tell another Muslim what they should or should not be doing. Do Muslims lose their right to privacy and self-determination when they join the religion? I told an experience of a friend of mine who worked with quite a few Muslim women and one did not cover. The others harassed her mercilessly for it and my friend supported her. I was told that that does not happen and that my friend was lying. Now you are saying that Muslims have a right to harass each other for what they do or do not do. ??? You don't know what I know or don't know. My attitude is critical towards all religions because I have dealt extensively with the damage it does to people. Religions all use the same tactics with slight variations on the details. Your's is no different. Well, you and the other one here assume all the time that because some of us are critical of Islam that we randomly go about criticizing and yanking off hijabs....... Is covering a choice or not? If it's a choice, then a woman who is uncovered should be allowed to be uncovered without anyone shaming or humiliating her or telling her she must cover to be saved.1 point

On picking winners and losers, I’ve come to the conclusion that, apart from collecting its percentage to pay for our safety net, government should get out of the way on a number of fronts, such as on mobile phone coverage and granting pot retail licenses. Let the competition in and let providers build and provide as much supply as the market will bear. Our cell phone costs are outrageous and we have as many pot retailers in Ontario as Newfoundland because they’ve created restrictions on the number of licenses instead of just ensuring that retailers meet the regulatory criteria. The government protects the Bell and Rogers cell phone duopoly with no benefit to consumers. Their infrastructure is laid out, they own major sports teams, and are basically collecting high rent from consumers because they’re the only game in town. Wind and other small operators are renting from Bell/Rogers. The same thing happened when the Ontario government put out bids for the Niagara casino. Because government decided that only one proposal could be accepted, others had to be rejected, which led to the government “picking” their favourite, which wasn’t even close to the best option for the community. I say let all interested parties build and consumers will spend where they see fit. The lousy operations will close naturally. This is why we have so many mediocre venues: Government steps in to award contracts, which leads to influence peddling, nepotism, and fewer options for consumers. We’re over-regulated by bureaucracies like the CRTC that create roadblocks to lower prices in the name of protecting Canadian big corporate entities and culture which they attempt to define.1 point

You don't have a right to say that to individuals. When you say they "should" cover, you're automatically making a judgment that being uncovered is inferior. If YOU feel that YOU should cover, you are free to do that. You are NOT free to tell other women that they "should" cover - even other Muslims. Now, "some" people here will accuse me of telling women they should NOT cover. I do not do that to individuals. Here, we are on a discussion forum discussing the very subject and I am allowed to have and express my opinion. The same as you do - HERE you can say that "Women should cover" but you should be prepared to say why and have others disagree. When you tell individual women that they "should" cover, you are both making a judgment that uncovered women are not doing something they "should" be doing AND you are pressuring others to follow what you believe. Have your opinion or belief. But keep it to yourself unless you are asked. Or are on a discussion forum.1 point

Your statement is meaningless mush. Any power carried out by any elected public official is subject to limits as set out by the law. No elected official is above the law when they represent that or any other laws. No elected official with a conflict of interest should enforce or comment on any law or policy they have a conflicted interest with. Get back to me when you understand your beloved leader is not some cultist messianic God with unlimited powers the very thing the US was created to rebel against. You Trump cult followers have created a new King George. What a joke.1 point

No. I'm not outraged at all about that currently. But what about the hundreds of thousands that have been killed, maimed and forced into living in misery because of Iranian actions? Regardless, we're talking about actions that have taken place more recently. Illegal actions by Iran. But they always get a pass from you people, not matter what, and no matter when. Sometimes a deficit is required, such as when the economy requires stimulation. Raising taxes and / or reducing spending can make a recession worse. It is the voters who are in the driver's seat. If they want low taxes and big spending, the government is obliged to comply. "Democracy is the philosophy the people should get the government they want...good and hard." H.L. Menken.1 point

Study some history to address your question why appeasement does not work any more than you form an alluancecwith some who tried to or who was a raped you. Your question is naive. No you do not appease people it empowers them to keep doing their bad . There is a time to stand tall and say to a religious fundamental fanatic regime financing terror operations worldwide and building a nuke weapon, that enough is enough. Oh yoohoo Mr. Rapist, how about you say sorry and we can teach you consent. Are you serious? Your naivety is absurd. Last thing you do is appease a bully ...all that does is rearm them.1 point

Appeasement is the term. It is a passive response that tries to turn a terrorist into a misunderstood peasant in need of love. It is the product of a defensive imagination of a sheltered privileged rich boy making the boogy man nice.Lol this is not a CBC kids show. Let us have a cultural exchange with the very people who define Proud Conservative as a morally corrupt monkey who needs to be removed off the planet. Hi Omar my name is Biff Whitebread and I am from Shelteredview, Ontario. Hey now. We have people that have have brown skin. They dance well and rap. Now explain to us how I can marry more than 1 wife, and we can stone gays and lesbians, arrest and torture trade unionists, journalists, students, faculty. The Iranians do it, so us too! Iranians believe all Jews on the planet must be whipped out in a holy war, women stoned to death and my favourite, anyone not a Shiite Muslim is defined as having no right to own land, no legal rights, and not allowed to do business unles by using one Muslim to pass on the message, no direct talking to Muslims allowed. What a quaint cultural exchange. Maybe we can get some property stolen from Kurds, Jews, Bahaiis, Zoroastrians, Yazidis, Christians, they tortured and killed. Share culture..well they enjoy sodomy. Go have an exchange.1 point

1) You're no conservative dude, you just have this fake account that says you're a conservative because you think that it gives your anti-conservative comments credibility. It doesn't. 2) Iran is like the mecca of terrorism. Their Quds force is deicated to terrorism and the destruction of Israel. It provides leadership and support for terrorists all over the world. Their leader is responsible for murders, turture and terrorism all over the world. Your support of his right to continue doing his dirty work is duly noted. 3) Who benefits when the leaders of the biggest terrorist orgs on the planet die? How about everyone? They can't reach their potential with guys like Soleimani in such a position of power. Care to guess again? Soleimani was killed in Iraq, ie on foreign soil. Not Iran. If the Iranians could stop funding terrorism, stop threatening everyone, stop attacking everyone, stop pushing their nuclear agenda then obviously there would be no need for this. Iran got cocky, they killed an American, that's not how you deal with Trump. The Iranian people should be happy that Trump didn't try to turn this into a war where a bunch of peons on both sides die. Trump has effectively targeted the #1 in islamic state, the #2 in islamic state and now the #1 in Quds. The number of innocent Iranians, Iraqis and Syrians that died under Trump's Presidency has been almost zero, especially compared to what happened under Obama. And this is during actual warfare. The leadership of terrorist groups are starting to get the picture that it's not just the peons that are dying. The people who are calling the shots will be less likely to call the shots now that they know the bell tolls for them. Of course Trudeau won't do anything to Iran. If he had his choice he'd be on their side. Trudeau stopped the bombing of islamic state immediately when he took over. Trudeau ran cover for the genocide in Syria when everyone else in the world was acknowledging it. Trudeau paid a terrorist who killed an American $10.5M. Trudeau is giving islamic state terrorists (he just calls them "fighters") the right to come back to Canada and walk free among us. Trudeau is bringing in people who openly support terrorism and he refuses to say anything about Al Quds Day hate rallies. Trudeau supports terrorism in every way that he possibly can, all the time. This right here is proof positive of your true colours. I could make an account called "TrueCanadianLiberal" and then call out Trudeau for all his crimes, call out the CBC for all their blatant bias and idiocy, but I just can't be that much of a weasel.1 point

Iraq was an invasion and a regime change. Doing so with Iran would be stupid. There's zero evidence of that ever happening in Iran. But if Iran is planning to kill Americans you can't just let them do it, the US gov has to retaliate and protect those Americans. Seems like basic international relations to me.1 point
-
Iran is not an actor of good faith and has been attacking Americans and US interests and allegedly planning to attack more Americans in Iraq. Iran and Soleimani planning to attack Americans in Iraq is an act of war, so if anyone starts a war it would be the Iranians in this case, if those allegations are true. Some US retaliation was necessary, but i'm no expert on what went down in Iraq and am not privy to CIA intel so it's hard to tell who was in the right or wrong without knowing all the details. Trump isn't one to start assassinating foreign government officials on a whim though, he's more tough talk than action usually, I suspect something very serious was going down in Iraq to elicit this response by Trump. There will be no full-scale war with Iran. Iran wouldn't stand a chance, unless the US did something stupid like invade Iran. Trump isn't a war-monger, he's not interested in invasions, but he is interested in showing Iran who's boss, and he certainly did that. If Iran wants to play tit-for-tat with the US, they'll lose. Trump knows this an is acting accordingly. Same with North Korea.1 point

Reading back your comments they are classic leftist lst or 2nd year university rhetoric. The Israel throw in makes that clear. York U to be exact. A decision to take someone out requires many people to agree and in particular the joint chief of staff of the armed forces who have underlings initiate and propose such options. Trump is the final say but did not initiate the strike and you and I do not know the intelligence reports gathered that precipitated this decision.1 point

It's always good to forget that my father and his brothers were all in the RCAF...you know...Canada. That would be blowing-up Nazis and things related to that. In my father's case, swapping engines on Lancasters and Halifaxes. Some of the 13th SS were the last to die as they defended the Reichstag from Soviet armies. I'm not questioning the loyalty of the Muslim troops. They fought to the death for their Führer. Had Hitler won, the Mufti would've been a hero, the Jews would all be dead and the Russians would be slaving in the fields growing wheat for Germany...a perfect world for some. Alas...for the Mufti's supporters...that didn't happen. His plans to bring his Holocaust activities to British Palestine didn't happen. Mostly due to Rommel losing at El Alamein. Islam seeing eye to eye with the Nazis isn't a big surprise. Both hate Jews and want them all dead...fellow travelers in ideology. The Mufti, since you seem ignorant of his activities, was responsible for the Holocaust taking place in Axis Minor countries...such as Hungary...as well as killing Tito's partisans.1 point
