Yes, right now because of increasingly toxic level of racism and white supremacy among low-skilled, precariously employed Canadians, encouraged by ruthless conservative politicians who create fear and hatred of 'other' to keep low-skilled, precariously employed Canadians fearful and subservient. Regarding your ship-the-newbies-to-the-north idea, are you suggesting creating another category of immigration for them? Increasing immigration? Reducing numbers accepted through the points system? (And why would we reduce numbers of skilled immigrants?) You speak of improving viability of remote northern communities, then of jobs in the north but ... the communities with viability issues are not the ones near the resource jobs. It still makes no sense to me. Please explain again why you want to send new immigrants to remote northern communities? Is it just a NIMBY thing, 'get them out of my city'? And ... I think you misspoke: We don't have different categories of "citizenship", but just different routes to immigrate to Canada.2 points

I just want to review the bizarre illogic used by these authors: 1) Immigrants (5.7m 1985 to present) earn less, on average, than other Canadians, so they pay $4,900 less income tax on average ($13,100) than other Canadians ($18,000), referred to as a "shortfall" of $4,900 pp. (Calculated @2009 rates) 2) According to the authors, immigrants thus cause a (5.7m x $4,900 ~$28b) ~ "$30b shortfall" per year in income tax revenues for Canada. ???!!! Actually, no. Those 5.7m immigrants since 1985 actually add (5.7m x $13,100) + $75b per year to Canada's income tax revenues. See the faulty logic? If those 5.7m immigrants were not here, they would be contributing 0 to Canada's income tax revenues. Instead, we get $75b per year. In the final paragraph, the authors essentially suggest that immigration should stop, because it causes overcrowding (homes, schools, roads), and a revenue "shortfall" ... which is ridiculous nonsense: Adding $75b/year to Canada's revenues is in no way a "shortfall". I can't imagine what the Financial Post is thinking, publishing crappy xenophobic propaganda like this.2 points

I somewhat agree with you on this. It’s where the left is dipping into fascist bans on freedom of religion. We’re seeing it in Quebec. Rather than bans on government workers wearing religious symbols I’d far rather see all people feel free to express their faiths. Bring on the Christmas trees and nativity scenes at Christmas, the menorahs at Hanukkah, and the feasting at Eid. That’s a far healthier democratic way to be than to suppress religious expression like a communist country.2 points

Infrastructure needs to be updated all the time. It's inevitable. It's not a bad thing. Infrastructure is one of the top job creating areas in most countries. Baby boomers are retiring at a much higher rate than we're having children. There are two outcomes: 1) Baby boomers are no longer doing the jobs they were doing and there is a smaller percentage taking their places. This is why we have so much need for skilled workers. This is not some bs conspiracy - it's the truth. 2) When more taxpayers retire than people taking their spots, it means that we have less people paying taxes. When they retire, their costs go up, especially for social and medical services. Until we have automation and more robots that can take the place of humans to do work, we need replacements for people who are retiring or dying. This is simple economics. Without immigration, this is not going to be realized. Majority of the immigrants that are coming into Canada are coming through the skilled worker programs. These are people who are under 35, with savings and most importantly, with skills that we need. A perfect example of this are the east coast provinces. Look at their economies. They're stale. There is debt. There is no economic activity. This is not because of immigration. This is because people are getting older and there aren't enough people who are replacing them. Here is a comparison between 2nd generation (children of people who migrated to Canada) from West Asian/Arab countries, compared to 2nd generation whites - This is something I shared with Argus after he continued on about how Arab/Asian immigrants don't do as well as White immigrants: You're blaming this on immigration? Weak. Better planning and policies are needed to tackle these issues. For example, in Alberta, there is a stretch of highway 1, where they have created overpasses for wildlife to bypass the traffic. The number of wildlife being hit by vehicles has gone down drastically. Canada has been experiencing these new waves of immigration for a long time. It's nothing new. The reason why you think our culture is in danger is because you've consumed yourself with anti-immigration sentiment and are in an alert mode because of what you surround yourself with. I live in one of the most diverse cities in Canada: Vancouver. I've also lived in Regina, one of the least diverse cities. At least it used to be. I can tell you that Vancouver is a much better place to live. Personally, I love seeing new cultures. New food. New stores. New energy. Life would be so boring if there was no change. The Silk Road, connecting Asia and Europe was one of the most important part of our planet's history. It brought different cultures together. Ideas were exchanged. Ideas were adopted. Ideas were improved. Life will NEVER stand still. Everything is always changing and in some cases, improving. We need to focus on how to make sure that the inevitable change happens in a positive way. Costing us $30 billion a year? Can you validate this? You're too afraid of the others. Next time you're in Vancouver, I want to take you out for some food. Food is the best way to connect with people from other cultures. Talk to these people. Get to know them. We're all the same. All people want is to live a happy and secure life. Don't let stereotypes and ignorance poison your view of people. Over 99.9% of people you see every day, it doesn't matter where they're from, are good people.2 points

Yes and 98% of those jobs are created where yu wish to ban new immigrants. This means 100,000 new arrivals will have to move where there are no jobs for them waiting. Unemployed for 3 years on social assistant programs.1 point

Again, the F-35 is the best option for countries which need tactical air forces, Canada, like New Zealand, could decide to jettison that capability altogether, but if Canada is going to have a tactical air force, anything other than F-35 would be a huge mistake. F-35 will also be the cheapest to operate in the long run, military hardware costs are all about economies of scale, the bigger the fleet, the better the economy. Canada often chooses what are called Orphaned Fleets, like the SSK-876 Victoria class submarines for example, this is classic Canadian penny wise pound foolishness, which wastes money by the billions, The opposition to F-35 is just more knee jerk Canadian Anti-Americanism and pandering to the Canadian left, who don't want a military at all, hence why they've spent the last fifty years trying to dismantle it. Here by the way, is the Americans operating F-35 from remote austere forward operating location, the F-35 is the choice of the Norwegians in the remote Nordic regions, the Marine Corps for Expeditionary Warfare, but USAF can do it too.1 point

Again while I think you are insane and weird someone should read you carefully. You again state dead on what is fact. Conventional armies have been replaced with small rapidly mobile elite specially trained units. With today's technology having large, loud slow moving poorly trained soldiers and complex logistic support lines which are sitting ducks for guerillas is outmoded. People who talk about wars and invasions do not understand the cost of huge slow moving armies compared to elite fast moving units, aircraft, drones,. Warfare has changed. Soon we will have dna cloned soldiers all looking like Justin Trudeau as well but that is another story. Now I have argued from the get go as have some others on this forum that the Griphen was the best jet per cost and money. However if they had intended to choose it they would have done it by now. There is no competition. The F35 lobby network has a lock on its bloated contract. At best if Trudeau is relected the idiot will continue with his old F18's complete with incompatible old F18's from Australia continuing the tradition of always having an armed force that is a joke to the world because its leaders who claim to be trendy leftists rely always on the US's defence umbrella. The corruption in Trudeau's regime in regards to navy and air procurement let alone allowing the decay of the army is a tradition that continues in Canada since the end of WW2. There is zero excuse. A griphen fleet could have replaced our aging F18's plus leave money left over for navy purchases. We have no navy. Our airforce runs on a miracle and our soldiers have bad equipment but hey who cares because once we put them in dangerous situations and bring them back we have $10 million for Omar Kadr but pennies for soldiers with serious post trauma wounds and injuries. That's our priority. I have zero trust in any government in this regard but you know out of the lot, out of default I have to vote Sheer. It would be irresponsible to waste my vote. What a joice. A studdering closeted spoiled idiot, a man who never worked a day in his life claiming to be a champion of the working class, some idiot with the i.q. of a doughnut who leaves sensitive info lying around while he shags some motorcycle groupie chick spying on him and some guy with dimples who always looks like he farted and is embarrassed about it. Run for office Dougie. We need an insane person. The only sane people on this planet are insane people like you. Your responses to Taxme on the other thread were gems man. No one handles the crap like you. Problem is I will vote for Army Guy first. At least he will wear clothes at his inauguration. You I am not sure. Serously back to what you said, dead on but I am a Griphen supporter. We do not need an F35 and never did. We need a quick interceptor with low maintenance that can land in isolated small spaces. It can use all the old F18 weaponry, requires only 5 men maintenance crews, can land on ice, and can we get serious if the Chinese or Russians came across our air space we need interceptors until the Raptors get there. The Griphen is mobile enough to intercept and cause shit until Raptors got there. What we need are icebreakers for the North, a properly financed and trained Ranger unit to patrol the North as well, submarines and state of the art fast moving naval vessels for coastal patrols against drug smugglers, illegal fishing boats, and submarine detection. It is inexcusable we have no navy. As for the infantry God bless them but wars today are fought by elite small moving units, helicopters and fighters. I also even question tank squadrons. As for invading cities and using soldiers as police its foolhardy. Using soldiers as garrisons to control sprawling territory is antiquated. Today you control people with drugs, cell phones, junk food, currency control.1 point

I think the immediate concern is client states that may resort to attacking U.S. carriers with Chinese (export/derived) weapons. China is still trying out its superpower training wheels and cannot project conventional military power outside of its region. They don't need to sink the carrier, just disrupt operations or take out an oiler. F-35 deliveries to partner nations and new customers in Asia/Oceania will help to keep the status quo. India has chosen LockMart's F-21, which is an F-16 Block 70 with a bit of F-35 avionics and AIM-120 hard points/launcher. There is lots of activity for tactical air around the world....those who choose to be left behind will be left behind.1 point

Some of the "buy drones" crowd is just trying to divert and delay any decision and spending for a new strike fighter. So they pretend to be for the most bleeding edge unmanned platforms, knowing full well that it will not happen. Net result is as you say...Canada does nothing...their objective.1 point

US Navy has a different priority now that carrier group ranges must be increased because of new cruise/ballistic missiles designed to cripple the big American bird farms (e.g. from China). It's gotten to the point now that EA-18 Prowlers are being used for tanker duty. USAF will be doing the long range penetration with aircraft....Navy will use more missiles.1 point

When these F-35 threads started here on MLW (there have been several over the years), some members would just refer to buy new "replacement jets"..."jets"...as if it was the 1950's and it was still a new thing. And they also meant just one model, as this was all Canada could afford, if that. So pick one model of new "jet" and make it happen....simple...right ? Nope...because what it really means is pick a new "jet" that provides the most jobs and political advantages for Quebec and Ontario. Therein lies the rub....and delays...and circle jerking.1 point

Right on...the USAF is already looking to the Next-Gen fighter that replaces the F-22 and F-15 while keeping F-35 in service. US Navy is also looking to keep F-35C and replacing F-18 E/F. Canada would just be falling further behind its allies without F-35.1 point

...and that's what has the Canadian peacenik weenies so worried...the F-35 does it all and does it better....bombing the crap out of the "enemy". The best defense is a strong offense.1 point

Canada won't even bomb a terrorist out-house without human rights lawyer approvals. Hell...F-35 can even do its own BDA...bomb damage assessment.1 point

If Canada wants to be part of the battlespace network, it will have to have an aircraft capable of integrating into that network and contributing sensor data. No more waiting for the Americans to collect, process, and dole out the target packages for Canada's 10,000 human rights lawyers to review and approve. The A2AD environment moves too fast for that.1 point

Hey, it's all good. Even Canada will have to get off the pot and buy something eventually. Then the real fun begins as all the peaceniks and weenies cry their hearts out about wasting money on the war machine instead of opening more safe injection sites in Vancouver. ...and maybe Justin Trudeau will take a selfie next to a new strike fighter.1 point

You don't understand the fundamentals of growth and prosperity and how it creates jobs and wealth. Yes it is the need for new infrastructure that simulates growth and creates jobs and yes new immigrants are the engine for that. Not only new infrastructure but even more costly social and medical creates jobs. Don't hate out of ignorance but first educate yourself. Population as a whole is a burden on environment so the world population needs to be controlled. In spite of high levels of immigration past decade or two Canadians in general are much more prosperous than two decades ago. Unemployment is much lower compare to 90's and the main sectors of economy being housing and manufacturing is booming whereas we have about 10 million more immigrants in this country. Even if your figures are correct then imagine that even if half of immigrants since 90's are tax payers now and each paying an average of $12000 direct income tax then each year those immigrant paying twice more in taxes (60 billion dollars annually) than the figure YOU claim the new immigrant would cost each year. And that is just Direct income tax alone they all pay other taxes two like HST and property taxes.1 point

But all this will wash off the liberal voters back....and will not make a bit of difference in how they will remain under the liberal spell....does that make them complicit in all these acts....if it does not it sure means their morals and values are not where they should be....time for a gut check liberals, man the F**** up....1 point

Trump isn't fear-mongering anyone because he's telling the truth. Those two are what they are, he's just calling them on their actual anti-Semitism when they make anti-Semitic comments. Don't forget that the whole Dem party and the MSM all accused Trump of anti-Semitism the minute after the synagogue shooting, even though they knew it was false. They just wanted to capitalize on a tragedy, as usual. That was fear-mongering.1 point
-
It's not anti-Semitic at all for Trump to say that. It's just true. Tlaib and Omar are not just "opposed to Israel". They make anti-Semitic comments and blow anti-Semitic dog whistles all the time. They're openly chumming around with terrorist supporters. The Dems are picking the wrong side in this battle if they're not anti-Semitic.1 point

You outlined it very well. That is the exact same sh?t that drives people away from the Dems. I guess all the "new" dems skip through their history class1 point

Obama appealed to voters in the Rust-belt states, but the EC is still rigged. If a candidate wins an entire state with dozens of EC votes by only winning the state by a handful of votes, something is wrong. Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin are all hotly contested states. But in the end they get the same share of votes that California or Texas gets, 100%. For the system to be fairER, each EC vote should be representative of the district it represents and not the state it's in.1 point

These two had no plans to visit Israel but were going toPalestinian cities like Hebron, Ramallah, Bethlehem, and East, and apparently the itinerary of the congressional groups there last week wasn't good enough for Tlaib and Omar. e.g. That group met with Israeli leaders and Palestinians in the West Bank so would have been an excellent opportunity for two Muslim congresswomen to be representatives of goodwill and learning etc. They refused any government briefings and Netanyahu said their itinerary mentioned only “Palestine,” a country that doesn’t exist and a word often used to deny Israel’s right to exist. Unfortunately, the itinerary of the Tlaib/Omar Delegation leaves no room for that opportunity. In contrast to the nearly 70 freshmen members of Congress who just recently completed, or who are currently pursuing, a balanced visit to Israel that includes meetings with both Israeli and Palestinian leaders, the Tlaib/Omar Delegation has limited its exposure to tours organized by the most strident of BDS activists,” Friedman said. “This trip, pure and simple, is nothing more than an effort to fuel the BDS engine that Congresswomen Tlaib and Omar so vigorously support.”1 point

1. Or thinks the Democrats are 'left'. They are right of the Conservative party in many respects, including healthcare and trans rights. 2. Trumpism has simply separated people who immaturely use politics as an extension of their own egos. I thought Obama was wildly unqualified and was successful in his greatest challenges (ie. The 2008 Crisis) by simply communicating, and doing what people told him to do. He also failed in many ways when he tried to bring his 'brand' into actual strategy (ie. Syria) I would never argue that Obama was great because I disliked conservatives. That's the problem with politics today. The entertainment value of seeing liberals (despised by conservatives) churns with angst outweighs the cost of actually having the country run by a clown... for some.1 point

So, Scheer is a bad guy cos of what he said years ago yet here,Trudeau notes that that he is personally very opposed to abortion, but still believes nobody can tell a woman what she should do with her body so he and Scheer share identical positions, but Trudeau wants you to believe that Scheer is a monster, and he is a saint. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/justin-trudeau-upset-tory-mp-questioned-his-faith-1.10175410 points
