  1. But every bit of compelling information is dismissed with "Nothing to see here. Move along, you bunch of Islamophobes." Every country in Europe that has taken in large amounts of Islamics has seen an upsurge in gay-bashing, antisemitic attacks and a downgrading in the circumstances of women. This should concern us. The situation is so bad in France that in 2004: And this is just one country. The others report the same. Amsterdam used to be one of the most tolerant, accommodating cities, but it is not that any longer. Gay-bashing is now rampant. I see the same thing happening now as what happened in Germany. Today, it is the gay community, the Jewish community and women who suffer under Muslims. Tomorrow it may be you, because your response to this information will be "Fake news, there's nothing to see here, antisemitism has always been around, not all Muslims do this." The problem is that enough of them ARE doing it, with the encouragement and/or the tacit approval of their communities, that it is changing the face of these countries. And not in a good way. Yes, not ALL the Muslims are doing these things. That much is obvious, or the situation would be much much worse. And it will continue to get worse until we all start facing up to some unpleasant truths. I think this needs to be discussed. Reformer Muslims think it should be discussed. The only ones who don't want this discussed are apologists and politicians.

  2. At some point, audience fatigue has to set in. Even Americans are getting tired of all the nonsense....Canadians watching Americans television broadcasts near the border can no doubt see the barrage of midterm election campaign advertising...on top of this Kavanaugh three ring circus.

  4. I largely agree with you but given the nature of their jobs they really have no choice but to take victim complaints seriously. I come at this issue from a different angle as I too once had to deal with paramedics who didn't take me seriously when I was experiencing medical difficulties. They challenged the seriousness of my situation and didn't provide adequate details of my circumstances to hospital staff when I arrived at the hospital. After a nurse, who was startled that I'd been relegated to a non-priority area, realized the seriousness of my symptoms, I was quickly shifted to critical care and immediately treated. My assumption is that listening to patients and taking them seriously is a vital part of a paramedic's job. If this expectation has been weakened or abandoned, officials need to take a serious and clear look at what's going on.

  5. No, no. That's simply not possible. Don't you understand that Muslims in Canada are completely different from Muslims in Europe or Asia or the Middle East? They're all tolerant and loving and feminist and love to engage in interfaith dialogue! The moment they step off the plane they start feeling like they need to wear sandals and recycle their newspapers. And they love Jews! Really! Just ask Dialamah!

  6. Perhaps it's time to accept that what's done is done and get on with building a better city. Although the Province can alter the size of council, the City of Toronto Act gives the city full control the council interacts with its constituents. This is where there is a huge opportunity to bring the city closer to its people - and actually improve democracy. As a compelling example, most large American cities have a similar sized council - but they make use of neighbourhood/district committees. These committees are mostly volunteer-based but do have a few nominally paid positions and some office budgets. They are advisory committees and report to the Ward Councillor. Wards are large enough that several have distinct neighbourhoods (Leaside, Unionville, etc) that could benefit from more focused representation. As I said - this is an example of the opportunity that is now in front of us. Some of the money that Ford has "forced" the city to save could be re-allocated. It wasn't just about saving money - it was about more efficient government.

  7. Spanky, I have alot of respect for your views but with all due respect you are not listening... Your notion of taking a revisionary POV regarding China’s atrocity in the past is a position that is futile to hold any conversation. By that standard I can argue that the whole foundation of US of A is based on genocide of its natives and using them as slaves to build the country. Whilst this is true and it is good acknowledging that (which btw countries like UK doesn’t want to recognise its past in slavery) we need to recognise the fact that situation NOW is very different. Iran was a country with 2500 history of monarchy. Whilst some kings were a disservice some like Shah and his father Reza Shah genuinely and passionately loved Iranians of any kind and their country. The savages that are ruling Iran NOW are aliens that are loathed and hated by Iranians for the atrocities they are committing against mankind and very much loved by countries like UK and weak leaders such as Theresa May who love licking Mullah’s asses for business...

  10. With due respect the issue is how many reps does a city need. I have not seen a definitive formula for how many is too little or too much. What we all know is some things that are large are not necessarily automatically better than their smaller counterparts. When it comes to what size is the best fit I think we need to consult further with an expert and understand size is a subjective perception. That said might I respectfully suggest I now quit while I am ahead. I can feel more Freudian puns coming.

  12. With due respect you are wrong. The size of Toronto's government is the business of any Ontarian because it's municipal government requires funding from the province of Ontario which gets its money from the taxes it collects from all Ontarians and includes money refocused on Toronto that might otherwise be spent in other cities in Ontario. What goes on in Toronto has an impact on all of Ontario. For that matter it impacts on the size of governments at all levels in Canada. Your argument that it should only matter and be spoken of by Toronotonians is lame avoidance at dealing with an opinion you don't like.

  14. Goddess, you need to chill with the brush strokes and stereotypes. There are so many different types of Muslims. You only show your ignorance by continuously commenting on how Muslims are like this or like that. It's like someone commenting that all Christians have the same exact thoughts and beliefs. Even if you try to validate your generalized comments with "some", you are still showing your ignorance. It shows that you have no clue about the diversity of people and are only looking at the situation from a small, ignorant lens.

  15. Spanky, This whole comparison thing becomes irrelevant when you compare apples with oranges.... China despite what you say is growing rapidly economically and from the perspective of their influence in the world. The dire situation in Iran is untenable.... Let’s deal with realities NOW rather than become a revisionist. These fucktard mullahs in Iran have destroyed everything Iran stood for... They have no hesitation to literallly kill half the population for their own survival and keep them hostage. The Iranians were betrayed by this imported revolution 40 years ago. This does not mean that Iranians have to put up with this just because the neighbouring countries are very comfortable with islamic doctrine. This whole argument that just because other countries in the region are not doing very well therefore Iran should also be held to the same stardard is completely flawed IMO.

  16. The rush to process is what this is about - and from both sides. There is not one person with an IQ over 70 who doesn't know that this is about the midterms. Yes, there is a time limit. The republicans have to get this through and the Dems are trying to stall. Please don't pretend that the Repubs are afraid of anything being "found out", or that the Dems are fighting for truth and justice - it's so naive. The right knows this is a just a hit job and the dems don't care about the accusers - plain and simple. Midterms! Midterms! Midterms!

  19. Actually, the Liberals effectively reversed the Harris tax cuts soon after taking power by implementing the health tax, which I believe was the biggest single income tax increase on ordinary Ontario workers in the province's post-WW2 history. And they still couldn't balance the books. They just kept on finding new ways to give other people's money away.

  22. The news as we know it no longer exists. I cannot stand watching it. I expect many feel the same way. All we have today are platforms to catapult propaganda. Yet we live in the age of information, another blessed gift of technological progress. The lesson, ironically, seems that the more information we have, the less we actually know.

  23. In fact, 'they don't really mean it' is basically the way the Left feels about Islam. You can quote all the hateful stuff that is in the Koran and which Muslim nations around the world dully follow, but since most on the Left are secularists who don't take religion seriously (except that they disdain Christian fundamentalists) they just dismiss it with "Well, they don't really believe that." Even where you're dealing with someone wearing a burka, a terribly uncomfortable garment that shuts you away from the world, from the sun and breeze, even where they wear that every day, the Islam apologists will insist they donl't really believe the fundamental tenets of their own religion. And by the way, look here, see what nasty things the Old Testament says! The same people who loath Christians who don't support gay marriage will gleefully embrace devout Muslims whose religion says gays should be executed, because "oh, they don't really believe that". It's like most people on the left cannot imagine anyone being devout enough to accept such religious teachings, except for maybe a few fanatics. This part - could be written directly about some of the people in this conversation. Confronted with the fact that it's indeed such a belief - albeit of a particularly dark and twisted variety - that impels Islamists, their immediate impulse is to be dismissive: No, that can't be it. It must be something else. It must be something we can relate to - poverty, oppression, colonialism.

  24. It erodes workers’ rights by putting pressure on them not to join a union. Without unions our labor conditions and wages would be far worse. Be careful what you wish for.

  25. WHAT? "Right to work" legislation has nothing to do with the UN's Declaration. It's a specific form of legislation in some U.S. states that prevents workers from having to join a union if the majority of workers vote to have a union. It's primarily about wage and benefit suppression in the name of an idea that doing so will attract more companies to do business. It has had some success for businesses looking to cut labour costs and workers willing to work for lower wages. I think you need to delete this thread.

  28. If they can't guilt certain republicans to vote against Kavanaugh, then they can all claim victim status and use it to try to turn women voters against the republicans for the mid-terms. I'd say Ford is a patsy, but as every day progresses, I think she has a political agenda she's trying to fulfill too. Whatever the details, it's all a load of manipulation.

  29. It's a political hit job that only has legs because of current #MeToo trendiness and Trump haters. Democrats are desperate...they have no power. To put this in perspective, there was a re-opened Senate hearing for Anita Hill when Justice Clarence Thomas was accused of sexual harrassment, but it only delayed the inevitable. If a credible finding of assault by Judge Kavanaugh cannot be substantiated, he will join the Supreme Court bench.
