Why is Canada such a mess in so many ways?
ExFlyer replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Holy Oh Phuck...you are far and away whacked out. Speech from the Throne yesterday and what does PP do?? Oh , he regurgitates his election platform...the one that caused his party to lose the election and for him to personally lose his seat. If this is how the conservatives are go9ig to act in the future, there should be no surprise Canada will not get better. An opposition that does nothing to help Canada improve will doom Canada to remain a second class country. - Today

So that went well... GG insults the King.
SpankyMcFarland replied to CdnFox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Separate people should serve as heads of state and government. That’s the best arrangement and it’s the one followed in most European democracies. It forms yet another bulwark against authoritarianism. Unfortunately, we have made it virtually impossible to change our current arrangement short of war but I think there is one thing we might be able to do without a protracted legal crisis - allow parliament to take a series of votes, preferable secret, on candidates for the GG and take the result as non-binding advice to the PM. This would strengthen the independence of the office and in time make them a de facto head of state. The PM should not be directly involved in choosing the GG. This isn’t in our top twenty problems as a state but I suspect it’s going to become a bigger issue. Trump has set out to cause crises abroad and is succeeding. We never want to see some unfortunate monarch having to say one thing in Canada and quite another in Britain. -
as if there are any functioning checks on the Canadian government ? all Donald Trump is doing is acting like a Canadian Prime Minister in America

One day they'll allow humans to do absolutely nothing and live like royalty. Unless the sheer gall and moral panic is too much even for an AI. -
Why is Canada such a mess in so many ways?

1. Left-leaning parties have been "trying" for the last 10 years in this country. What did the Liberals accomplish? What did the Liberal-NDP alliance accomplish? Large deficit spending on social programs and taxes on fossil fuels causes inflation (not saying those are the only reasons for recent inflation). The most left-leaning cities in the country are unaffordable dystopian sh!holes filled with drugs, theft, and gang violence. Mass immigration has contributed to inflation, healthcare overcrowding, and crime. 2. Canada has among the lowest birthrates in the world and a low population density. Countries like India, China etc are far more to blame. Maybe even the US compared to Canada. 3. What do you want the Liberals to do differently? What are your proposed solutions? It's very easy to say "let's reduce income inequality", but the devil is in the details. What do you propose specifically? The rich are already taxed at least 50%+ in this country. We've raised minimum wages and started new dental/pharma/daycare programs (that aren't being costed and paid for and just added to the debt). The problems of inequality are far more troublesome in the US. In Canada our biggest economic problems are housing and rent affordability and the resulting decrease in standard of living because of the % of people's paychecks going to mortgages/rents. Leftwing politicians have made these issues worse. The boomers don't want their house prices to go down. Yet we need a lot of immigration because of plummeting birthrates, which are the direct result of decades of progressives pushing for things like birth control use, abortion, women in the workplace etc. to a radical degree. I'm not claiming the CPC or GOP have ideal solutions either. I think all the main parties in Canada and the US are filled with ideological nutjobs. Centrist politicians with reasonable solutions are an endangered species. 4. Stop projecting things onto me. -
Nuclear Power Makes A Come Back
CdnFox replied to gatomontes99's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
It's practically renewable (for canadians anyway). And it's safer than any other permanent reliable source of power. The current one being built is the first of it's kind and took less than a decade from design to authorization to proceed. And any mega power project costs billions. Go look up the site c dam Its genius. There is no 'renewable' energy source the way you mean it that is reliable. The sun sets. Wind stops. we've seen the results. Thee is no effective storage of electricity right now. So nuclear power provides a perfect emissions free alternative that runs 24 7 every day of the year, is safer than any other reliable energy source, and can be placed anywhere. It would make the whole 'carbon' problem go away for good. Which is why you hate it. You don't care about climate change, you care about having something to be angry about. -

There's nothing defensive about stating a simple fact. You said something that was untrue, I have said the truth in order to correct you It's kind of funny that you find the act of being honest to be associated with being defensive? -
But it's not his personal use. It's for the use of the current president of the united states. No matter how you like to sing and dance that is the simple truth. It's no different than the current air force one, it's not there for his personal use either. You twist and turn and wine and cry but at the end of the day you cannot make this his personal property. If he accepts it he will be accepting it to use as president to the united states unless he just accepts it and allows it to sit on a Tarmac somewhere as a gift. Again your hatred and bigotry blind you. Everything I've said is 100% the truth

CdnFox replied to CdnFox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Oh I don't think anybody's under any illusions as to the functional head of state, and it's not the king. Harper said essentially that to Queen Elizabeth back in the day. The push came to shove and it was a question of one or the other Canadians would defend Canadians interest and Britain would defend Britain's interest. We all know that The king is the head of state isn't a practical position, but it is symbolic and it does tie us to a certain history. And there are times when that is a valuable thing to remember. This would appear to be one of them -
Why is Canada such a mess in so many ways?
CdnFox replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I heard That argument when computers were coming out. Computers, AI, so on and so forth allow humans to do more with less effort. They do not know will they ever replace humans. Or at least nothing will that we are currently have on the table or on the drawing board. There's no doubt that some jobs will no longer be relevant but new jobs will be created, just this happened with computers And ai isn't real intelligence, it's just repeating what it's been exposed to thousands of times. So of COURSE it's left wing -

Your response to the OP's question "Why is Canada such a mess?" was (your exact quote) "Because conservatives have done nothing to help make it better". The CPC hasn't had any legislative power for 10 years. The Liberals, and to a smaller extent the NDP, are largely to blame here when it comes to federal parties. And the voters who keep voting them back into power. -

And if there's an army of lobbyists forever beavering away to expand ways to avoid taxes then good on everyone? Okay.
