It's hard to say. We don't get to see the books. We don't get investigations. Money disappears, and that's that. Hundreds of billions went out the door during covid. Where did it all go? Who knows? Where is all our money going now, and what do we get for it? Who knows?

This guy is a little rough but he has a point.

If I've said it once I've said it everytime I post here...

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

Why on Earth would you build a nuclear reactor without shielding?

Why would you vote for the party that banned shielding?

I'm old, but not that old. If I'd built the system, it would be functioning much better.

Why, how would it function better - with what things in place to make it function better?

What business (??) operation's workers go on strike when  they know it's losing billions ..............oh, forgot ...... it's tax payer money.

That link is just Right wing drivel from a random internet person.  Money is not spent “without any oversight”

A large and independent auditor general's office, for one, which would be elected by secret parliamentary vote and responsible only to parliament, and which would have total power to demand all information about where money is spent. Unlike the current version, whose budget is controlled by the government, and whose requests for information can be ignored. They would audit every department, agency, and crown corporation annually for where money is being spent and whether the programs or services paid for were as described and value for money.

In fact, if I designed the government, there would be no political parties. MPs would be responsible only to their constituents. They could elect people to specific cabinet positions, and the cabinet could then elect the prime minister from among them.

I'm all for that...Citizens Assemblies...political parties should be regarded no differently than the Kiwanis club.

I've worked in Gov't and private industry. Both have efficient and inefficient operations.

How much corruption and waste exists in Canadian government?

A lot.

Just ask the bureaucracy, the Israelis, Zelinsky. Ask all the Indians and Asians here on "student visas". Ask Mohammed who has his family nicely taken care of in your neighborhood. Ask the ostriches being slaughtered in BC. The farmers, the oil and gas folks, the police.

Yes, our government is corrupt. But hey...

Elbows Up...

Its so lonely in m'saddle since m'horse died.

Thanks for the unsight, random internet liar.

That sounds like a fairly useless measure. Have you got any better suggestions?

Hmmm. 🤔

AI Overview.

Five-year total: Over the five years leading up to 2024, the estimated total federal financial support to the oil and gas sector was about $74.6 billion.

Lack of transparency: Some reports highlight a lack of transparency around the exact amount and use of these subsidies, making a precise total difficult to determine.

A lack of transparency? Who woulda thunk that?

LMAO!

Why? There's no business plan, no private investors, millions of people don't want it and it won't be finished until 5 - 10 years after peak demand for oil.  It's hilarious listening to Smith coming at this like it's Petro-Can .02.

Just build it out of spite anyway - for shits and giggles stickin' it to libbies? That would be your style alright.

LMAO!

No. My style would be to do what's necessary to restore prosperity to Canadians. To reduce inflation, reduce the deficit, and provide jobs.

You know...take care of Canadians...not your green-ass lies and fear-porn.

Why not? Would that not be a good thing, heh, Mr. Misery. Even you would not be able to ignore the benefits.

We'd be a whole lot farther ahead putting all the effort it'll take to get a pipeline built into alternatives. In Alberta's case it should be into SMRs. These should be used to power a virtually in-situ refinery industry to produce the fuel Canada and North America will still need while demand winds down. Which I doubt will ever go away entirely.
