"urging greater honesty in self-identification,"

Or maybe doing your public service due diligence and demanding more proof? This "self identifications" as indigenous is a problem in all sectors of Canadian society.

"Other sectors like academia and the arts have faced reckonings and controversies, but race-shifting, as the phenomenon is sometimes known, in the bureaucracy has largely escaped scrutiny.

"Wilson is from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg, an Algonquin community in Quebec, and has served in numerous executive posts in government including as the deputy minister champion for Indigenous federal employees."  A minister will not do anything about it.

Yes, Canada land did an entire series on these pretendians.

It just pisses me off that there is so much of this.

We are too afraid to call these people out. We are such a non offensive society anyone can claim anything.

You missed the word "theft" in the title, and it doesn't make sense without it.

"Indigenous identity theft."

If CNN gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of typewriters, leftists would believe everything they typed.

If you missed something on the Cultist Narrative Network, don't worry, the dolt horde here will make sure everyone hears it.

A guy I know calls those pretendians "Poacahontas" and stuff like that. At least he's not afraid to call those people out, hey?

sounds like this could be a real problem depending on what someone receives for claiming to be Native. At my job, it means nothing as long as you live off the reservation.

Check this out:

"The most sinister thing" about the current system is not just that people with dubious claims can benefit professionally, he said, but that they can land positions of high authority and influence, just by checking a box.

Apparently the problem isn't that "people can land positions of high authority and influence just by checking a box".

It's that "people can land positions of high authority and influence just by checking a box... that only indigenous people are allowed to check to land those positions of high authority and influence." 🤣

Buffy Sainte-Marie !

what about Sacheen Littlefeather ?

she was so famous when I was a boy,

for declining to accept the Oscar on Marlon Brando's behalf for The Godfather

turns out she was a Mexican named Maria Cruz

and that was 1973, so Pretendians are not actually a recent phenomena

That is worth fighting against. If its a tribal council then giving them first dibs.. no big deal. for something at the state/provincial level.. terrible way to go about appointing folks.

I dare say there is no politician or person of authority that questions the claim unless it hits the media.

I would submit that it dates back to Germany in the 18th century

Germans have been dressing up as and pretending to be American Indians for 300 years

it was called Indianenthusiasm

the National Socialists even adopted it

most don't know that the Nazis were obsessed with the "Noble Warrior Savage" mythology Native Americans

the Nazis actually declared the American Indians to be a "Master Race" therein

I'm experiencing a change in my social group where someone is being whispered as a pretendian.  Might not be significant at all though.

what's ironic is that the Native Americans not only embraced this paradigm but demanded it once

since they used to capture/kidnap Europeans to make them slaves

then over time they would force the Europeans to convert to tribal culture

some Europeans actually being adopted into the tribe if/when they complied

in fact, in the early days, the Native Americans recognized it as being a numbers game

the more Europeans whom they could convert to being Indians, the better

they were warfighters seeking any advantage against their adversaries

the First Nations were empires unto themselves, like the Romans, seeking to conquer

That's awesome.

It's possible that they did it just to cause a bit of division over here, but still an interesting fact.

no, the Nazis were actually enthralled by the Native Americans

particularly the most fearsome nations, such as the Lakota Sioux

what the Nazis embraced was the ruthless warrior ethos, the mercilessness, and the desire to conquer

it's like the Lakota Sioux, that was actually an empire,  which ruled over all the other plains Indians with an iron fist

I For one fully support these people's  TransRacial rights!  It must be terrible to be a first nations trapped in a white body! Why should they be stuck with the race they were assigned at birth?

The gov't should be paying for race-affirming surgery.

(the above is sacrasm for those who didn't get that.  Mainly herbie and robosmith )

Well...if race doesn't matter as many people like to say, then you would have to be logically consistent and grant that it is irrelevant whether someone actually has any native ancestry.

If so, it's akin to a rash.

If we toned done the volume on PC the Chuds and Foreign Agents would just turn it up on: climate change, trade, support for Ukraine.  An open forum that is essential to democracy also depends on people to focus on important things.  I think unisex washrooms aren't a bad idea but given our geopolitical threats I think that issue belongs on page ten of any daily paper that still exists...
