‘We’ve had enough’: Protests over carbon price hike halt traffic across Canada (NL Premier calls for emergency meeting

I gased up my car yesterday. The carbon tax raised the price from $1.549 to $1.589 per litre. To think, a few months ago, it was only $1.769. Oh, the humanity. How will we ever survive?

You cleverly only mention the increase, not the total carbon tax.  By 2030, if it continues as planned, it will be 24% of the cost of fuel.

Also, you never mentioned the fact carbon tax affects the cost of everything else, not just gas.

Good points. When you put yourself in the shoes of our future generations, it is a tiny sacrifice.

You will have sacrificed that generation's future.

THat's what you don't get. You're arrogance at spending your own money is bad enough but you're stealilng theirs without asking as well

And it didn't fix climate change. They will have the same climate disaster to deal with - they'll just be far poorer and have a lower quality of life

I'm pretty sure that's what Poilievre believes too. Will you support whatever scam he ends up using to scam people into believing he takes climate change seriously?

Well this is all very interesting but...

Polievre will be the next PM.

The gas tax will be axed.

The fossil fuel industry will be allowed to recover.

The economy will begin to bounce back.

Why? Because there is no "climate crisis". It's all just chickenshit designed to scare the public into acceptance of societal destruction.

Agree, Trudeau is lost.

I am not so sure it will be axed (in it's entirety). There is a lot of bureaucracy involved and cons love bureaucracy. Plus lots of folks like the rebates (whether deserved/needed or not)

I am not so sure the fossil fuel industry is failing. Pipelines and exports ect are keeping the industry very much alive.

The economy is  "bouncing" back as we speak. I agree it has a long way to go but it is coming back, albeit slowly.

And the climate change (crisis) is an ongoing debate between 3 groups. The believers, the non-believers and the do not cares :)

You are misinformed. The greenhouse effect is accepted by every credible scientist in the world. Unless we made substantial changes now, within three centuries, your decendents will be feeling the impact of a climate catastrophe. We know what is coming. It only demands a minor sacrifice on our part to change that prognosis.

What do you suggest we do to ensure future generations have sufficient petroleum and coal reserves for the thousands of products, especially lubrication, to survive? We don't need coal and oil to generate energy. We have uranium and thorium (and God willing, fusion some day) to provide the heat, but it is useless if you can't lubricate the turbines. Western Canada is the Saudi Arabia of uranium.

Meanwhile...

Fossil fuel subsidies cost Canadians a lot more money than the carbon tax

https://theconversation.com/fossil-fuel-subsidies-cost-canadians-a-lot-more-money-than-the-carbon-tax-226482

This is why it's also hard to give a shit about our GDP issues or debt concerns. If it wasn't for grandkids there' be no reason whatsoever.

"Subsidies" are always a debated topic. They are great if you are on the side of the jobs they maintain, retain or develop and not on side if it goes against your values or ideals.

Almost 12% of Canada's GDP relies on the energy sector. Maybe in the future wind and solar and nuclear and hydro will reduce this but , certainly not in the near future.

I would like to see how the anti fossil fuel people will do if they were actually cut off from using of fossil fuel and anything that fossil fuel touches in our lives.....using your horse to visit grandma in the next town or province :)

People took the train. Rebuild and electrify the rail system with nuclear power generated electricity and you can go anywhere on the train. On a dedicated high speed line, you could probably travel from Montreal to Calgary in less than 10 hours.

What about Grandma 10 miles away not on a rail track or in the prairies between communities? What about Northern Ontario...or Quebec ...or NWT?

What about much of Canada not in major cities.

Why waste Canadian taxpayer money and resources on all those things when we have massive amounts of natural gas and oil reserves in Canada?  Also did you know there are massive reserves of other gas under Canada's north that we haven't significantly even tapped yet.  Canada could be much more prosperous if we drop this phony war on the climate and so-called pollution of carbon dioxide.  CO2 is not pollution as Trudeau claims every day.  It is pure brainwashing and propaganda to support his globalist agenda.

Man, the arrogance of that statement. there's lots of places even in the lower mainland that trains don't go to. Never mind the whole country. And 'electrify' enough track to cover hundreds of thousand of km? You've seen a map before right?  You have some idea how big canada is?

I seem to make you cry quite  a bit - as to why, Dude you can't possibly expect me to explain all the stupid things you do. I mean - why would you think posting ass porn as your argument was a good idea? why do you pretend to post AI comments and then post your own comments around it when the AI is telling you you're being an !diot? Why do you post your weird sexual fantasies about how your ass porn is me?

That's not to mention the plethora of generally stupid comments or statements you make that show an incredible lack of knowledge and basic reasoning.

I don't know - dropped as a child? Mom used too many drugs while pregnant? Father was actually a smooth talking baboon that got your mom drunk one night?  The answer to why you do stupid things may never be known.
