Well there you go.

For all those lefties out there who try to claim "Nobody gets arrested" for things like gender language and such - here's two people having  a private conversation who got arrested because someone was offended by what they said. Someone they weren't even talking to and who gets to remain anonymous.

it's very sad that the left has brought us to this.

It’s a lot worse than most people dare to think.  There’s a top-down push to change language, against what is accurate and biological in order to placate a small group of very vocal and determined activists.  When biological descriptors like male and female and associated pronouns are stripped away from people, people are dehumanized. Erasing girls and boys is twisted.  It doesn’t align with basic science and most faiths. It’s extremely confusing for kids

It’s not about not accepting trans people.  Most people would use a trans person’s preferred pronouns, even people who don’t think sex change is possible.  The issue is compelled language and telling children that gender is changeable like a pair of shoes.  Stay out of the indoctrination business   Stay out of censorship and Orwellian language control.

If kids come forward expressing dysphoria and wanting to be heard, have a nickname, dress differently, and experiment with social transition, that’s not a big deal unless a child wants a legal name change, in which case parents must be involved and one could say a trans identity is sought. Those individuals are protected by human rights, but those rights must be balanced with women’s and men’s rights, religious rights, etc.

Listening non-judgementally is really what we should be doing rather than simply affirming.  Kids have time.  When they’re older they can make medical decisions for themselves.  Obviously parents are involved in kids’ medical decisions. Not many kids would seek a legal name and pronoun change.  Much of it is low stakes short term experimentation.

I remember while on a bus overhearing a woman talking about a guy fingering her, and pulling out his finger (from her butt) and sniffing it. Then she giggled to the person she was talking to, totally unphased by the dirty look she was getting from a few passengers.

This had me judge her, but she's not yelling, harassing people. She's just showing the whole bus how nasty she is, considering how happy she was in volunteering this loud enough for an entire bus to hear.

I see it no different than gender ideology talk on a bus. Highly inappropriate, but I just don't see how this would be seen as illegal, because your opinion isn't politically correct. Where do we draw the line if this is the case?

Is someone getting offended, vs you being offensive a crime?

Like, if I state am pro choice and had a debate earlier, and someone is pro life, and feels threatened, there is literally nothing that I said that is illegal. I would fight it until my last breath.

Want comfort, get a car like I did.

Controversial subject matter to me, would be a slippery slope in trying to get someone in actual legal trouble.

To me, you would need to set the standard as to what is offensive. PG13? R only? Or keep it G?

I made this thread a few weeks ago; https://repolitics.com/forums/topic/46525-a-60-day-prison-sentence-for-calling-an-activist-a-fat-lesbian-in-switzerland/

In Switzerland, an activist was given a 60 day prison sentence for calling another activist a fat lesbian.

I made the conclusion that a similar case were to happen in Canada in the future, because we've got power hungry freaks here as well.

There are lots of censorship activists in the Western World at large who want to restrict freedom of the press, freedom of expression. They really want 'experts' (those who parrot their views) to be the only ones able to speak.

I'd like to know more about what the two fellas in Calgary said while in public transit, and if they were agressive toward someone in particular, or if that's just because they had the wrong opinion according to the Left. If that's the latter, it's extremely concerning, but I wouldn't be suprised.

Precedents made during COVID are meant to last.

Look at the editorializing and censorship that’s become typical in Canada now.  The writer of this supposed news article says that drag queen story hour promotes diversity.  This isn’t supposed to be an opinion piece, but it very clearly is. CityNews is totally unprofessional and biased.  The facts of what happened are unbelievable in a supposedly free country   The councillor said nothing wrong. The Integrity Commissioner doesn’t like the councillor’s views and that she is “populist”.  Since when is it a crime to be populist or to be worried about sexual predators among children? This Integrity Commissioner is irresponsible.  I hope this councillor appeals.

This article is a farce. They do not even mention what was said by her. It just accuses the attitude of the councillor, without mentionning any detail. It is pure defamation, and the person who wrote this article should pay a hefty amount to the councillor.

Coming back to the councillor, what did she do, actually?

Another journalist had to do the work, I quote;

Quote

According to council minutes dated Oct. 23, Robinson attended the school board meeting and, using a bullhorn microphone, addressed a “large and occasionally unruly” crowd with motions she intended to bring to council the following week. These motions included “restricting and removing the City’s support for drag queen story time, flying of Pride and Trans [sic] flags at City premises, and any related LGBTQ+ related events and activities, and removing the universal washrooms and change rooms from City facilities, specifically the Chestnut Hills Recreation Centre.”

In its report, the integrity commissioner found that in making the remarks Robinson “promoted attitudes which are homophobic and transphobic.” It also found that the motions she attempted to bring forward “would not withstand scrutiny under Ontario’s Human Rights Code.”

Whether it is the targeted removal of the flag raising opportunity from the LGBTQ2S+ community, the targeted prohibition of pride parades, banning drag queens fromengaging in story-reading to children at the library, or implying that gender-neutralchangerooms are in any way putting children at risk, we find the councillor’sconduct in promoting the motions on the steps of the DDSB office to constitute homophobic and transphobic behaviour,” the report notes.

Advocating for removal of pride flags?

HOMOPHOBE, TRANSPHOBE, WE NEED TO STEAL YOUR MONEY TO MAKE YOU UNDERSTAND HOW TO ACT.

This is preposterous, and when this kind of power abuse will be done by Conservatives in the future, which will arrive soon enough, the Left will play the victims, as they will suffer the consequences of the power abuse they made a precedent.

I don’t know how we fix this either, because our courts have become politicized and activist.  I’m realizing that the Americans figured this out long ago and decided that judges might as well be elected.  At least then you can pick your bias to vote for.

We go the other way.  We elect leaders who are willing to 'cheat' in the other direction. That was basically the appeal of trump in the states.

Historically conservatives have played by the rules and elected leaders who would play by the rules.  Sadly that doesn't work when the other side doesn't play by the rules.

Scary but entirely predictable. One has to a) think and b) work for freedoms to exist, be established and maintained. Freedoms do not appear out of pipe dreaming and thin smoke. Freedoms do not appear out of nowhere because something was written in a dusty book or someone dressed into a fancy robe. Romans knew that and tested on their own backs and a$$es, that was 2000 years back. And dinosaurs too, millions. No, there will be no cute and cuddly surprises here!

I don’t know how the curtailment of free speech gets reversed when our governments, journalists, and organization leaders compete to prove how little tolerance they have for any questioning.  The recently added human rights are being cited as the reason to turn off microphones and suspend or cancel people.  It smacks of old communist Eastern Europe.  Most people hate what’s happening but are scared to say anything.  We need to reassert basic freedoms like free speech, freedom of religion, women’s rights, and so on.  No doubt everyone needs to feel safe and secure.  What can’t happen is that people aren’t allowed to question policies.

It won't.  The war will be fought based on popularity of the opinion not principles.

It's not easy - the problem is that anythig a gov't can do can be undone by the next gov't. Harper put in place a BUNCH of stuff to make gov't more transparent and less bias and trudeau pulled it all in his first year.

The only real way is to

a) - put in positions of power your own sympathetic people, just as the libs do. Move anyone who is left of trump into the 'arctic snowflake management" portfolio and civil beurocracy. By putting right wing thinkers into positons of hiring you control that better, just as the libs do

and

b) - Control the media.  Cancel the cbc, find ways to funnel cash into conservative friendly news sources to build them up, fund the heck out of smaller indy media that is pro-conservative.

In short - cheat.  Just as the liberals do.  It worked for them, it will work against them just as well.

And finally - place 'land mines' for the next liberal gov't. You know after 2 full terms you're likely to be punted so push all contract negotiations that are difficult, all financial challenges, all other problems into the first few years of their likely time in power and then blame them for everything that goes wrong

Again - works for the libs.

These are the ways the libs screw us - we just have to use the same tools they do.  I know - it sucks but if liberal voters don't care and let their party get away wiht it what else is there to do?

Canadians voted for a Marxist dictator in Ottawa and now they got one.

We now have the new Online Censorship Acts of Bills C-11 and C-18 which will restrict people's right to their opinions and points of view. We have had many Canadians have their bank and credit card accounts frozen in Canada. We will soon be having restrictions on what Podcasts Canadians will be allowed to listen too.

If anyone here is too stunned enough to believe that Canada is not heading towards communist tyranny in Canada then they have to be totally and bloody well stupid. The arrest and charging of Tamara Liche is a crime against freedom of speech and assembly in Canada. We are starting to live in a KGB like police state where the police have become a political tool for the Marxist dictator in Ottawa that is running this sad and pathetic country called Canada today. ?

It's not just the west. If you comment about the actual events of Mohammed's life in the ME, you can lose your head.

She's right if she's talking about diversity of decency, but not race or sexuality.
