Even Hamas estimated that roughly 70% of the dead were members of Hamas, because that's the percentage of dead that they had to give hero pensions out for. That's their own estimate of the number of deaths, and their own stated number of hero pensions given to active members.

Women don't get beaten or raped or jailed for not wearing hijabs here. Gays don't get thrown off of buildings and then stoned to death. Girls can go to school and get jobs. Jews and muslims can practice their religion here without fear, just like everyone else. 

1. Women here -> hijab or no hijab -> no beatings or rapes, ever
2. Women in muslim countries -> hijab or no hijab -> beatings or rapes are a certainty if women don't wear a hijab

And FWIW, regarding your point which was off-topic, the reason that we have science here that's advanced well beyond that of the shithole countries is we have a society that promotes science and commerce, not one that inflicts ideology at the cost of all else.

Our civilization has grown "into what it is today". Meaning it has grown in terms of "being upwardly mobile, and positive, for all citizens", not outwardly growing.

I don't think of us as overlords there at all.

IMO, our civilization ends at the coastline. 

European civilization is like ours, even "gave rise to ours", but Japan has their own civilization. As does China. The Koreas. S Africa. Etc.

The comparison isn't really apt. The Muslim 'golden age' was around the same time as the European Dark Ages (not coincidentally).

Around the 13th century, Islam began to decline in comparison with the rest of the world because of the growing influence of Islamic scholars who wanted people to adhere to a stricter doctrine which basically said all you need to know is Islam. All the information that is important is in the Quran and the Hadiths. The Muslim world began to stagnate and never grew out of that stagnation. All its brightest young men studied Islam and nothing else. And that is mostly still true today. 

Meanwhile, the reformation began in the 14th century, which ushered in a lot of innovation, scientific inquiry, and technological development and advancement that Islam had rejected.

Today, even in the Gulf Coast countries, which have been fabulously wealthy for sixty years, Western architects and engineers design major projects and buildings, and Western oilmen manage their oil infrastructure. The fact that countries like Saudi Arabia still have to send young people abroad to become doctors because they're not capable of training them should tell you all you need to know.

I think it's selective thinking to leave out exactly how we got to our place in history as being upwardly mobile, and having our values dominate the world. Ie. Military technology, just as when the Muslims defeated Europe in the middle ages, or when Rome dominated the world.

But it's a thread drift anyway....
