Some did their job. Balloon bomb wreckage was a constant threat in BC woods up until just recently. Even then....find one now? You touch it.

News round about January 1942 was that the garrison of Hong Kong had been captured, sent on a death march and had yet to be heard from. That woke a few folks up alright.

Who's denying they existed? A Japanese sub took a couple of shots at the Estevan Point lighthouse, Astoria Oregon and some place in California.  U boats were sinking hundreds of ships in the St. Laurence and within sight the US eastern seaboard

The threat was plenty real. Or do you not think the IJN and IJA were a match for the Canadian Army in 1942? They clearly beat us ONCE.

Not just Pearl Harbor...but a string of victories all over the Pacific/Indian oceans. They just kept coming right up until Coral Sea/Midway.

The Coral Sea is next to Australia. Midway is the other side of Hawaii. The Japanese strategy was to create a barrier by occupying islands that could be used as bases to attack Japan, not to invade North America. They  attacked Midway to draw out the US fleet so they could destroy the remains of it. Backfired.

Meanwhile, back in the USA, the US didn't have an east coast blackout and their idiot anglophobe Admiral King wouldn't form convoys, so German U boat commanders were picking off merchant ships silhouetted in the lights from the shore.

PM Lee Hsien Loong called himself "chinaman," so don't call anyone Chinese if you don't their background, for a lot of people, it is an insult. Anyway, I can tell the difference.

C'mon, that incident had little to do with Native Hawaiian residents; it was all about the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service pilot who was receiving the assistance of the three regular Japanese-Americans on the island in overcoming his captors, finding weapons, and taking several hostages.

You have the clear vision of being able to study the events after the fact and decide that Japan wasn't going to invade the West Coast of North America. Everybody was pretty convinced they COULD at the time (1942). As I've mentioned elsewhere on this forum, the darkest days of WW2 for the Allies came after the Battle of Java Sea when ALL hope seemed lost. There was literally little to stop the Japs. But then miracles involving aircraft carriers happened and Japan lost much of its ability to wage proper carrier warfare for the rest of the war. Training pilots took time...who knew?

Most non Canadians can’t tell a Canadian from an American. Do you honestly think most Canadians could tell a Singaporean Chinese from one from China?
