Thread Drift, but the Unemployment rate was already around 5% when Trump took office. Now it's north of 10%. Soooooooooo.

lol @ your forlorn here in mentioning the 10% ... Do you hate the USA that much, like Dems do? You now blame the GOVT for shutting the country down, to save the people? whoa.

It's a good for the goose scenario.

If the Caveat of the relative strength of the economy in Early 2017 is irrelevant then so will the fact that a Global pandemic will have decimated the Stock market and ballooned Unemployment in late 2020.

He'll have to own it either way.

No but he needs many states that gladly shut their economy down to halt the spread of this virus.

Trump did not shut them down, but he wants to start them back up.   They can complain to their governors.

I have already stated several times that Trump should win or lose based on the things he has done....good and bad.

It's the fight he wants to have. And one helluva bet.

Because if any state that opens their economy because of his direction and cases or deaths spike in that state, he'll have to own it.

No Premiere in Ontario is even remotely willing to have that fight right now.

Trump has no other cards to play during a pandemic...except for hoping that Sleepy Joe proves to be totally senile.

Trump is betting that the growing pain and dissatisfaction over the lockdown and economic destruction is greater than the pain of more "flu deaths".

New York screwed up badly...Democrats !

It's an honest assessment of Trump's strategy.

These are calculated political decisions, not altruistic ones.

I bet @Boges will also just, love, how when CNN did hurry and cut away from the briefing they quickly went back to S.King in the CNN studios ---then King lied and called the video re-election propaganda ... ROFL ... like the article said, can you imagine the CNN producers in that moment? SCREAMING AT THE tv monitors and sprawling out on the production floor?? lol

Check out the .jpg of CNN's meltdown I will post (below) here shortly

"Hark, sycophant horde, bow down before your TVs for the official New Truths as we create them! The hundreds of videos of us making childish insults, and the transcripts on our website which verify the content of the videos, are not important compared to the bold new truths! ALL THE EVIDENCE YOU NEED IS YOUR OPINION OF TRUMP. SPREAD THE GLORIOUS NEW TRUTHS! YOU ARE A SOCIAL JUSTICE WARRIOR LIKE GRETA!"

MLW Lefties: "OH HELL YEAH! This bold new truth is way better than Russian collusion, Fordgate, Ukrainegate, drapegate, and Sandmangate!"

I don't think there's an objective definition of Propaganda. It was definitely a campaign style video done as a service to the US people, definitely not the place for such a thing.

When Trump tries talking to the media about their revisionist history they try to yell over him and just make brand new accusations. He put the vido out there for them so that there was no room for debate or denial. If they weren't caught lying then there would have been no video of them lying for Trump to post

Quote

What would you think if JT took time out of his briefings to play a video saying how great he's been handling COVID-19?

Do you think that Justin Trudeau can make a video of CBC [who got $695M from him after they ran propaganda for him from 2012-2015] lying about his handling of covid just to make him look bad boges? What about the other "select media outlets" that he gave $600M? Does he have a video to run about their slander and deceit? FFS, I don't even know where you get some of your ideas from.

Trump needs to 1) let Biden talk more, so that voters don't need to guess how stupid Joe is, but 2) not let Biden speak too much, because we don't want the Dems to get an excuse to remove him, and replace him with someone who is more competent.

Exactly, it’s fucking weird and blatant self-interest like so much else from this president.  No one is going to sue or attack him successfully over this.  It’s just more besides the point distraction from the issue.

Trump cannot and should not change his stripes now...he must continue to attack his foes relentlessly and without apology to keep his base strong and win over more of the undecided and independent voters in key states.

Team Trump has a much better digital footprint, more money, and the advantages of incumbency.

President Trump will win or lose by being the only thing he knows how to be...TRUMP !

Not so fast....it is not completely without precedent.    Recall 1992 Somalia briefings (CNN had compromised Marine and SEAL Team landings), and the famous Iraq War sales job by Bush #43.

Hell, FDR controlled the media concerning his polio under threat of arrest.

Don't pretend that Trump is the first to manipulate the media for self interest.

Facts are facts, and I never said that I was buying your propaganda.

I laid out how the virus was handled in both countries. You didn't challenge any of the actual facts I posted.

You just keep on insisting that on March 16th, when Trudeau FINALLY TOOK HIS FIRST STEPS TOWARDS CONTAINING THE SPREAD OF THE VIRUS, that somehow he did so much on that day that it made up for all the lost time that he had to make up on the US, who had blocked travellers from covid hotspots and had actual screening in place at the airports.

That's impossible, because social distancing guidelines in the states on March 19th are exactly what they were here. Trudeau wasn't ahead of the US in any way, at any time.

Trudeau lagged way behind, for 45 days in fact, and we got lucky because our population is 1/10th the size of the US and our country is larger. We also don't have a Mardi Gras, we didn't have a Superbowl during Covid, and we don't have a subway system that moves the population of BC every single day.

Not only are you completely sucked in by propaganda, you spread it yourself like a sweaty Reverend spewing hellfire and damnation. You completely refuse to consider what actually happened, or try to understand it, you're desperately clinging to "but CBC and CNN said!!!!" Yeah, they said Trudeau did so much on March 16th that it made up for everything that he failed to do prior BUT THEY NEVER GAVE EXAMPLES OF IT. NEITHER DID YOU. THEY DON'T EXIST. Grab a fact somewhere, and try to prove something. Name-calling only works in your little circle. It doesn't prove anything here.

Who are you addressing?  You refer to CNN and things people have cited and ascribe them to me.  Trump’s historical communications are out there for all to see.  The federal communications from both countries from early and mid-March are there for all to see and so are the results.  Only a brainless git would take a  selected communications PowerPoint from a self-promoting politician as truth.  Get real.  It doesn’t matter.  You guys are easy money.  One born every minute...

Johns Hopkins had the nerve to post some objective facts:

Deaths

COVID-19: Approximately 120,450 deaths reported worldwide; 23,649 deaths in the U.S., as of Apr. 14, 2020.*

Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide; 12,000 to 61,000 deaths in the U.S. per year.

====================================================================================

Here's the kicker....we already have a vaccine for influenza, but the numbers are still very high.

Yeah, but the COVID data is for a month or two, and doesn't address the question as to what the numbers would be if we had simply treated the current outbreak as we normally do the flu.

Did Johns Hopkins make any predictions?

There are other considerations as well, like COVID morbidity displacing some for influenza.

JH did not make any predictions, but lacking any other virus baseline, influenza remains the annual benchmark and that is with an existing vaccine.

COVID may have been in the general population as early as December...and it will mutate like any virus.

The rush for ventilators is being second guessed based on actual ICU outcomes.      Many do not recover after intubated.

But we have treatments for flu and generally the people who die from it have quite fragile health. Typical flues don’t attack the respiratory tract so quickly or harshly, and not at this rate of spread, so the death rate is heightened.  Imagine where we’d be without the public health measures.

Former CNN pundit: The network is officially 'Leftist State Media' after Trump chyron coverage

flood_update.jpg?ve=1&tl=1

By Brian Flood

Jenna Ellis, Trump 2020 senior legal adviser, says the campaign was left with no choice but to file lawsuits to fight 'false and defamatory statements' by the press. CNN’s coverage of Monday’s White House coronavirus press briefing put a harsh spotlight on the network's line-blurring between journalism and agenda-driven opinion, media experts tell Fox News, and even has some wondering if the liberal network has abandoned objective coverage of the president altogether.

CNN cut away from Trump’s task force briefing on Monday when the White House aired a brief video designed to combat recent reports that the response to coronavirus didn’t happen quickly enough. CNN host John King quickly called it “propaganda,” which became the phrase du jour for the network during a series of events that one former network employee said proved it has officially become “Leftist State Media.”

Once CNN decided to return to the briefing, the network’s on-screen chyrons began editorializing with snarky comments that were praised by the far left but frowned upon by journalism professors, conservative media watchdogs and ex-CNN employees.

Various CNN pundits went on to refer to the video as “propaganda” for the remainder of the evening and into Tuesday morning, while the network enlisted what it considers straight-news reporters to chime in. Brian Stelter called it “nothing short of disgraceful,” Jim Acosta accused Trump of having a “total meltdown” and Don Lemon said Trump’s briefing was “the height of narcissism.”

CNN's “argumentative chyrons demonstrate that news and opinion have completely merged" at the network, according to Cornell Law School professor William A. Jacobson. (AP Photo/Alex Brandon)

CNN’s graphics department aired chyrons that stated, “Angry Trump turns briefing into propaganda session,” "Trump uses task force briefing to try and rewrite history on coronavirus response,” "Trump melts down in angry response to reports he ignored virus warnings” and “Angry Trump uses propaganda video, produced by government employees at taxpayers’ expense.”...

Actually there is no  uniform treatment of flus any more than there is for covid.  Vaccines we have are only for a few strains. Typical flus as you call them and most accurately any viruses can allow opportunistic infections in bacterial, fungi and parasitical forms to piggy back into a body and sicken/or kill its host body  including attacking the respiratory tract  system quickly and harshly. In addition the fact so many people with covid have remained symptom free with this virus or with mild symptoms plus its  high recovery rates do not indicate it as deadly as some may feel.

The belief it is more deadly has resulted from a combination of negative myopic press coverage  and our lockdown which both contribute to an over amplification of deaths from covid making these deaths seem larger then they actually are . This is known as the psychological phenomena of proximity distortion. Things closer to us seem much larger and vice versa things more remote seem smaller and thosectyst can not be seen we may not even acknowledge. We see covid deaths right now. It is literally in our face but the fact is everyday people continue to die from other viruses and diseases other than covid.  We just do not see those deaths. In  fact the no. 1 killer medically each day is diaheria.

There is no data at this time to accurately compare death rates between covid and other viruses or diseases.

Yes its serious, contagious, a killer but had we put proper protocols in place after the Sars out-break we may not have required the lockdown and the concern for this virus would not be as it is now.

We only get concerned with death when it literally is at our door.

That said without public safety measures for all diseases we would be dead.

I don’t have to cite general knowledge.  Get your head out of the sand.

As per usual Trump will distract from his own mismanagement by blaming others, this time the WHO, which he says the US will defund.  What an irresponsible fool.  So blatant.  Why won’t the Americans demand better government?  China only benefits.  Ridiculous.   No doubt his sycophants will sign off for fear of reprisal.

Defunding the WHO is probably the stupidest public health measure to date.  Shut down international data collection and health measures so that...The lunatics are running the asylum.
