Will it be the virus that takes Trump down?

Even Canadians want more than what Canadian media offers.

How would you know that how? People look to US media for a different perspective.

There are more foreign born Americans than the entire population of Canada.

That's relevant how exactly?

How ?   Numeris ratings, Netflix, HBO, etc.

More Americans have far more knowledge of the world than Canada's entire population = relevant

Citing the US Dispora doesn't prove that.

First you claim the US doesn't care about Canada, then claim the fact that more Americans live abroad than live in Canada that it's evidence that Americans are more worldly

Pick a lane.

Nice try...obviously if almost 50,000,000 Americans were born and lived part of their lives abroad they have more knowledge and experience with other nations.

That's a non-sequitor. You could say the same of the Canadian Diaspora. But because it's smaller group it means that one group is more worldly than the other?

BTW complete Thread drift from Canadians watching, with interest, as their largest trading partner struggling with this Outbreak.

Yes...the U.S. outnumbers Canadians, many of whom have never been abroad as well.

Canada's group is smaller by far, so my original contention stands.

I'm sure all the dead Canadians families find some comfort in that as they continue to consume so much American media, just as they always have (hence Fauci's recognition in a foreign country).

So would watching the BBC also be considered an obsession as you note?

U.S. messaging started long before that at the state level.   U.S. governors have the most impact and jurisdiction for each state, no matter what Trump says.

The U.S. Surgeon General began PSAs for COVID19 at least by March 12, and maybe sooner, so you are mistaken about that.

Too weak.  Staying home if you’re sick is a very weak message.  It needed to go much further.

BC you’re not going to win on the education front. Leave that out.  Not even worth the energy of starting that debate.

The US Covid task force had briefings every day, usually for an hour or more, and gave all the proper advice for social distancing and hygiene. The Canadian government DID NOT DO more than the US gov't in that regard. Your concrete example wasn't backed with links, or facts, just your own opinion, and your opinion was just wrong.

You’re such a blind Trump follower.  It’s that kind of blindness that is leading Americans off a cliff.  It doesn’t matter.  I stopped taking US federal politics seriously after the Supreme Court gave the presidency to Bush over Gore.  The world could have been quite different if the will of the people was respected, but that’s another story...

Stop depending so much on what happens in the United States...then or now.

Okay, but also recognize the softness of the S.G.’s message.  Was it really going to contain the virus nationwide or even within that particular state?

The S.G. was making that same pitch in many states, and hygiene behaviors were directed just as they are now.   Only governors had stay-at-home power, and mayors to close businesses, not the S.G.

Dr. Tam was still telling Canadians that the risk was low.

American governance does indeed impact the world and we should all be concerned, but do you see how it impacts Americans more than anyone else, especially right now?

The U.S. is only one of several large nations in the world....do you fret over China and India and Indonesia and Nigeria as closely ?

Of course it impacts Americans...they live in America !

You have consistently placed your fate into the hands of a foreign country and culture...why ?

In January and early February yes.  In March no.  Since mid-March the national campaign has been intense.  All I’m arguing is that the US needed to go harder sooner with its public health policy and campaigns.  You are correct that some states took the bull by the horns and acted quite quickly and effectively.

You already know the answers.  It’s geopolitical hegemony: control of major ports, military dominance, and economic power.  US policy shapes the world, which is why getting it right is important.  China is making inroads, those other powers you mentioned to a lesser extent.  Why do you comment on Canadian policy?   We comment where we think it necessary to do so.

Canada was still preaching "low risk" at least as late as March 7...and had fewer travel bans.

There will be plenty of time to unwrap lessons learned, but the U.S. did what many other western nations did as well.

Canadians knew who Dr. Fauci was in March.

We were not discussing education....you just brought it up.

We also weren't talking about Diaspora, but here we are.

The title of this thread is clear.

Bitching about Canadian's obsession with the US doesn't change the debate topic.

Why do I ?....because after 9/11 I discovered Canada's obsession with the United States as many different levels....most Americans have no idea how much Canada presses its nose to the one-way mirror to watch America so intently.   Creepy !

So I just return the favour.

The tread is about Trump losing the election over COVID19...why would Canada care 'bout that !!!
